Inkjet Versus Laser - What Is The Right Printer For Your New Home Office?

A computer is not the only consideration to take into account when planning your new home office endeavour. At some time or another you will need to print off documents which means you are going to need a printer. You may even need to scan images onto your computer or take photocopies of important documents. You don't necessarily need a different piece of hardware to do each job as there are plenty of multi-function printers out there that to a fantastic job. If you are setting up a home office then this can be much more cost effective way of running your business.

The majority of multi-function printers out there can print, scan and copy but not all can send faxes. But to be fair you may not need them as any modern PC or Mac will come with a modem to send and receive a fax. Using a computer fax though does mean you will need to scan the image onto your computer first then send, whereby a traditional printer allows you to just put the document in and send. It can also receive faxes whereby a computer equivalent cannot.

If you are thinking about purchasing a multi-function printer then there are several points to consider - the main one being whether you go for inkjet or laser. With the cheaper alternative the inkjet you have tiny nozzles which spray the paper with extremely small drops of ink. The laser printer uses static electricity and heated rollers to place black or coloured ink to the paper. If you are printing in large volumes then laser printers are always best, but the cheaper inkjet alternative is much better suited to printing photographs.

What you really need to take into consideration when buying any kind of printer is the cartridges. It is like buying a razor, it is not necessarily the razor which is expensive it is the replacement blades. It is exactly the same with a printer. The cheaper the printer you buy the more likely that it will not be economical in the long run. With toner especially, these can run into hundreds of dollars for replacements. What is it that your business is most likely to use? If you are going to be printing out hundreds of invoices per day for example then a laser printer is probably a better option. But if you are using a printer to print high resolution photographs for clients, then an inkjet would be better suited for this purpose.
