Home Based Business - Why Your Customers Are No Different Than Mine So Stop Fussin' and Move On

It was a balmy Friday morning in April on delightful Miami Beach. The hotel Fountainbleau ballroom #3 was packed wall to wall with salespeople wanting to learn from one of the greatest sales trainers in our industry on this, our third and last day of a three day seminar.

As hundreds of salespeople were drinking their morning cup of Joe, chatting amongst themselves and generally having a good time, the seminar trainer approached the stage virtually unnoticed. He stood there for one full minute, by my estimate, before he said in a loud commanding voice, "Listen up. I have an important announcement."

Some people thought that the speaker would be announcing the winners of door prizes being offered. Others thought that maybe he would announce that because it was Friday our session would be let out early today. It's hard to believe but, everyone in ballroom #3 was dead wrong.

Even though there were hundreds of people in the room, after the command to "Listen Up" was given with such great authority from the speaker on the stage, it was so quiet that you could almost hear the thoughts of the person seated next to you. Cemeteries at midnight were noisier than this Fountainebleau ballroom #3 on that fateful April morning.

In a powerful voice greater than before, the sales trainer barked at the audience, "This is my last seminar in Miami because you lazy people don't deserve my time and attention!" All of a sudden there was total pandemonium in ballroom #3.

The speaker continued, "Only a handful of people have done the assignments I gave all of you. That in itself makes me want to forget about Miami and teach my seminar in some other part of the country." The audience exploded yelling, "Mike, this can't be true, we need you". The speaker persisted with his criticism, "You know what really aggravates me about you salespeople here in Miami? You don't listen."

Four people had approached the speaker this morning before he took the stage. They all had the same ridiculous comment, "But Mike, our market is different, our customers are different. Your system just won't work here". Those remarks were echoed by many in the audience for the past two days. And those same comments were what ignited the fireworks from the podium this morning. In an effort to save time, let me get to the bottom line for you on why the seminar trainer was so upset------

It doesn't matter if you are selling your home based business product or service to mom and pop at the kitchen table in Iowa or you are selling to the CEO of a multi-national corporation in his office in New York. People are people and the process is the same for both. People always buy "stuff" with their "Feelings". That's why all customers everywhere are basically the same because everyone's "Feelings" are basically the same.

There is no question that if you still believe your customers are different than mine, stop whining and move on-----because they aren't. Go out and create the home based business success that will make your dreams come true. You can do it.
