How to Be Productive While Working From Home

While working from home, one might perceive that it is difficult to stay productive. As with any business, productivity is essential in order to make and sustain a profit. Productivity at the home office should be kept at the same expectations as in the corporate work place.

Identifying productive activities is important. A list of tasks must be made along with an agenda. Break down your tasks into yearly, monthly, weekly and daily goals. Having a set plan of action on a daily basis allows you to check things off as you go to fulfill the weekly agenda. The same goes for the weekly and monthly goals. Everything has to be fulfilled in order for the yearly goal to be achieved.

Making a list or agenda does not have to be a difficult process. Start by writing out what you want to accomplish for that year. You know that there is no way to just accomplish that one goal by itself, so you have to break it down into smaller ones. Each smaller goal in itself will have even smaller goals involved. Once you have your goals established, either write them on a traditional wall calendar, day planner or best yet, your computers operating software's calendar. I recommend that you use a computer generated calendar. Both Google and Yahoo have outstanding calendar systems that allow you to customize your day, week, month and year. You can set up automatic notifications that will alert you of an upcoming task or event.

Make sure that you include in your daily schedule; hourly breaks, personal time, family time and recreational time. These may seem like a no brainer, but they are important to document so that you can carry them out. Working too much is the main cause of low productivity. When you get burnt out on tasks that you are working on for too long of a period of time, you lose interest and your mind starts to wander. Spend no more than one hour at a time working on a certain task. If that task is going to take more than one hour, take your scheduled breaks so that your mind can stay sharp and on point.

Most importantly is to reward yourself. As you complete certain tasks and goals, give yourself a reward. It does not matter what it is. Your reward can be a scoop of ice cream, going to the movies or whatever. If your achievement was large enough to really celebrate, go to a nice restaurant with the family and explain to them that you are doing this because you obtained your goal. You never know, your family might enjoy it so much that they will help you reach your other goals so that they can do it again.

There Are Some Skills Involved In Being a Mystery Shopper

Think you'd like to be a Mystery Shopper? There are definite skills involved. If you don't have these skills already or aren't willing to develop them you will not be a success. However, they are not hard to acquire.

1. Are you observant? Some people are more observant than others, but you can develop the ability with concentration and focus. As you get more assignments you will become more aware of what to look for and your observational skills will improve easily and quickly. To get some practice in observing, visit a store, restaurant, theater or such (even a bank) with a friend. Walk around together for 10 minutes or so just as two friends shopping. Don't discuss your hidden agenda while in the store; you are just shoppers.

Later, when you get outside and away from the store, compare your observations. Did you notice the kinds of things the Company might like to know? For instance, is the store clean? Well lighted? Clutter in the isles? Was the clerk helpful Available? Neat? What was the servers name? Was the meal hot? These are the kinds of things you want to observe and remember. You cannot take notes while in the store. Wait until you get around the corner or into your car.

2. Are you conscientious? and reliable? You'll meed to be. Obviously when the company or scheduler gives you an assignment it must be carried out. The Mystery Shoppers company or scheduler is obligated to have all the assignments done by a time schedule. If you don't do what you say you will, and do it the best you can, your shopper career will be very short.

3. Can you write an objective and thorough report? Short brief answers will not give the kind of report the companies want. It the questionnaire asks was the bathroom clean - just saying yes or no won't do for an answer. Something like this is more appropriate. The mens room was low on supplies, the waste basket overflowing and paper was on the wet floor. However, I noticed the cleaning schedule on the back of the door called for the attendant in about 10 minutes. I took a quick peek as I left about 20 minutes later and the room had been cleaned.

4. Do you have a computer and the ability to use it. Much of your written work can be done on computer. Remember, as a Mystery Shopper you will report on your experience. Your report will enable management to see where and what their problems are and how to fix them. The Mystery Shopper job is an important one. If you want to dedicate yourself to it, you can have good experiences and earn some extra money. But, if you are not ready to follow through, don't commit.

What NOT to Do When Training Your Teams Online!

As an online professor and course developer, I have created many classes, workshops, and training programs for the online environment. Since I have gotten more involved with my MLM business, I have been exposed to many different training techniques that upline use to train their downline. I can understand how time can fly and run on, topics can get a bit out of hand, and some items can get a bit out of control. However, I am going to share some BIG online educator secrets with all of you so you can train your teams EFFECTIVELY.

Here are 5 things that you want to AVOID when doing live trainings online for your team!

1. AVOID Starting Late!

Always start right on the dot. Who cares if people are late? So what? Remember in class and you were marked tardy if you were late? This is how it should be in your training sessions as well. Those overachievers and ones who really want the information make sure they are on your training early or on time. Don't punish them (that is exactly how they feel) by making them wait to get started. Let the others catch up. That is the price they pay for being unprofessional and being late.

2. AVOID Having Trainings Without An Agenda!

You want to always publish an agenda before the training. E-mail out an agenda for your participants before your training. This will let them know what is going to be discussed and they can decide if they want to attend or not. Give them an incentive at the end of the agenda to attend (some hot topic, contest announcement, etc.) Put all administrative announcements on the agenda so that you DO NOT have to cover it in the training. No training time should be used on administrative announcements that can be done via e-mail. Put it on the agenda so it is done and over before the training even begins.:-) If you are covering announcements for the first 15 min. of your training, you have lost the BEST retention time of your participants for the entire session.

3. AVOID Straying From Your Agenda.

The worst thing a leader can do in a training is totally go off topic and not follow the agenda they publish. This will make them look disorganized and it does the worst thing possible, makes the training longer. Stick to the agenda and if some subtopics arise from the training, write them down and put them on the agenda for the next training. It is as easy as that.:-)

4. AVOID Having Your Training Last Over 60 Min. Honestly, even 60 min. is TOO LONG for an online webinar. Studies show that the attention span on average is going to be 30 min. for online presentations, so you will be lucky if someone in your audience retains all information in the 60 min. If you get to 60 min. then STOP and push the rest of the agenda to the next training. Life will NOT stop. Your team will NOT die.;-) Pushing items from one agenda is fine. Remember the goal is to get your team to retain all the information you are presenting NOT to have the longest meeting in the history of an MLM team.:-)

5. AVOID Not Having Notes Available For Your Team After the Training.

Having wrap-up notes from each training is the best practice you can get into. If someone did not retain all the information, you are providing them with it again. Have someone on the team taking notes for you or you can take notes from your recording. Use the agenda that you have previously published and just fill in more details with bullets, then e-mail it again as "Notes from XXX Training." This will have a profound impact on your team's performance and reduce the amount of miscommunication among team members and transfer of information from the generations of downline.

Reflections of 18 Months of Online Activity

I must admit when I first decided to put myself out there in the online world, that I did have some certain ideas about how thing should proceed; now I can see they were all wrong.

For example, from my experience offline, I thought things could proceed much faster and be translated into more meaningful relationships sooner. I also thought that the "cause and effect," principle would be much more immediate.

But more importantly, I did not really know why I was there. Being a relationship focused sort of person I felt that communication would be as easy as it is for me offline; this of course is not the case. It took me a little while to see that everyone including myself all have agendas, conscious or unconscious. The trick is to find out what our agenda is.

I found there are basically three ways to navigate the forum circuit-

1. First the "push method "where you literally push your agenda and marketing onto everyone to get something back as quickly as possible.
2. Secondly the "pull method "where you draw to yourself the sort of people you are interested in and thirdly
3. The "interaction method" where you interact with people online and create a meaningful relationship with them.

The last option by far is the most preferable because actually you have fun, especially if the people with whom you interact are intelligent, emotionally mature and operate in a similar way to you in terms of their life approach.

If we have a certain idea of how things should proceed we are bound for difficulty because life is never predictable and at any moment the relationship with someone can become unhinged by a radical difference in attitude and outlook.

In this way blogs are brilliant because if you are honest with those who read your blogs and comments you will soon get a very good idea about those with whom you are connected and they will also get a good idea about you. This way is faster as it cuts to the chase and they either resonate with you or not.

The essential man or woman realizes after some life experience, that always operating from private goals is fraught with tension, stress, anguish and that if they live this way they will be continuously sitting on a volcano. They have learned that life is far bigger than their private goals and personal dreams.

The accidental person will always operate from private goals because he or she lives in a world of uncertainty and believes as if it is certain. This uncertainty of life can and does erupt at any moment, as we all have surely seen with our interactions online and offline and our personal lives also.

That is why some people even though successful or rich enough are often the first and the worst when they are confronted with something emotionally or financially dramatic.

I am still as challenged by the online world as I was but have taken a step back.

Put "Network" Before "Marketing"

All too often, when we start a MLM business our focus is on how soon we can make some money. While we may be trained to start our relationship with the "F.O.R.M." questions, we ask them with our agenda in the back of our minds. We are in a hurry to tell them about our product or opportunity, since we've been taught that "everyone needs this!"

What would happen if your only agenda was to make new friends? When you have a chance to meet someone new, just "connect" by asking questions they would love to answer, questions that get them to open up about what is good in their life. Do not ask anything that might make them feel negative. Here are some examples:

Ask how they got into their profession
Ask what they like about their job, not what they don't like
Ask what makes their company different from others in the industry
Ask about their hobbies
Ask about their favorite vacation spot

The goal is to find out how you can help them, how you can add value to their life. If you discover things you have in common that is great too because that could give you more ideas about how to add value.

What do I mean by adding value? Can you refer them to a person or business that can help them? Can you refer someone else to them? It is very powerful when you can start a connection between two people you know who can benefit each other. In this way, you can build relationships even with people who are currently competitors of yours. You never know when things will change and you might be able to work together. You can also pass along anything of personal value, like information about a sale at a store you both like or something their kids would be interested in. Just be sure you are helpful and not annoying.

Do you see how it takes the pressure off both of you, when your only goal is to build a friendship? Sure, you say, sounds like fun. But how do I make any money?

Good question. Think about these things:

Some people you meet have no interest in your product or business; they are not prospects now
Everyone is a potential new friend
Most people want to know, like, and trust someone before they do any business with them
People don't care what you know until they know that you care. They want to matter to you.

Does true networking take time? Yes! Is it worthwhile? I think patience is a virtue, and good things come to those who wait. What do you think?

Does Network Marketing Work? - Article 2

I have been examining the subject of Internet Marketing to see whether I can indeed supplement my income, or whether it is all hype.

So, following on from my previous Article my next step is to look at my own assets and liabilities in relation to the talents I will need to get a Business up and running. The whole project is of course constrained by my need to conserve what little capital I have - money is obviously at a premium.

In a different world I would not be examining the nuts and bolts of getting this up and running. In a different world I would simply sub contract each of the required elements to professionals and pay for the privilege. There are a variety of sites that cater for this approach where you can discover anything from programmers, authors, press releases, sales letters etc... which can all be hired out easily.

In an ideal world I would simply be a project manager, pulling all the various strands of the project together with the the tekky bits provided by others.

This is I believe the real secret for success, being a Project Manager looking after Strategy and avoiding any involvement in the Tactical tekky stuff. The real question is how to get to that Promised Land.

Obviously I am going to have to struggle at first to get the cash flow moving with a view to adopting this Project Manager approach for future projects, but at the moment my focus is on doing whatever it takes to earn some cash. Let the future take care of itself.. So then, the first item on the agenda is deciding on a Strategy...what specific areas do I have to focus on and what specifically am I going to need to do to start the ball rolling?

The first item on the agenda then is deciding on a Product. What niche market will I be comfortable with which is popular and gives some prospect of success (i.e. Sales) and then what am I going to have to do to find a product in that niche? How am I going to find a ready made product with market appeal? One that preferably is already selling and one where I can obtain selling rights to the product?

Well, the game's afoot as Sherlock said... tune in to my next Article for an update on my search

Tips to Avoid Frustration

Optimizing your day is the most difficult thing to do when you work from home. Interferences come from everywhere: kids, telephone calls from friends, mum, dad, sisters and brothers or market research companies, postman, occasional door-to-door sales person (yes, they still exist!), shopping to do, laundry and the list goes on and on. Staying focused is very difficult and avoiding distraction is an ordeal. Over time I developed a few strategies that help me stay or go back on track when I drift off. Here are a few tips:

- At night I write a list of the things I need to do the following day. I divide a sheet of paper in columns (I prefer to use paper and pen, but you can write on your computer if this is better for you), each with a different heading: work, shopping, kid's agenda, etc.

- In the morning, I go through my list, prioritize the items and enter them in my agenda. I cross out items as I complete each task. I developed a trick to avoid frustration whenever I realize that the day is over and I have not completed all the listed items: in the agenda for that specific day, I only enter those items that I am sure I can accomplish that day. Those tasks I am sure I will not be able to complete are entered in a generic "to do" list and will be dealt with on another day.

- I check my email at specific times: 9:00 am-1:00 pm-5:00 pm and definitely avoid any attempt at having a peep at it outside my scheduled "email check times".

- I check my Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn accounts only from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The same rule I strongly abide to for my email also applies in this case: no peeping at social networks outside allowed times.

- I work only until 3:00 pm: this is the time my eldest child comes back home from school. When my first child was born I decided that I would never consider or treat her as something secondary in my life and that all the time I would spend with her would always be just for her and for nothing else. So the rule still applies: from 3:00 pm I'm just for my children. Everything else can be put off until tomorrow. If I have a very tight deadline, I may work at night, once my children are asleep or, alternatively, I wake up very early in the morning. And I am very happy I made this choice: my relationship with my children is very special!

- One last tip: I only answer my business phone and I check who is calling. All private calls are returned during my breaks or after dinner time. They can be a very dangerous distraction. Working from home is a privilege, but it requires discipline. And discipline requires practice.
