When you outsource projects, you are hiring out jobs. You may not know how to do the job. Perhaps you know, but know your skills are not what they need to be. It could be that you hire the job out because you know your time would be better spent elsewhere. In any of these cases you are better able to grow your business because you are handling things with higher priorities.

What is friend-sourcing?

This is very similar to outsourcing, other than the actual hiring out of jobs. There are several ways you can friend-source. Some are so very common we do not think anything of it.

Common Friend-Sourcing

Very common thing we do is ask friends their opinions. We ask about movies and ask about restaurants. Now we can do that on social media such as Facebook and Twitter. The advantage of instead of asking "have you been" followed by "was it any good" is shortened to "what do you think of..." and people with opinions will post them.

But this can be used for business as well. You can ask those same questions as related to your projects and work. You can ask friends to fill out short surveys. Some people will be very happy to add their opinions. Depending on how many people are following you or your business you can get a good range of opinions and ideas. This friend source provides valuable feedback.

Not so Common Friend-Sourcing

The other way to friend-source is something that was common years ago, bartering. You outsource a task you are not good at with a friend who is good at that task. Then they outsource a task to you. This mutual trade of tasks can really help your business grow, because you optimize your skills and use others skills where you are weak.

Advantages of Friend Sourcing

Outsourcing projects benefits your business. By friend-sourcing you are utilizing the people who are close to you. Often the people on Twitter or Facebook have a connection to you or your business, this means typically that they care. Also in the friend-sourcing of tasks, people tend to want to help friends and will work harder for your success.
