Useful Techniques In Promoting The Flow Of Creativity

A number of conscious techniques have been shown to promote the flow of creativity.

* Brainstorming- Brainstorming guarantees a free flow of ideas, associations, and concepts, however foolish they may seem at the outset. Energy generated by a brainstorming group is contagious, fostering creative leaps and jumps. The speed of the process bypasses the logical circuitry of the left side of the brain, allowing imaginative ideas from the right side- the creative side- to emerge uncensored- perhaps offering possibilities for innovative products or services.

* Finding The Zone- Artists, athletes, and crafts people often express the phenomenon of being in the creative zone, a state in which it's almost as if they are running on automatic pilot. This actually happens when people are so totally absorbed in what they are doing that their creative energy takes over and generates its own momentum. Total concentration seems to switch something in the brain that enables pure, unrestrained expression. Science confirms that there are chemical and biological changes accompanying this state.

* Stimulating The Creative Side Of The Brain- The right side of the brain is where intuitive and creative abilities reside; the left side is where logical thinking takes place. A number of techniques exist that allow you to switch consciously from left side to right, thereby enabling you to tap into your reserves of inspiration and innovation. One activity that can trigger this is to write or draw with your non-dominant hand, simply allowing your instinct to direct your muscles. The result is a product of the creative side of the brain. Visualization can also be helpful. Close your eyes and draw what's in your mind's eye. Your imagination is also part of your right-brain activity.

* Writing down a few pages of your thoughts on a daily basis- whatever comes into your mind - can also open up channels of creativity. It's important not to get in your own way as you write- just let ideas flow without judging or filtering them. You may feel self-conscious or awkward at first, but if you keep at it, you'll find that your mind is much freer and your expression more fluid. Your ability to formulate ideas, think abstractly, and make decisions improve, while counterproductive tendencies like having tunnel vision or being judgmental will diminish.

* Relaxation/Meditation- Logical thinking generates beta waves in the brain. Meditation and Relaxation techniques produce alpha waves, whose myriad positive effects include creative thought. With practice, you can meditate even in the midst of chaos- in an airport or on a city street. Certain breathing techniques can also help clear your mind and change your brain activity from beta to alpha waves. The alpha state has been found to be an exceptionally good way to enhance learning as it clears the path for new thoughts and inspiration. Listening to soothing, uncomplicated music is another way of turning your brain into a different wavelength.

* Doing Something Out Of Context- Being creative is about breaking habits and being open to new thoughts and experiences. Try doing something you've never done before- something undemanding like going to an event that you wouldn't normally be interested in, or taking a different route to work. You may be amazed at how such a simple change can open the creative floodgates.

If you're struggling to solve a particularly difficult problem, try asking a child or elderly relative. Without the clutter of knowledge (or, in the elderly relative's case, with the wisdom of experience), someone coming fresh to the problem can often trigger insights that can prove useful.

5 Ways to Manage Boring and Repetitive Tasks in a Home Based Business

One of the challenges in the early stages of setting up a business from home is the necessity to consistently complete tasks that, for most of us, are boring and repetitive.

So, here are 5 ways to help make these early days a little less onerous:

1. Know Why You Are Doing It

If you know what you want to achieve from having your own business, as opposed to a job, you can remind yourself of this when the going gets tough. The more specific you are the better. Don't just say I want to get rich. Get clear about how much you want to earn on an annual basis and then spend some time thinking about why you picked that amount.

Pay particular attention to what you are waiting to create in the the future that you could do/have in some form now. Then don't wait. Do it now.

2. Don't Keep Giving Yourself Negative Messages

Don't keep telling yourself how "boring" it is - or whatever your particular moan is. Don't talk about it, either to others or in you head. Just get on with it.

The human brain is a magical biocomputer. It sends us energy when we send it something inspiring and it slows us down when we send it something negative or depressing.

The important bit to understand is that we are the ones who are sending the thoughts to the computer. Life doesn't send the brain anything. We do, by how we interpret what life offers and the story we tell ourselves about it. For example we might say "These tasks are dull and boring and I don't want to do them" or we could say "This process is a necessary step along the way that is taking me closer to what I want and it won't be like this forever". Both are interpretations and stories. BUT, one sends energy and enthusiasm and the other frustration and fatigue.

3. Break Down Your Work Into Manageable Chunks

Don't work on any one task for longer than 45 minutes. And break up the work with something that requires you to move your body and get away from the computer.

4. Celebrate Your Successes

Rather than focussing on what you still have to do make a record of what you've done. For example, in my internet marketing business, I've found it motivating to have a chart on my wall that I colour in every time I write a new article. I also have one for number of articles submitted. Watching the numbers increase shows me that I'm achieving something, even if the anticipated results of my work, in terms of visitor numbers, rankings etc. have yet to arrive, and this helps me stay motivated.

5. Learn Something New

Whist your daily work is still at the stage of boring and repetitive it's worth making the time to learn something new. This may or may not be work related. However, DO NOT do this, until you've completed your essential work activities.

Research shows that the brain actually adds physical capacity (similar to the way an exercised arm adds strength) when you learn something new. It doesn't just add the information, it adds "learning strength" by way of dendrite growth in the physical brain that can actually be measured.

When you learn a new language, or a musical instrument, for example, your brain actually grows smarter and more capable of solving problems. So keep your brain healthy by balancing out the monotony with something new and stimulating.

Whatever you choose to do, there is no getting away from the necessity to develop discipline and keep repeating the essential tasks on a daily basis, if you want to make a success of your online business. Hopefully the 5 tips above will make your efforts a little easier so, before you know it, you can outsource this stuff and spend more time on the things that are most inspiring to you.

Network Marketing Info Overload

Too much info on the internet so little time to get to it all. What do we do shut down? No. Do we stop moving forward? No. Do we need a solution? Yes! Information overload is becoming a problem and it starts to really delay the learning flow. Somethings gotta give right?

Today being a network marketer you have so much info being thrown at you it starts flowing out your ears.

A knew book, CD, e-book, program ect you get the point.

With all this new stuff coming out every few months how do you keep up without getting left out? With not enough time to learn every little new thing its frustrating.

In this industry you must continue to learn and grow because there will always be evolving around you, and you want to stay on top of the times as your business will florish and grow if you do so.

As we know this isn't easy, it would be nice if we had double the hands to do different tasks but that's unrealistic.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed or overloaded with all the information being feed to you daily once you start your own business? Like brain shut down?

Well let me be honest with you i started feeling that about a month ago like i had brain freeze but without the hurt part. It was as if i couldn't get my mind to focus and move forward. My brain was at a stand still. Pretty aggravating. I had info shock! I wanted to learn so much and in the process I got to much and my brain shut down. Well i realized i wasn't a robot and i had to take it easy and not get so worked up and do what my brain could handle. It's safe to say im doing better.

This my friends is what i call to much information on the internet!

But i was happy to find something special that would change how we handle all this info and use it for the better.

We all could use some guidance and help along the way when going through such frustrating times right?

As we know mike dillard is a network marketing guru and has come out with some pretty great stuff, recently he has announced his latest project to help us get out of the information overload which in my opinion is amazing since i have experienced it.

Home Based Business - What is Stopping You? Seth Godin May Have the Answer

I was just reading an interview with Seth Godin, a very popular speaker, book writer and the creator of Squidoo. Naturally the concept of the lizard brain came up.

If you don't know; it's the way Seth describe our tendency to fit in, not be different or stir things up, in other words, conform. The interviewer asked how do you get out of the Lizard brain? He had a number of ideas including will power, habits that reduce it's influence or just letting it run loose and not give in.

He then discussed Seth's idea of shipping which is really just action; doing something. It occurs to me that shipping is probably the best way to shake loose the hold of the lizard brain. Sure make a plan. But then execute it. And keep executing. And after that? Yup, you got it, execute some more.

I come from a tech background with project management and there is a place where the tendency is to cover all the basis before doing something. Many projects just don't launch. That is sometimes good, but I believe a great many opportunities have been missed due to a lack of action because that lizard brain was keeping us from stepping out of the norm and trying something different and probably unknown.

We live in a time when the people are looking to have greater control in their lives and want more security but are apprehensive of the risks involved in taking that control for themselves. How about you?

Me? I finally realized that the lack of security is so prevalent in our society; even our classic "safe" jobs, that it was time to take matters into my own hands.

Sure it was scary at first. I was used to over 20 years of employment and contracting with various employers. But the fact that they couldn't give me a better guarantee then doing it on my own, forced me to accept the only logical conclusion; it was far less risky to have my own business than to rely on someone else managing theirs for my employment.

This realization caused me to act and get past my "lizard brain" and its false sense of security in typical employment. Still scary, I know, but there is a lot more information and education out there to allow someone to start up a home based online business with mentoring that it is a shame to not take advantage of it.

You really owe it to yourself to find out what is really holding you back from taking complete control of your life and doing the work you want to do. Find out and then take action!

To make money on internet marketing don't settle for second best!

Neural Networks - Is Google Invading the Space?

How big is the Web? The last numbers I saw (Feb 2010) estimated 750 million websites worldwide, plus 200 million blogs. There are of course other domains which Google scans. Other figures suggest 25 billion indexed webpages (Netcraft March 2009), but that number will have grown a lot since then. In this context, we take 'Google' to be a combination of a search engine and an instantaneous results set across all web site and blog resources worldwide.

Here, I use the term neural network not in the strict Artificial Intelligence sense, but in a more general sense.

Consider a simple model of the human brain. It has a set of data inputs (visual, auditory, chemical - taste and smell, pressure - touch, thermal, inertial - the ear canals) and a memory structure. Data input is captured in short term memory. Brain processing adds context making it information, then sorts and filters it, and then moves it to long term memory. This move to long term memory is thought to happen during sleep and dreaming.

The short and long term memory is in the form of junctions between brain cells known as synapses. More input on a given memory strengthens the relevant synapses - that is repeated exposure to a given input strengthens the particular memory. For example, the more we taste bananas, then the easier it is to 'recreate' the taste in our minds.

We know that as we age, the more salient memories (stronger synapses from earlier in our lives) are easier to retrieve, short term memory becomes less efficient and recent (but long term) memories are difficult to retrieve.

Sorry, where was I? Ah yes, I remember now.

Our ability to build new synapses falls off with age in most people, and once we reach maturity we are unable to grow additional brain cells. Autonomic responses (e.g. breathing) use 'hard wired' memory in the hypothalamus which is a very primitive part of the brain structure which may be compared to 'read-only' memory in a computer.

So, consider Google to have a set of data inputs - primarily the bot/crawler data gathering, but also input about the 'popularity' of web pages as gathered through use of its search engine by users. The data from these bots about a given web page - for example keyword relevance of content, the number of external links to the page and so on, is converted into Google's proprietary and secret page rank scores and provides a 'salience' for the analogous or proxy Google synapse. The analogous Google synapse is simply (I assume as I am not privy to Google's design) a database row for the website/page with the aforementioned data items (including the page rank/scoring factors) in the columns, site map entries and site refresh rate and search history information. Plus, no doubt, lots more as they are avid data gatherers.

Of course the analogy with the human brain breaks down with time, as we would not expect the Google model to suffer from a capacity limitation or by a constraint imposed by 'technology' (as happens with the brain when we age and the synapse building processes become less efficient).

So, what use is this analogy to us? Well, consider how we might wish to add to human brain capacity and extend its efficiency - we are getting into William Gibson territory now (he was the author who invented the term 'cyberspace'). Why plug additional memory chips into the brain, when all that is needed is a connection to Google? Science fiction? I don't think it is that far away (less than 50 years). The potential social consequences are quite frightening to consider.

How to Learn and Mentally Prepare to Succeed in the Internet World

Have you ever wondered why some subjects are just difficult for us to learn? Is it because they are too complex or does the subject lack meaning for us? Research has shown that making meaning of information is a complex process that involves many areas of the brain (Jensen, 1998). From a constructivist point of view, we build our understandings as a result of our experiences and interactions with the world around us, (Dewey, 1929).

We are able to make meaning of content when we have a particular "connection" with our background, either cognitively, emotionally, or spiritually. However, the structured environments of most learning institutions do not provide opportunities for learners to explore and develop their talents based on their interests or their past experiences.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 1989 called for a restructuring of the way students learn. Researchers recognized that the United States was falling dangerously behind other countries in the education of its youth, particularly in math and science. According to Scott Grabinger and Joanna Dunlap at the University of Colorado at Denver, "We treat students passively for 12 to 16 years, rarely giving them the opportunity to take responsibility for their own learning, to explore ideas of their own choosing, to collaborate with one another or with teachers, or to make valuable contributions to the learning of others. They do not learn to take charge of their own learning nor do they learn the skills necessary to become life-long learners and daily problem solvers."

In today's global economy, workers are challenged to assimilate over a thousand times more information in a day than workers twenty years ago. Just the sheer volume of information available on the internet makes it imperative that workers are able to create mental patterns that translate into meaningful and useful information that can be shared with others. In this "information age", we are challenged to use the "pattern-making" areas of our brain to associate and organize all of the new information that comes our way daily (Healy, 1994).

Since these pattern making tasks require different areas of our brain, involve the connections to past experiences and evoke emotional response to situations, it is important that we collaborate and share our learning experiences with others. This allows us to incorporate these patterns into our own mental framework without having to sift through another thousand items of information. That is why it so important to open our minds to the ideas of others, select an experienced mentor, learn from him/her, and not limit ourselves to only one way of thinking.

Utilizing these principals, we are able to take our new associates by the hand and teach them the necessary tools and skills that are essential requirements for success in the Internet World. The 4-step teaching method includes mental preparedness, written, video, and audio media as well as multiple weekly webinars by the experts in their respective fields. Through collaboration and interaction with others, we not only share our interests, but we gain insight into the cognitive patterns of others.

Currently engaged in network marketing and mentoring prospective clients in all aspects of Internet Based businesses. Before entering the world of Internet Marketing I was a software consultant for ten years and trained users with varying degrees of computer knowledge on very complex software systems. Do Your Expectations Matter in Your Home Based Business?

More and more, experts are finding that managing your expectations can significantly impact your ability to be productive with your home based business. This is not just a theory, this is based on what happens chemically, in your brain that can help you to be focused and motivated, or that can cause you to lose your focus and reasoning ability. The implication of being able to manage your expectations is therefore critical to your success.

What scientists have found is that "mis-setting" of expectations -- either too high or too low inhibits brain functions and your ability to think clearly!

Without getting too technical here, science can now measure how your brain reacts depending on external influences. Deep within the brain, dopamine cells await cues to release chemicals -- called dopamine -- based on the anticipation of a primary reward. It should be noted that unexpected rewards cause MORE dopamine to be released than expected rewards.

Think about that from your perspective: If you were to get an unexpected bonus -- regardless of how big or small, you would get a bigger dopamine hit than if you were expecting a raise and got it.

Once dopamine hits your system, you are able to focus more intently, you have more energy, and you have a more positive, outlook on life in general.

On the other hand, if you are expecting something good, that doesn't happen or you aren't expecting something bad -- that does happen, the dopamine levels in your system drop dramatically. The effect of decreased dopamine levels are dramatic. You can be in a funk for days -- maybe weeks. Your focus dissolves, your energy is drained, and you have a less positive outlook on life in general.

Low levels of unmet expectations are something we get all the time -- exasperation and frustrations are attributed to a drop in lower dopamine levels, which ends up causing lower brain function. In fact, we might say that unmet expectations dumbs us down!

Which, as an aside, is why we act stupid when we're angry or upset!

What this means, is that we must learn to manage our own expectations. Its particularly important in business, because you need to be able to focus clearly and energetically in order to get things done.

The easiest way to manage your expectations is to create them and monitor them consciously. Creating them is a process you go through when you set your goals and then the tasks to reach those goals. Thoughtful task creation can establish the kind of expectations that when met, increase the dopamine levels in your brain. Monitoring your thoughts about your expectations, is something you consciously think about each and every day. It takes practice but it's worth it!
