Cyber bullying is a kind of harassment made online and targets kids and teenagers but it can happen to adults also. It is called as such because it involves the use of cyber space to intimidate and harass. This includes stalking and identity theft which is considered a global threat. It can happen with the use of cellular and handheld devices such as computer and cellular phones and even games like the use of play station and Nintendo machines. Because there is easy access to online games and social media sites like Facebook and Twitter; the kids are vulnerable to them especially with chat and webcam applications. The sad news is that, this is not controlled by the state regulations.
Cyber bully can attack not only through the Internet access from computers but also through a cell phone. He uses the websites and emails and attacks the victim through slander which is negative to the person as well as degrading his personality. In the process, this is made public which many people have access to reading and will therefore become more humiliating to the one who is bullied. This is often the case that is happening to teenagers and high school kids which creates an awkward situation between them and all those who are involved. Not only is there physical bullying inside the classroom but also in the use of advanced technology. When the bullied person cannot resolve the situation anymore and threat is forthcoming; the usual tendency of the person is to commit suicide.
Because kids are nave and their emotional maturity is still undeveloped, they cannot defend themselves from the humiliation that results from bullying. That is why some are shunned into silence or suffer the consequences on their own, creating an unhealthy social behavior. Sometimes the effects can be tragic as what has been observed with recent suicidal deaths of victims of cyber bullying. Today, parents and guardians are now aware of this environment and they consider themselves responsible for the safety of their kids. Most parents are now careful in allowing their kids the use of the Internet and make sure they have open communication as often as possible to spot critical issues between them. They should take steps in ensuring that cyber attacks must be reported to the proper authorities. They should enlist the help of computer technicians to install firewalls in their desktops and laptops to prevent and block incoming malicious harassment through the Web.
