Being a Work at Home Agent - The Basics
The Common Work at Home Agent Being a work at home agent is not as rare as you might think. As a work at home agent myself, I can tell you that it is very possible to earn money with legitimate work from home careers. Separating Work at Home Fact from Fiction Yes, there are still many, many scams our there that are telling you that they can offer legitimate work. So how is a work at home agent to find truly legitimate work in this crazy world? The real work at home companies are looking to hire you as an employee, independent contractor, or freelancer. There should be some kind of contract that is mutually beneficial, such as they guarantee you the pay, and you guarantee them the hours. And of course we have all heard that you should never pay for work, however there is one caveat to this. Business opportunities (e.g. direct sales, MLM, or franchise) usually require some type of start up fee. Before you pay the fee be sure to do your research. Separating Work from Home There are two sides to this coin. On the one hand you have the possibility of becoming a workaholic. Your work is suddenly omnipresent and you think to yourself 'if I could squeeze in one more email, or just finish that spreadsheet.' And on the other side of that you have the tendency to get distracted by things that are going on at home. You suddenly remember that you forgot to start that load of laundry, or there is an interesting guest on Live with Regis and Kelly (please, if this is you invest in a DVR!). The best thing that you can do for this situation is to section off an area of your home to call your office, some work at home companies require it and it is a nice tax deduction! The next step is to set your office hours and adhere to them. This is a nice solution if you have a family to contend with (in the most loving way of course!) or you have trouble motivating yourself. The Risks and Rewards of the Work at Home Agent Like any other job, being a work at home agent has pros and cons. If you do not have the ability to self motivate or you are easily distracted by your surroundings, then working from home is probably not for you. But if you have the internal motivation to succeed, then working from home may be the perfect fit for you.Jen is a work at home agent in her own right.
