How to Apply for an EIN

An Employer Identification Number, or EIN, is a nine digit number that is assigned to certain businesses by the Internal Revenue Service. The purpose in getting an Employer Identification Number is to make it more efficient for the IRS to identify businesses that are required to file business tax returns. It is important to note that you will need to use this same number for any filings you need to make with the Social Security Administration, or SSA.

Who Should Get an EIN?

There are a variety of different types of business entities that should apply for an Employer Identification Number. Some of these include corporations, partnerships, sole proprietors, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, trusts and estates, employers, and some individuals. To find out whether you, or your business, should have an Employer Identification Number, contact the IRS or your accountant for professional advice. They can also let you know if your business is exempt from this particular filing requirement.

As a general rule, if any of the following apply to your business, you will need to apply for an EIN:

If you have a Keogh plan

If you withhold taxes on income (other than wages) for a non-resident alien

If you operate as a partnership or corporation

If you have employees

If you file the following types of tax returns: Tobacco and Firearms, Alcohol, Excise, or Employment

If you are involved with any of these organizations: Farmers' coops, nonprofit organizations, plan administrators, estates, real estate mortgage investment conduits, trusts

Applying for an EIN

You can apply for an Employer Identification Number in a number of different ways through the Internal Revenue Service's website. Your options include contacting them via a toll free telephone number, online, fax, or snail mail. Once you have applied for your Employer Identification Number, you should receive it in about one week, so it doesn't take too long once the process has been started.

If you need to file a return before you receive your newly assigned number, simply contact the IRS (preferably via telephone) so that you can let them know about your situation. They will be able to look up your business and determine what your new number is, and they can also help you with filing for an extension so that you do not incur any late filing fees, should this become necessary.

If you don't feel comfortable trying to apply for your EIN on your own, consult with your tax attorney or accountant for assistance. Depending on the type of business you have, it may be a good idea to obtain some professional advice before applying for an EIN. An accountant or tax attorney should be able to provide you with all of the information you need so that you can determine whether you really need an EIN or not.

The Internal Revenue Service also has customer support services should you find that you need additional help in applying for an Employer Identification Number. You may choose to speak to a support representative by phone, via email, or through instant messaging. Regardless of the method of communication that you choose, you should be able to obtain the help that you need in order to complete your application.

Once you have an established Employer Identification Number, if you need to make any changes to your business information such as address or other contact information, you will need to alert the IRS immediately to avoid any potential future problems.

Freelancing Revealed

Freelancing e.g. working as a freelancer means working something you want to do, using your skills and expertize. If you have skills in writing, programming, graphic and web design, data entry jobs, consulting, tech support, marketing and promoting etc. freelancing is the right opportunity for you to make an extra income online.

What do you need? Almost nothing - just your skills (a computer and internet if needed) and after a registration (which is free) you'll be able to apply for jobs and projects and get paid for it.

Some of the best places to start as a freelancer are:

Freelancer.com (previously known as GetAFreelancer) is one of the largest sites of its kind and growing. Its very easy and intuitive to use, so I recommend you to start on this one. Several hundred new projects in many categories are posted every day and possibilities are many. Registration is free and you can use it to bid (apply) on projects. In the start you are limited in the number of bids you can placed but that number will grow with every month and with every project you'll win and successfully completed or you can upgrade to Gold member and avoid this limit. For every successful job you'll finish you get a review from a buyer and a payment thru the site's escrow system which money can be transfered from your account at Freelancer.com to your PayPal, Moneybookers, or a debit card issued thru the site which can be very handy because its accepted online and on every ATM worldwide.

Scriptlance.com is another great site for a freelancer's start. Very simmilar to previous and with almost same functionality and even easier to use. You're not limited in bidding quota.

oDesk is another great freelance site, a bit different from the previous two. Beside the weekly quota of 20 bids the site offers its custom software for communication between freelancer and the buyer and provides the buyer abbility to monitor the freelancer's work. This is so, because on oDesk the jobs are classified as fixed (with a fixed price per project) and hourly (buyer is billed hourly, depending of the lenght of the work freelancer is payed by hour). Payment is thru escrow and a freelancer have several options to withdraw his money just as on Freelancer and Scriptlance

vWorker (formerly Rent A Coder) is one of the oldest sites of its kind. Have simmillar functionality but a litle bit old look. Althou its very easy to search for projects and bid on it, providing samples if necessary. All conversation between buyer and the freelancer including files is thru the site' s interface.

Other sites worth to be mentioned but some additional rules may apply:

Get a Coder - simmilar to above

Guru - is a great place to find computer related jobs (20 bids quota)

EU Freelance - a division of Freelancer

iFreelance - good place to search for jobs but think it requires paid membership

eLance - offers many different job categories but requires monthly membership fee

TIPS for a good start as FREELANCER:

- Bid only in categories you have good skills and you can finish the project as required, getting the customer satisfied so you might be hired from the same person again in future

- Provide mock ups and examples if you can. This will help you winning the project and build a portfolio

- Build a portfolio website promoting your skills as freelancer and examples of your work (if the buyer agree to allow you to use it for your portfolio only. You'll have to ask before do this, but a refference only and a link to it will do the job also)

- After you earn some money and a reputation its wise to upgrade your membership to be able to bid on more projects and in different categories

- Some of the sites offer a prepaid MasterCard which is very useful to have as its accepted online and on the ATMs worldwide

How Can I Apply For Work Online?

If you want to apply for work online, there are many jobs available. It largely depends on a number of factors, including how much money you want to earn, what type of skills you have and when you are available for work.

There are many different types of opportunities for people who want to apply for work online. Here are a few of them:

1. Survey taking: Real companies want your opinion on their products and services and they are willing to pay you for your opinion. There are some scam survey sites that do not pay, but if you want to locate legitimate ones, you should check SurveyCop.com for a list of sites that pay, as well as the locations you can take surveys from. Certain countries are not eligible, so you need to read the details. Many survey sites will pay you by check or via a PayPal account. Some survey sites offer entries into sweepstakes, largely because they have had issues in the past with members who signed up for multiple accounts and got paid too many times. Make sure you read the terms of service before you sign up for any survey site to ensure how you will be rewarded.

2. Freelancing sites: One way to apply for work online is with freelancing sites. These are a service for people who want to work as well as people who need work done. If you have a skill or something you can do online, like building web sites, backlinking, writing articles, creating web content or any of those types of things, you can set up a free account on most of these sites and either offer a service or start to bid on jobs. It is difficult to secure jobs on these sites if you have no feedback, so it is suggested you bid very low on your first few jobs to obtain good feedback so that you can ask for more money later.

3. Affiliate marketing: Hands down, this is the best way to work online. You carry no product and have no responsibility to anyone except yourself. This is a good area to get educated in, you just need to find a really good training site to get the basic skills you need before you get started.

I was earning just peanuts online. Now I work in a more organized fashion that is paying off ever since I decided to join wealthy affiliate based on a [http://pennyseek.com/wealthy-affiliate-review]wealthy affiliate review that I had read.
