Don't Start a Home Business - You Will Fail!

OK, so you made up your mind. You are going to start a home business. You do some research and find what you believe to be the latest big thing on the internet. Now you're set! You purchase your system, go through the training, set up your website, and presto! You sit back and wit got the money to start rolling in. But, days go by and nothing happens. Then, one week turn in to two. Before you know it all the money you had for your business start up is gone, you are deeper into debt, and you add yet another failed attempt at making your dreams come true to a long list of disappointments. But why does this happen? Is there hope? Should you simply heed the warning: "Don't start a home business... You WILL fail!"?

Well, the answer to that question will depend on a number of factors. Some people will never make it as entrepreneurs. Others seem to have been born to make it big. Still others fail a number of times before finally getting ahead. Let's take some time to look at some of the elements which might make the difference between these three groups. Reviewing this list might help you set up a game plan so you won't fail in your next attempt.

Entitlement Mentality -- The first big mistakes people make when starting a home business is believing that they are entitled success and a better lifestyle. The truth is nobody owes you anything. Your results will depend on your efforts and dedication. Yes, as we will see, there are some other elements that contribute to your success, or lack there of, but over all, stop blaming the world for your failures. There isn't a conspiracy against you. Own up to your mistakes, learn from them, and move on. Until you can accept this, you will not reach the level of success you desire.

Fail to Plan and Plan to Fail -- If you start a brick-and-mortar business, your first step is writing a business plan, particularly if you will be requesting financing for your venture. What is it that makes you think that a home business can be any different? Sit down and write a well-thought out business plan, one that you can use as a blue print for where you want to take your business. Keep in mind that even the best laid-out plans will need to be reviewed and modified. But, having no plan at all is entrepreneurial suicide. So, have a clear and measurable vision of where you plan to take your business.

Find a System and Follow It --Put in slightly different terms, don't reinvent the wheel. Innovation is important. In fact, you will NOT be successful if you cannot set yourself apart from the pack. But, there are certain elements to any business that have taken others years of hard work and tons of money to perfect. Take advantage of that. Find mentors in your niche, and follow their system. This will cut your learning curve, and maximize your return.

Establish a Daily Method of Operation -- Lack of focus is the number one killer of any business venture. Robert Kiyosaki defines FOCUS using the acronym "Follow One Course Until Successful". Nobody waves a magic wand and automatically finds success. But, jumping around from one idea to the next, without giving yourself time to really learn and perfect it. So, follow Mr. Kiyosaki's advice and stay focused. To help you do so, and manage your time more effectively, establish a daily routine for your business and follow it until it becomes second nature. Then, add new elements as necessary.

Make Your Goals Bite-sized --How do you eat an elephant? We all know the answer: one bite at a time! It's an old adage, but it is very applicable to long-term, highly significant goals. It can be very intimidating, and almost self-defeating, to sit at your desk thinking, I have to earn $25,000 to pay off my debt. Pretty soon, a feeling of being overwhelmed, and just thinking that it is impossible, will break you. Then, you give up on your goal convinced it was a fool's dream. If, on the other hand, you sit down and figure out how to set smaller, more attainable goals leading to the same end result, you will be much more likely to make it in the end. So, focus on specific daily tasks, instead of the huge long-term end result.

See It and Believe It! -- Visualize what you want your life to be like. See the way you dress, the way you act, the way you carry yourself. Then, become that person. Most people fail because they are waiting to have the money, so they can do what needs to be done, to then be the person they know they can be. That order is reversed, though. The timing will never be perfect. Things will never be just right. So, you need to BE first, then Do what needs to be done, and as a result you will HAVE. See the end result every day, and believe it! It is yours!

So, what do you think? Will your next venture be a success or a failure? Whichever answer you gave, you are right! You CAN succeed. All it takes is the right mindset and the right training. The rest is just work, and you know how to do that, right?
