Today I created a "meetup" group for a number of local newbies that were interested in creating an online presence for themselves. It seems that everyone is talking about how to make a few extra bucks these days. The economy hasn't been good for quite some time now and it doesn't show many signs of improving anytime soon.
That said, you have only to look at the statistics for numbers of millionaires created in the past ten years to see that the trend is white hot. For those slugging it out in the trenches - those in bricks and mortar businesses, it has to be tough going. One thing I have noticed as a computer analyst with 35 years experience is the most people don't like change. I find this fact so disturbing because the one thing that is constant is that there will be change. I love change. Ask my wife! I never put something back in the same place twice!
The fact of the matter is that people are changing the way they purchase. Every year more and more people are buying online. Ask the newspapers how sales are going? Ask the radio stations how their revenue streams are? You are going to find the newspapers are in dire straights. You'll find the radio markets in tremendous turmoil as they all fight for the little bits of market left. Think about it! Who reads the newspapers anymore? They are destroying forests and polluting the planet to put ink on a piece of paper that brings me the news that I already read 18 hours ago on InstaPundit or PJTV! What's with that?
Look what happened when a small band on pseudo-intellectuals got together to dream up a scheme to transfer western wealth to third world countries under the direction of a "New World Order"! Global Warming was the moniker they tagged this massive malfeasance with in an effort to brainwash you all into believing that humans could actually affect global CO2 levels! Ten years ago, they would have gotten away with it. Of course, the mainstream media all fell for it because unlike you and me, they are incapable of change. It was only the new age mavens of the Internet that saved our collective bacon on this one.
But I digress. The point is that things change. Markets change. It is not that the economy is that bad, it is just that some people don't benefit from it in the same way they used to. What I'm going to teach in our weekly "meetup" group is how to spot the trends and harness the power of change to put real change, and probably bills, into my client's pockets. It is not difficult driving if you know the road. I find the power of mastermind groups like this to be refreshing and stimulating.
When two people exchange a dollar, each walks away with a dollar. But when 10 people exchange an idea, 10 people walk away with 100 ideas. This is the way of the new economy. The sooner you accept it and endorse it, the sooner you will be better for it.
