Have you every made a bad decision that impacted on your life? I think most of us can answer yes to that question. A more important question: Did you learn from that bad decision? I was inspired to write this article after my husband had a brief encounter with the Justice Department recently.
He had (apparently) received a parking ticket several months back but it transpired the City Council had sent it to the wrong address. He never received it and with the expired date for payment passed the Council passed it to the Justic Department for collection.
The Justice Department called him with a final demand plus court costs and now the $12.00 parking fee had accumulated to just under $50.00. But the purpose of this article is to relate what he experienced when he had to physically front up at the Justice Department to sort it out.
What struck him at the local court was sadness. Groups of young people gathered outside waiting for their trial, trying to impress each other with their bravado and their couldn't care less attitude, whilst inside the courts other young (and not so young) people were sitting around quietly contemplating their future - one presumes with fear, resignation and hopelessness.
Were they thinking "this is as good as it gets" or "this is just how life is" or "why does this keep happening to me when it's not my fault"?
The thing is - we all make mistakes, as humans it is how we learn. The difference between living a life of happiness and honour compared to a life of misery and crime is that some of us just don't learn from our mistakes and keep repeating them over and over.
If we can learn from the mistakes we make on our journey through life we can keep correcting, contemplating and aiming for a better future for ourselves and our families. As human beings, we do have choices. We do have the ability to break out of uncomfortable situations. As online entrepreneurs we continually have to find the courage to break out of our comfort zones to leave the safety of our lives and dare to do something different in order to be someone better.
A lot of people think being an online entrepreneur is a scam, this is because they don't understand how the industry works and because of that, they are fearful. Fear leads to mistrust and negativity and it is fear that keeps us exactly where we think we are safe (even if we are not happy). It robs us of the courage we need to break free and become a better person.
You certainly need to have a healthy skepticism and be cautious (as there are a lot of rogues on the internet flogging their scams) BUT, there are times during our lives where we have to find a new direction, leave the old ways behind and make a conscious decision to have a new, different and better life.
