I was sitting in the office of the cable publication for which I have been working a few years before when a friend clicked his mouse and said he just made $15.
I thought perhaps he was doing some form of online gambling or had just completed a restaurant survey and had acquired a $15 dollar gift certificate, but what he had in fact done was sell a $5 coffee mug for $20. He explained to me exactly what he had done and told me that he would eventually be establishing a home based business enterprise of his very own.
Basically, he went to an local area dollar store and bought twenty mugs which bore the logo of our own local hockey squad, which had recently claimed the Stanley Cup. Discovering that there will be lots of bandwagon jumpers and that our sports team was not a major-market program, he put the mugs on eBay for $20 each in order to see how they would do, as he said.
By the time he told me he had just earned $15 that day at the office, he had actually ended up selling nineteen of them, earning a total income of $275 with just one mug to go. The next measure, he said, was running a work at home business, and he had a number of strategies for other items to sell that he believed will be just as successful as the mugs.
Now, nothing attracted me more than the thought of being seated at my desktop computer and doing work from there all day long. Starting out a home based business enterprise would be a superb thing for me personally, but the predicament was, my thoughts did not work the way in which my friend's did.
Each time that I thought of something that might sell well, I could never find it at a value which will allow for a fair mark-up or it just didn't draw any kind of attention from potential customers. I started to brainstorm other possible alternatives.
I tried taking his approach and hit the local dollar shops for merchandise which may entice a large online audience that will also be difficult to find beyond my local community, but nothing jumped out at me, and eventually I gave up.
Suddenly, starting out a home-based enterprise seemed a lot more like wishful thinking than a possible means of financial freedom, but I am not prepared to give up yet.
It's going to probably take more preparation on my part or some kind of spontaneous drive. I have always been more of the creative type, and in many ways, I simply don't believe in advertising terms.
Starting a work at home business enterprise is still my greatest dream; I am going to just have to find my own niche before that could happen. [
