Before you take the plunge and decide to work from home you need to ask yourself a very important question; is it the right move for you? Working from will not suit everybody. So you really need to think long and hard as to whether it will work for you. One of the biggest challenges when working from home is the issue of isolation. Some people prefer to work on their own as they feel they can get more work done, while others may get bored easily and turn to welcome distractions throughout their working day.
Although you still may be in touch with your colleagues in your business and occasionally have to visit the office, it is not the same as getting up everyday and taking the daily commute to work, so if the social side of work is what keeps you going and helps you stay motivated then working from home may not be for you.
With no boss breathing down your neck you could lose focus, you are free to sue your time as you see fit, so you have to be a well disciplined individual. If you have family and friends round and you are meant to be working then you need to be very resilient. Time management is vital to your success; if you are not planning your time effectively then you are potentially losing yourself and your business money. If you are not hitting targets or are never around when your boss rings then you may find that your working from home career will be cut short.
It is all about the right balance, after all working from home is totally flexible. There are no firm rules, so if you are an early bird and prefer to start work at seven am and finish at three pm, there is nothing to stop you doing that, which then allows you to enjoy the rest of the day and pick the kids up from school.
If you work in a conventional office then you may realise that a lot of the tasks that you do throughout the day can become a drain on your time. How much of you day is taken up by answering other peoples phone calls and waiting for someone ton finish with the printer and being dragged into meetings. With working from home you have none of those distractions; it is just you, your computer and your work. Just make sure you use your time wisely.
