Why You Shouldn't Spend More Than 10k on a Carpet Cleaning Truck Mount

Have you decided to upgrade from the portable, or do what I did and spend a few more bucks initially and skip the portable phase? I am here to tell you that you should not spend more than five thousand dollars on your first truck mount machine. In my article "Carpet Cleaning Machines 101" I reinforced the point that carpet cleaning machines do two things, spray and suck. There is no reason, if you are starting out, to spend more than 10 thousand dollars on a machine.
What price gets you...
Machines that are in and above the 20k range get you aesthetic value. These machines look pretty, have cool names, and in my opinion are way over-engineered. These machines are pretty exotic, they have sensors, clutches, and other functional parts. These parts will not only break and overhead to your business, but they will also confuse you and add time to each job. Start with a basic spray and suck machine and learn how to use that before upgrading to the machine with all the bells and whistles. As long as you have the PSI, suction, and heat, you are doing fine. You don't need a Ferrari of a machine to do a good job. Keep it simple!
What I did, and what I think you should do...
I searched Craigslist constantly when I was looking for a machine. I was able to pick up a van and machine for under 6 thousand dollars. The van needed a little work, in the end I ended up spending closer to 7 thousand total and now I have a fully functional, good looking truck mount and van. The truth is that I found a great deal. You can too, all you have to do is put a little extra effort in your search for a machine.
Results...
In the end you won't have a loan outstanding to pay for every month. You should be able to own your rig outright in a few months. You will have taken a giant step for your business and for your customers. Think of this as just another step, like when you bought your first machine (if it was a portable), then when you upgrade, you will have a better framework to base your work off.

A Carpet Cleaning Business - Which is the BEST Start Up System?

Starting up a carpet cleaning business can be the hardest part of the whole process. Many questions arise such as which system is best portable, or truck mount? Should I choose to buy an already existing franchise or, go it alone? Here are a few simple steps to help you start your small business.
Starting a carpet cleaning business at the beginning is fraught with al types of questions on where to even start. For those of us who have been in the industry for decades understand that a portable machine is just as good as a truck mounted unit, it is not the tool, it is the carpenter. The biggest issue is going to be whether or not to go about setting it up your self or, purchasing a franchise or non-franchise system.
A franchise system does have its perks such as the equipment and training ready to go, as well as contracts and advertising help you will need. The downside of the franchise opportunity with a carpet cleaning business of course is going to be the cost of the start up and the cost to you. The larger franchise opportunities can start as low as $20K and run up through $200K easily, this can be a hurdle and stumbling block to many in this economy. Leasing does seem to have the advantage as well as financing, but then again, you will be paying more out in the short term out-of-pocket.
The non-franchise systems have the advantage of lower costs for starting your business and the training to help you get set up quickly and effectively. This particular industry because of the non-franchise systems has become one of the simplest and quickest businesses to recoup ones investment. Keeping your business simple from the beginning will help you keep finding success with it simple.
Starting a carpet cleaning business is as simple as making money with this particular small business. It is best to complete your due diligence in searching out the best start up system. This will help to keep you from creating anymore debt you might have already and deep you focused on the end result which is getting started quickly and efficiently towards success with your own business.

Now is a Perfect Time to Start a Carpet Cleaning Business

Starting your own business has always been the goal of many individuals who would like more control of their financial future. This has never been more true as we endure the current recession. Obviously the big question is what business to start. The purpose of this article is to explain why Carpet Cleaning is a great business venture to consider.

I would like to preface this with the fact that Carpet Cleaning is a meat and potatoes business. This is not a get rich quick off the internet while sitting in front of your computer. This is real manual labor that can be dirty and messy at times. However, it is a real business that can provide a substantial income along with a satisfaction of a job well done that many other businesses could never provide.

So if the thought of real work with real income and job satisfaction sounds enticing then please read on. There are many important considerations to consider when starting a business, and I am going to show you why there has never been a better time to start a carpet cleaning business.

There have been many advancements in carpet cleaning in the past decade, but none more important than encapsulation cleaning. Encapsulation cleaning is a cleaning chemistry that actually encapsulates the dirt in microscopic crystals that are easily vacuumed out once dry. Why is this such an important advancement in regards to starting a business? Simply because the entire process of carpet cleaning has been revamped. No longer do you need a big expensive extraction unit to rinse and suck out the dirt while cleaning. These units can cost upwards of $20,000, and that is not even taking the large van needed to haul the unit in. With encapsulation, you can fit all of your equipment in small SUV or van. More importantly, the equipment needed to clean with this method is very affordable and very easy to use. You can buy all the equipment and supplies you need to run this business for under $5,000 easily. Of course this price depends on the quality and quantity of equipment you get. Either way, when compared to the cost of traditional HWE's (Hot Water Extractors) it is a much more economically viable option for many.

How well does it clean? That's the exciting thing about the recent advancements in encapsulation cleaning. You can be confident that you will be able to remove dirt and stains with even the best of truck mounted HWEs. Plus, the carpets you clean will be dry in about 30 minutes to an hour. People hate wet carpets, but have accepted it as a part of carpet cleaning. You can now offer them another more attractive choice. Combine that with the fact that the cleaning is done completely in-house, with no hoses running through open doors, and you can see that you will be able to offer them a real reason to choose you over the competitor. That is because 90% of your competition will be truck mount units.

Finally, carpet cleaning is a recession-proof business. The reason for that is because when the economy slows, those people that were planning on buying new carpets, will in turn get their current carpets cleaned. Powerhomebiz named carpet cleaning one of the top 10 business to get into.

Carpet cleaning is a viable business with great growth and income potential. Now with the advent of this new technology, it has become a very affordable option for many entrepreneurs.

Starting a Carpet Cleaning Business - Truck Mounted Unit Vs Portable Extractor

Starting a carpet cleaning business is the subject of the last few articles I have written and today is the subject of truck mounted unit verses portable extractor units. For many looking to start their own carpet cleaning business this is the most important step in the whole process, this is the "money maker". Here is a simple review of both units.
As one who has worked countless years with both the truck mounted unit and the portable extractor machine, I hope to make the decision for those wanting to start a carpet cleaning business a bit easier in this particular area. Truck mounted units first off come with a much heavier price, and an even heavier price when it comes to choosing your business with a giant franchise business. The price however does not reflect however the overall performance as you will see. These machines do add up to a certain professionalism though when pulling up curbside to the job itself however, and this business is all about professionalism. The other plus is the fact that the machine is stationary and allows for a shorter time spent at each job. But is this worth the price paid? That is a question to only be determined by you and what you can afford.
Portable extraction units do have less of a professional appeal and to be honest, this should not exist. Many business owners with the truck mounted units in larger cities carry both due to the numerous high rises. This fact of functionality should put that uneasiness to rest with the portable unit. The other fact that is so alluring with this choice is the basic fact of cost when starting your carpet cleaning business. Today, and in this economy, choosing a portable unit is not only smarter, but to tell you the truth...the better choice. It has functionality, and the professionalism should come from you, not the machine or tool you use.
For those of us who have been around and successful for any amount of time in this industry, either of these carpet cleaning units are effective and can get you where you want to be. "It is not the tool...it is the carpenter" is what my grandfather used to say, and in this matter it is very true. When starting a carpet cleaning business the fact of whether you use a portable or truck mounted unit should not matter, professionalism and quality work is what makes this industry so lucrative, and the fact that in this economy many choose to hold onto the carpet they have, and spend money on just the upkeep instead of throwing out the old.
