It all started on July 11, 1969 when Harland Stonecipher was involved in a head-on collision that would tally up massive legal fees. He was covered through his auto insurance and medical insurance, but he wasn't prepared for the LEGAL fees that would accumulate from that fateful day. Because of this situation, he researched and founded Prepaid Legal in its early form in August of 1972. Since then, the company has changed and grown in many ways. So is this company worth its weight?
Before we go too far, I want to just add a small disclaimer that I am not affiliated in any way to Prepaid Legal and I do not sell this service or collect any compensation from this company. I will just be giving a 3rd party review on the pros and cons I have found through my own research.
So let me start with exactly who or what Prepaid Legal Service is. This company was one of the first companies in the nation to design, underwrite and market legal expense plans. These plans referred to as memberships, cover a vast area of legal services from identity theft protection, legal referral services at discounted rates to drawing up a will. The membership fee varies for service from $1 to over $300/month depending on the type of coverage you are looking for.
So why is this company so great? For one, it is a unique service in the network marketing arena. While most network marketing companies are about a product, Prepaid Legal is about service and a unique niche service that isn't flooding the market. Looking at other companies, if you were looking at a way to stay healthy, you have a VERY flooded market of over 4,000 nutrition MLM's out there! Working as a network marketer, having a unique company can be very important to how successful you will be with that company. If you are in a flooded market, you need to work extra hard to make yourself stand out from the crowd.
The only "con" I could really find was in the tough economic times, people tend to get rid of what they don't actively need like extra insurances. This could cause issues with attrition rates, so that is something to take a look at if you are looking at this as a business opportunity.
Lastly, if you are thinking Prepaid Legal Service is something you want to pursue further, the investment and compensation was something else to consider. The investment to be a Prepaid Legal associate is very low- $49 to be exact. To run a traditional business, you may need upwards around $250K to get things off the ground. So the price is definitely right if you don't have a lot to invest. On the flip side, some may not take the investment seriously as it is so low. I mean it is the price you would pay for a night out of the town.
All in all, Prepaid Legal Service does have some positive attributes and may help those who can't afford a traditional business become very successful. However, before getting involved with Prepaid Legal Service, it is important to do your own research and know what you are looking for out of a company. Having the right tools to market your company and yourself are as important, if not more important, than the company you decide to partner with. Making sure to take everything into consideration beforehand will surely lead to a successful outcome. [
