Avon is one of the better known companies in the direct selling industry. To start up your own independent business with them, you initially pay a small fee of $10 and receive a few of the product booklets in which you hand out to family, friends, and neighbors.

One of the most time consuming things about this opportunity is the handing out of booklets. The time required to drop booklets off at peoples' homes is astounding. Not to mention if you drive around to family's homes. Also, a new campaign of booklets comes out every two weeks and that is how often you are required to deliver them.

From there you have two options; You can either wait for the phone to ring, or spend additional time calling everyone who has a booklet and asking if they have an order to put in.

Then, once the orders are in, the items are delivered to your house and you are then required to sort them into individual orders and deliver them to the customers and colleect payment. If they are not home, you must try again and again to contact them, thus using up time that could be spent building up your business in other ways.

Once everything is delivered and payments are collected, you make a minimum of 20% commission on the sales.

For some people with good sales skills and who have the time to put in, this would be a good business. I have personally tried it and have found that, for me, it took too much time and mileage for the minimal paychecks I received.
