I have been involved with the network marketing industry for over 10 years. One thing that truly amazes me is the reluctance of my family and friends to support my business. Whether I was selling potions, lotions or services, I could not get the support I thought I would receive from my family and friends. I often wondered if I was selling lotto tickets would they at least consider buying some lotto tickets from me for their chance to win. I want to believe that there is something that I could sell, in this big old world, where I could get unconditional support from my family and friends.
I have built my business over the years with a 98% conversion rate from people I did not know. Most of my family and friends want to get involved on the back end once I have become successful and made profits. Some of my friends would then show up with the attitude that they always knew I could do it. I have built some solid relationships with people I have known for a very short period of time through my Multi Level Marketing (MLM) ventures. I can truly say, I have been blessed knowing these unique individuals because we seem to share similar views on life.
As I educate myself more and share the information with those who have the same mindset as myself, I enjoy the fact that a stranger in my life will generally help me accomplish some of the desires of my heart. From a stranger, I will generally hear that I can accomplish the things I have set my mind to accomplish.
I have come to understand why some of my friends and family will not support me. Their failure to reach out and support me emanates from a theory called "the crab in the barrel syndrome." The crab in the barrel syndrome is when a person makes the decision to make changes in their life, there are people who do not want to see the other person prosper so they will not help the other person. This mindset is adopted because generally the types of people who possess "the crab in the barrel syndrome" have no hope for themselves. What happens on the back end is when a person becomes successful the people who would not initially support them want to all of sudden come around. They come around because they want to be associated with a winner. They want to be close to a winner for selfish and self serving reasons.
The big irony in all of this is, that in most cases, we are there for the people who do not support us because we truly understand what being a friend truly means or the value of family. Now this is not a 100% matter of fact statement that I am making, it is a generalization. I do realize that there are some people who come from very supportive families, families who have encouraged their loved ones to go out and accomplish great things. I will go out on the limb and say 1 out of 5 families are like this.
All I want to say is that when you create your blueprint to change your life, generally most of your family and friends are not going to support you. There are some exceptions.
I suggest 3 things to keep you going:
1. You must stay FOCUSED. Anyone who is against your dream you must let them go.
2. You MUST maintain daily activity. Do at least 1 thing daily for your business.
3. Meet as many people as you can and share your vision, someone will listen.
When you maintain these 3 concepts success will await you around the corner.
The internet has millions of strangers to tell your story to!
