How to Start a Baking Business at Home - A Potential Goldmine

The best thing about learning how to start a baking business at home is that I will get to earn money while doing something that I love. It also helps if I have a recipe with secret ingredients that that I have learned to develop and sue over time. Knowing how to bake will also help. Here is what I did when I started my home based baking business.

I first of all made enquiries about the licenses and certificates that I needed before I could begin operations. I also made sure that I had my home business insured. My next step was to buy the different types of baking tins that I would use to bake my cakes and breads. I also encouraged my friends and family to try out my home baked goodies. This is because I realized the best marketing for my products would be through word of mouth. My small network of customers ended up growing because I was providing people with freshly baked products that kept them asking for more.

I continued to keep track of my business development and I made sure I filed my taxes on time. I also took time to differentiate my products from what other people were offering. One of the products that I introduced to the market was whole meal breads and cakes. These proved to be quite a hit with my customers because not only were they great tasting but were also very filling. Also the smell of freshly baked cakes has a way of providing a bit of cheer especially during winter.

Your Leads Are Hay Or Needles

Some of my friends were talking about prospecting, and the different avenues for finding people to talk to, and how the percentages are likely the same no matter what method you choose to use to find those people to talk to. And one said,

"It's like looking for the proverbial 'needle in the haystack'. You just keep picking up the pieces of hay and asking 'are you a needle or a piece of hay?'"

Then it dawned on her, and on me as well as I read their conversation.

I wonder if you can find yourself in this analogy as well:

Sometimes we get into the mode of picking up a piece of hay and asking, "Are you a needle?" And then, when the hay reveals itself to only be a piece of hay we then begin the process to try to transform that hay.

1.You mile at it and cheer it on and try to motivate it into evaluating itself again to make SURE it's a piece of hay. 2.You coddle, caress, talk, and mold it do all sorts of things to try to force this piece of dry, dead piece of hay into a shiny and sharpened tool with a purpose.

So, how's that working for you? It's not. If you continue on that path you will find you are spending too much time trying to transform pieces of hay into needles. (Note: I AM convinced and know that every piece of hay has the potential to become a needle. However, I cannot make that happen. That has to be the hay's decision.)

That is why it's so important to have a funnel of prospects coming to you and a good avenue is your social media networking skills. You have a good number of fistfuls of hay to talk to! And while the hay may only be hay (for the time being) it is important to have some "hay fertilizer".

The hay is blowing to your website and hay may not be ready to become a needle. But you need to have some other offers on your website to offer the hay. Other affiliate programs that offer hay some other choices.

Let's grab our pitchforks and toss some hay! It's time to find those needles!

Top 5 Positive Impacts of Indian Budget For Financial Year 2010

Reduction of Income Tax Slabs
Thrust on Education, Roads and Agriculture
Fiscal Deficit Reduction
Increase in growth
Formation of FDSC

Reduction of Income Tax Slabs: Since there is a reduction in income tax slabs it leaves the common man, the consumer with more money in hand to spend. So this budget is thought to be a refreshing change for both middle and lower income groups. But according to some of the people, it will help to negate the increasing inflation rate. Acc. to HDFC chairman, Deepak Parekh it is anticipated that reduction in food inflation will be taken care of by increased inflation in fuel, crude products and another round of increase in prices of fuel is also expected by him.

Thrust on Education, Roads and Agriculture: According to the Finance Minister, the main areas which will be focused this financial year are education, roads and agriculture. Increase in education is anticipated to be about 30%, that is an increase from 31,000 crore to a figure of 41,000 crore. Next focus will be on roads and an increase of 20% in the development is expected in the same that is an increase to a figure of 45-46000 crore. But agriculture, which has been the weakest link of our economy last fiscal year will also be focused by introduction of new policies.

Fiscal Deficit Reduction: This is the best part to cheer about as the government borrowings will be less this year. The fiscal deficit figure expected this year is 5.5% which seems to be an achievable target according to Deepak Parekh, chairman of HDFC. Acc. to him, there are many points in Indian Economy that if they are priced properly then these figures and also the figures anticipated for upcoming years that is, 4.8% can be easily achieved and even more. This will be mainly done with the help of disinvestment. And in the coming times it will be tax revenues which will more payable than sharp spending cuts to achieve the figures.

Increase in growth: There will be a good increase in growth about 8-8.5% this financial year, which is expected to be more in FY11. Rate hikes, would not dent the growth of Indian Economy.

Formation of FDSC: This new body will be a decision making body rather than a regulatory body like the previous bodies.Actually it was initially proposed by Rajiv Ram committee but came into formation now. Acc to HDFC chairman, Deepak Parekh who waive off the rumors surrounding this body coming into picture that it's just a coordinating body and won't dilute RBI's role in Indian Economy. He says there was a dire need of such a body as RBI's governor is not supposed to take decisions. Its name itself implies Stability as in Fiscal Development Stability Corporation. He says he is happy with its introduction as it will prove to be beneficial for the economy in a longer run.

Crafting Your Way to Profits - Four Realistic Ideas

Have you ever heard the phrase "Turn your passion into profit?" Is it really possible to do? Yes, it is! But honestly it's not easy and there's no quick fix or secret formula to get you from here to there.

If you like to be crafty, you've probably thought about selling your wares. Maybe others have told you that you could make some good money selling your handmade cards, jewelry, sewing projects or other things. Making the product is the easy part - what you do after that will determine whether you profit or not.

First, be realistic. Why not shoot for the stars when you're setting goals for yourself? There's nothing wrong with doing just that. What you need to do next is break down your lofty goal into smaller goals that are more achievable in the short term. This might mean that you further break down your already smaller goals!

Bottom line, you need goals that are measurable and achievable.

Second, think like a business person and not a crafter with a passion for their hobby. This is probably the most foreign concept to understand. Of course you are passionate about your products, but now you need to decide what they are worth AND what your time is worth. Remember that you are an expert in your craft and people will pay for your expertise when they purchase your product. This applies not only to finished products for sale, but also your services. Are you willing to teach a class or consult with clients? Don't forget that those are "products" as well.

Bottom line, you need to change your way of thinking from a passionate crafter to a passionate business person.

Third, hire a business coach. Unless you have an MBA, when you jump into any business you're going need help. Coaches not only encourage you, but are also objective in their advice. Calling a friend will not work. Objectivity is the key to a successful coaching relationship and your coach will cheer for your successes and motivate when you need it. If possible, find a coach who is familiar with your industry, you'll be that much further ahead!

Bottom line, investing in the services of a business coach will definitely pay off.

Last, work at your business every day! This doesn't mean making your products either. Work on marketing your products, implementing suggestions from your coach, contacting potential customers, and building partnerships with other businesses. Even if you only have one extra hour a day to do this, your consistency will pay off!

Bottom line, be consistent and put time into your business every day.

Unfortunately, there's no quick way to make money by selling your craft projects. The good news is that you CAN make extra money with your crafting, but it does take some learning, a lot of hard work, and consistency, and maybe a little bit of luck too!
