Not Productive Enough - Need Help?

Productivity is the Achille's Heel of any work at home marketer. Just try and be nearly as productive in your living room as you would be in an office. Well, maybe some of us would do alright, but I know I had a hard time convincing myself to throw all the energy I had into the marketing of myself and my business when I had no one standing over me bellowing orders.

So, to help you, I've collected some of my favourite productivity tips. Don't worry, no bellowing here. Just useful tips to make your time more valuable.

1. The Email Trap - Ugh, email is not work. I have had this conversation with so many IM newbies that I couldn't count the number if I tried. It's just not work. The second you start thinking that small tasks like email or cleaning up your desktop are productive tasks is the second you start upgrading your procrastination to other, far less useful tasks. Check your email less and get more out of your day.

2. Create Processes for Common Tasks - If you have a lot of common tasks, like uploading articles or writing blog posts, create processes for them. Don't throw it into your day randomly. Set aside a special time and a special process to get those things done. You'll quickly get them done faster and more efficiently every day.

3. Track Everything - Keep track of your goals, what you get done, and why you don't get everything done. I have a schedule, a calendar, and a journal that keep track of everything I need to do and everything I've done. That data is invaluable in planning from day to day.

4. Take Care of Yourself - Eat well, sleep enough, and get plenty of exercise. The people who seem to have the most trouble are the ones who eat junk food and sleep four hours a night. Trust me, if you take care of yourself, that extra hour at the gym will be well worth it.

5. The Multitasking Trap - I hate to tell you this, but multitasking is NOT your friend. I know. It's hard to believe, right? But, the truth of the matter is that even good multitaskers are more prone to abandon a task half finished or get distracted by a new idea. Feel free to eat your cereal and type at the same time, but don't attempt to do three or four projects at once. You probably waste more time than you save switching back and forth between tasks.

If you ask me, my time is the single most valuable thing I have after my family. Without time, I can't get anything done. Money, ideas, quality products - whatever. I need time to put it all together and boost my business.

So, use the time you have, stop wasting what you don't have, and rock your productivity. You'll thank yourself so much when you're getting twice as much done every day.
