The Internet Marketing Dilemma

Whether you are promoting an actual network marketing opportunity or you are directly marketing yours or someone elses product or service, you face the same dilemma. You have to cut through what I call the "fog of war". The confusion that results from any valiant effort to break into the internet marketing business.

There is so much chaos in the form of constant promotion of network marketing opportunities or information products that are supposed to be the "new" holy grail of whatever it is they tell you to do. Automated scripts and programs that supposedly take all of the work out of building a dream income by automatically building unlimited sites and delivering a constant stream of unique content and deliver SEO services in the process. Really? These products actually represent hope. That is the real product hope. You buy them hoping that they will solve your marketing problems but they never do.

The truth is that believing in the sales pitches that come with these types of products is a natural result of attempting to learn the trade of online marketing without having a person or group of people to guide you through the fog.

If you wanted to learn to be a plumber, you would have to apprentice under an established plumber or get into a program that pairs you with experienced people because some things cannot be learned just by reading a book. Sometimes you need a group of people around you and available to answer seemingly simple question that are often critical to an inexperienced person's forward movement. In the online world it is very difficult to decipher among the people who are offering their services as online marketing mentors. It is not a question of honesty. It is a question of whether or not they are offering a training community or a set of text, audio and video training materials with no people there to fill in the holes.

Do not misunderstand me. There is some great training material out there and some great programs and scripts that help to automate an established business. But these are simply tools to be employed along the way. There is no substitute for getting in the trenches and learning your way around a C-panel. It's simpler than you think. Also learning how to build a capture page, work with an autoresponder, use Google analytics, etc.

Unfortunately for me the first few years I spent in online marketing were spent like a ping-pong ball trying to learn on my own, not believing in anyone in particular as a mentor. Not really getting much traction.

I was fortunate enough to have run into a particular person who I knew was in the trenches because I could see his stuff. He introduced me to his mentoring group and the rest is history,

It was a simple deal that he offered me. He asked me for a dollar. In return for that dollar he gave me a 14 day trial to the full GVO platform. In addition to that he gave me full access to the Inner circle Skype chat room as well as the Inner Circle Training Site. This meant 24 hour access to training on the site and a way to get questions answered by other members of the Inner circle. It also meant that I would have a full 2 weeks to evaluate the value of GVO and The Inner Circle.

For those of you who have not heard of GVO before, it is a platform that offers Unlimited Reseller Domain Hosting, a private video hosting platform, a private conference room, unlimited professional autoresponder lists, website monitoring software as well as a load of graphics, marketing materials and training videos. In short, everything an online marketer will need to effectively move forward. And they will pay you a hefty commission for anyone you refer to GVO.

The guy told me that I could use everything, try it out, even make money with it, but at the end of 14 days I would have to pay $44.95 monthly for the GVO Platform and the Inner Circle Membership would remain free. His offer knocked my socks off. It was a no brainer so I went for it.

They literally spoon fed me the information I needed to get my marketing funnel set up. Within a couple of days I had a working marketing funnel set up and running. By the time day 14 arrived I was scrambling to make sure I had the right credit card in place to pay for my first month with GVO. I didn't want to lose the GVO Platform but I also and importantly did not want to lose the valuable but free Inner Circle Membership.

If you are serious about online marketing, you need to find a system that is both economical and offers all of the tools you will need to function and most importantly you will need to search for a group that offers training and mentoring 24 hours a day.

Is Your Website a Worker Or a Slacker?

With ninety percent of adults using the internet for local search, it is critically important that your businesses have a website that is easily to find by local prospects. Here is a simple test you can run to determine if your website is a really a worker, or just a slacker.

First some definitions: by "worker" I mean a website that reaches out to your prospects, presenting your products and/or services to the communities you target. A "slacker" website is one who may look good, is there when you go looking for it, but never seems to produce the results you expected.

I run this test everyday for companies that we invite into our Trusted 411 Marketing Alliance, and to be honest, it produces disappointing results most of the time. Business owners are rarely good webmasters so they farm it out and often forget about it, believing that just having a website is good enough. As we improve their search results they come to appreciate how powerful the internet can be at making the phone ring and their doors swing, even in this slow economy. The test results create a valuable baseline and clearly identifies what areas of your internet presence need to be improved.

Google is so dominating in local search we'll start there, but later you can run this same test with Yahoo, Bing and any other search engine you come across. Your ultimate goal is to be in the top three organic (not paid) listings but that can a difficult achievement, so if you find yourself in the top six, or even on page one of your search results, feel free to pat yourself on the back. We start with a simple form that tracks your searches and results. Using your word processor create the following document: start with your list of keywords, those words or phrases that consumers might use to search for your business. Number them, 1 through whatever. Now make a list of the communities/cities/towns that you want to draw from and number them as well. Below these lists add the following, and insert your company name where indicated.

Search for (your company name)... circle results:.... Google page.. 1,.. 2,.. 3,.. ____.. not found

Search for (your company name your city)... circle results:.... Google page.. 1,.. 2,.. 3,.. ____.. not found

Search for: keyword1... city1... circle results:.... Google page..1,.. 2,.. 3,.. ____.. not found

Search for: keyword1... city2... circle results:.... Google page..1,.. 2,.. 3,.. ____.. not found

Search for: keyword1... city3... circle results:.... Google page..1,.. 2,.. 3,.. ____.. not found

        continue adding these lines until you have enough to include all your cities

Search for: keyword2... city1... circle results:.... Google page..1,.. 2,.. 3,.. ____.. not found

Search for: keyword2... city2... circle results:.... Google page..1,.. 2,.. 3,.. ____.. not found

Search for: keyword2... city3... circle results:.... Google page..1,.. 2,.. 3,.. ____.. not found

        continue adding these lines until you have enough to include all your cities

See where we're going? Each block of searches combines one keyword with each of your communities. Continue this process with keyword3, keyword4, etc. until all your keywords are included.

Now, using your word processor, conduct a "find and replace", substituting your first keyword from your list for the term "keyword1", your second keyword for "keyword2" etc. Then find and replace all your "city1" with the first city on your list and continue with "city2" etc. until all your communities are accounted for. Print out your list and with pen in hand go to rel=nofollow http://www.google.com and conduct your searches line by line. Only count your own website, not a directory or list that links to your site.

The first two searches are like looking for yourself in the phone book's white pages. These are for people who already know your business name. How did you fare? On the company name and city search you should have been found in the top position. The keyword and city searches are like internet yellow pages. These results are the ones that really count. Once again you want to be found in the top three, but on the first page is OK. Page two is not good, page three is bad and after that it's almost useless. The only reason to continue looking past page three is to see if your site shows up at all and so you can document your progress later.

In the margins you might want to note the web addresses of your competitors who are beating you in the rankings. This will be important to creating your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) plan as it help to know just how strong you have to be to beat them.

If you are happy with the results of all your searches, congratulate yourself and your webmaster. If you are in the majority and see plenty of room for improvement then you need to sit down with your webmaster and make SEO a priority.

Have you heard of this guy, Daegan Smith? He calls himself "The King Of Never Calling A Single Lead".

After my research, I have to answer that question with a resounding "NO"! As with any internet marketing "Guru", you will see a ton of negative press. It's no different with Daegan Smith. I am not a member of his Inner Circle, but am investigating it for myself, so I thought I would provide you with a thorough and unbiased review of my findings regarding Daegan Smith and Maximum Leverage to determine if it's another internet scam or worth investing in.

What Is Maximum Leverage?

Daegan Smith's business is Maximum Leverage, an internet marketing training site for network marketers that he launched back in October 2009. His membership has been growing, with very few drop-outs, which is a positive sign.

He also shows a lot of video proof of his success, which indicates that he's being honest about his success. He's been an online marketer for 6 years and has made enough money working online to recently relocate to Maui from the Washington, DC area. I have to admit I'm jealous but being able to relocate to Maui is a good goal for the rest of us!

Maximum Leverage is all about teaching internet network marketers how to generate leads. Internet marketing is all about generating leads and there are many sites and systems that teach and help network marketers to do this.

What makes Maximum Leverage Different?

My answer to this question is Deagan's presentation style, which is very down to earth and easy to follow, along with his transparency with his business. I have attended a few webinars that he's put on for free and always walk away learning something new. Daegan opens up his business and shows attendees exactly how he generates leads (and he generates a lot of them!). This makes following along and understanding how to implement a new strategy very easy. The value provided, especially for free, is ridiculous.
