As a distributor or consultant in your direct sales / MLM company, one of the things you're most likely taught by your sponsor or upline is to make a list of friends and family to talk to about your new opportunity. This list is intended to be your first step in presenting your business opportunity and products to prospective customers or business partners. While you may make a few sales at first by using this tactic, it is ultimately of limited to no benefit to your long-term goals of success.
Many of your family and friends probably won't be as excited as you are about your opportunity and likely have no interest in hearing about it. Because they are your friends and family, however, they may feel an uncomfortable obligation to buy your products and/or listen to your pitch, whether they want to or not. Pretty soon, though, you may begin to notice friends and family running the other way when they see you coming (or even avoid you altogether) in order to prevent any awkwardness. This can obviously put varying degrees of strain on your relationships down the line. Would you really want to jeopardize these relationships for the sake of making a couple of dollars?
Instead, casually let them know about your business and your products but avoid hounding them. If they're interested, they'll ask you about it. There are far superior ways to build your business without using "the list."
Focus your time and energy on learning how to attract those who actually want and are seeking out what you have to offer.
Learn how to use attraction marketing strategies that actually work. There are many free training courses you can find online to help get you started. Learning attraction marketing and teaching your downline to do the same will result in a strong team and a solid, growing business with an excellent marketing strategy. This is something your list of friends and family could never accomplish for your business. You can do it. You just have to learn how and take action.
