Tips For Working From Home
More and more people are starting their own businesses from home. Starting your own business is fun, exciting and rewarding but at the same time as being terrifying and exhausting.
Your new business will take most of your time and energy in a way that no job controlled by someone else ever could. You need to keep focused on what you are trying to achieve and how you go about doing that.
Thousands of businesses are started from spare bedrooms every year, which is very smart. Keeping overheads low is a key component of ensuring the success of a new venture.
Many people find it is quite hard to stay disciplined and focused and often feel isolated when working from home.
Here some tips I have put together to help you build a successful business from home.
1. Make a plan...no business can run without a plan. Set your goals for the day and week and be sure to achieve the weekly goals by the end of the week.
2. Being your own boss and knowing that nothing will work until you make it happen SHOULD keep you well motivated enough, knowing that if you don't do it. No one else will.
3. You can start to develop a kind of "cabin fever", because you are seeing the same four walls. Get out and get some fresh air. It is essential that you get out for a walk or other exercise every day. Without the normal routine of a traditional working environment, it is easy to work way into the night, and even skip meals.
4.Keep it varied Sometimes working at the same spot each day can become tedious. Why not venture out to your nearest internet cafe once a week for a few hours. A lot of places have wifi now so have a look around.
5. Work Space - Make sure you have a clearly defined space to work in. Ensure it is clutter free, and if you are working from a bedroom, try to separate the sleeping and work areas.
6. Don't just take the day off if there are things to be done just because the sun is shining. Do the work first then enjoy the sunshine! Remember don't lose focus.
7. Don't get me wrong, it's essential to have time off. But you need to plan that time and work your business around it. Be in control of it. Taking a day off just because it is sunny is fine as long as you have made sure all that needs to be done is done!! If you don't do it, No one else will.
8. Try and keep work and home strictly separate, any business needs space even if it's just a desk and a computer. If you have a spare room that can be dedicated to your business, be very strict about using that room only for work.
9. Make a set rules and stick to them. The worst thing you could ever do working at home is switch on the TV for a bit of background noise. Jeremy Kyle is not going to help your business and will distract you
10. Set clear working hours so you know what you should be doing and when. For people going from a job to running their own business, sticking to the same habits of working weekdays and having weekends off can be sensible.
11. Now and again give yourself a reward for achieving something difficult. It can be as simple as getting a pizza in, or having an evening out. Either way when you achieve your goal, enjoy your reward and look forward to doing it again!
12. Connect with like-minded people. You know, One of the hardest things about working from home is the loss of contact with other people. But there are lots of people now starting their own businesses from home. So your not alone, its a great way to talk through many issues too.
I wish you every success with your business in the future.
