Selling on eBay or Amazon - Or Craigslist?

Out of the top ten sites names on Alexa.com at the moment three of them are named above eBay, Amazon and Craigslist. They all provide a similar service but at the same time they are all very different.

Let us just for a moment look at the things that make them the same and then look at what also makes them different.

Amazon.Buys and Sells their own products and other peoples.

Craigslist.Neither Buys nor Sells products. But let's others use their site free.

eBay. Sells products for other people, it does not buy its own products to sell.

Let us look at each one in a bit more detail, both where they are the same and where they are different.

One place where they are all in same is that they are all purely 'online' traders, none of them operate from stores or franchises but they all use the Internet.

And that is about where the similarity ends.

As might quite rightly be expected the two companies (Amazon and eBay) that both stand to profit from any sales that are made via their web sites do take a certain degree of responsibility should there ever be a problems with any of the transactions.

eBay do their very best but with approximately 7 million new listings being posted every day there is only so much that they can do. But of course having said that the customer must accept a certain degree of responsibility for the trade themselves especially with eBay when dealing with a new Seller. Amazon on the other hand tend to take a slightly different approach but the one big difference is this: if you decide to sell Amazons products then although Amazons reputation is flawless it does put you personally into a different bracket to what you would be on eBay.

On eBay you are simply a member and you can buy and sell and make as much profit as you possibly can.

On Amazon if you are an Affiliate it can be different if you are selling their products, because like Wal-Mart (yes you can be an affiliate for Wal-Mart as well) your usual percentage of the deal will be about 3%. Amazons name is great and so are their products. You can of course just sell products on Amazon a bit like eBay but the process is a bit more complicated (in my opinion) the good bit about Amazon in that respect is that there is not a listing charge so if you don't sell it then it doesn't cost you anything. But the items that you are allowed to sell on Amazon are nowhere near as wide ranging as on eBay (or Craigslist).

Craigslist is rather a dark horse in this trio because although like eBay and Amazon it is in the top ten ranked sites of course not everybody goes onto Craigslist to buy or sell so it is a bit difficult to know why so many people go to the site other the fact that it is a great site.

A personal friend of mine advertised a car for sale on Craigslist last week and by midday he had had 35 people come round to look at it. Craigslist can be a feeding bowl for people looking for items to sell on either eBay or Amazon (mostly eBay)

It certainly does away with people saying 'I don't know what to sell?' the only thing is that you do need to know what you are buying or else you could end up losing money or your latest 'great deal'.

Just mix and match that's the answer,

That's it, Good Hunting,
