There are two types of promotional methods. Paid traffic and free traffic. There are more methods that branch out of these two but I will keep it simple for now. In paid traffic there is a promotional method called PPC (pay per click). A lot of people know about this but they do not know how to use it correctly. This is where you can lose a lot of money. You can promote via PPC almost anywhere; Facebook, Yahoo, MySpace, Microsoft, Google and it is relatively easy to set up an ad. The problem is having people click on your ad and buying your product. One key thing that can help you with this is truth. People are looking for the truth. If you put something on your ad that is not related or is not true about your product or service then obviously you just lost a customer and you just wasted money on a click. You need to find what customers are looking for or find customers who are looking for a product/service like yours and give it to them. Lying and trying to trick them into buying is not going to work and you will just earn a bad reputation for your business. Now regarding free methods, these are simple and are pretty straight forward. You can promote your business via article marketing, business cards or you can even make a fan page on Facebook and get your traffic from there. Sometimes you just need to get a little bit creative and have a little bit of sneaky thinking and you can get your business going in no time.

In conclusion, making or promoting your home-based business can be tough and difficult. But remember, having the right mind-set and telling your customers the complete truth about your product/service does not only increases your reputation, but it also increases your sales. One thing I forgot to mention was keywords. Whether using paid or free methods, keywords are very important also. This is basically how you target you customers. If there is an option of choosing keywords when you are promoting your business, you need to be careful and choose your keywords wisely. Put yourself in the customers shoes. What would you type in Google search?
