What difference does a date make? Well in the fundraising world, it can make or break you! Keeping your eye on the calendar is an important factor for a successful direct sales fundraising event.

Making sure that all dates are taken into account is critical for set up, execution and completion through delivery. Look for Holidays, especially school holidays when there maybe no actual holiday, but the school is closed. How are these holidays going to affect your turn in date? Look at your shipping date as well as the date you need to turn in your orders to have then back by the requested delivery date. Don't forget your packing time, should you be the one sorting and packing. You need to take these all in to account

Another date you need to be aware of is other functions that are going on around town. Are there other schools doing fundraisers? What about sports teams? Can you compete with your products? Are the products the same? Be flexible if necessary. You need a date that is clear of other fundraisers. Remember most parents have other kids and that means other functions and fundraisers to sell for. Be mindful of activities around town. Here is an example of something that happened to me.

I was working a large fundraiser that consisted of a Prime Rib dinner, Silent Auction and other activities at night. This fundraiser would serve over 300 people. Our date was set and the planning was moving forward. We then started hearing things about other fundraisers at the exact same time as ours. These other fundraisers consisted of Crab and Lobster feeds. The groups that were putting these on are in direct competition with our event. Could I have a successful event at $25 a ticket? Would someone choose crab or lobster in season over Prime Rib that could be held any time? I think the answer was Yes. So, we elected to move our date out a month so that we could sell our tickets easily and have a bigger turn out. In retrospect, was this a good decision? Absolutely! In fact we kept the date at the later time for the next year's event because it worked out better for it.

What's the moral of the story? Be flexible even if it may cause some extra work. It will pay off for you in one way or another! It can be the difference between having good fundraising results or having great fundraising results. I know which one I would like to have.

Because life is full of unplanned things, writing a few extra posts to keep in reserve is a good pattern. You can use the business practice of FIFO, first in, first out, to keep your posts up-to-date while still keeping a few posts in reserve. You could also write posts that will be basically timeless so when they get used will not matter.

What do I need to do when the unexpected happens?

When your expected or unexpected emergency happens you can feel confident knowing you have posts and information ready to go. Rather than trying to rush out an update, you can make some minor changes to a post to update your readers. You can then go through your drafts and schedule them for your standard post interval, be that a post every few days or once a week.

Why Do You Need a Plan in MLM?

I used to think the only reason an entrepreneur would need a business plan is to prove to investors that they can actually make money. In MLM we have no investors, so why do we need a plan?

Plans help you achieve goals. Now, goal setting is something I also resisted for a long time. The reason is that in my corporate life, someone else was always setting goals for me, without my input! Has that happened to you? It is very frustrating! I struggled to write plans to meet someone else's goals.

In MLM however, nobody else is setting goals for you. There are incentives of course, but it is your choice whether to strive for each incentive. Did you start a business to make money though? If so, you obviously do have goals, you just need to put them in writing.

You have probably heard that goals need to be SMART:

Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic (fits your life)
Timely

If your goals are not attainable and realistic you are setting yourself up for failure. If they are not measurable you won't know when you reach them. Making them specific and timely is necessary for you to create the plan to achieve them.

Some people hesitate to set a date for a goal. They say it puts too much pressure on them. I felt that way myself, but only because I was accustomed to other people setting the date. When you set the date yourself, it's a good kind of pressure. The only thing that stops you from setting a date is fear of failure. And we need to overcome that with positive thinking and self development.

Once you have a date, and a very specific goal, you write down the actions you will need to take to attain that goal. Work backwards from the date and figure out when each steps needs to be completed.

For example, let's say your goal is to reach the next "pin level" in your company in 3 months.

How many people do you need to sponsor each week for 12 weeks?
How many people do you need to connect with to make that happen?
How will you connect with that many people?

Once you know how many contacts you need to make and how you will do that, you can get busy and get into massive action, but it will be focused action.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is to get scattered in their activities. They try to get every marketing method they know of going at the same time, and don't concentrate on getting really good at one thing. Or they lose track of time doing one activity so they never get to the next one. Having a plan will help you stay focused on the activities that are really important for producing results, and not forget anything.

The amazing thing about writing down goals and plans is that it really does make them happen. You are telling the universe what your intention is. And if you need to change your goal it's fine. Everything is a learning experience. So plan your work and work your plan!

MLM Success - You Cannot Expect a 5 Star Dish With Out-of-Date Ingredients

I can say with confidence that we have all experienced some top quality dishes at one point or another and they are to be savored?

On the other side, we have probably all experienced dishes that fell well short of the mark with some of them possibly containing out of date ingredients well past their use by date.

The consequences of out of date ingredients are not good. They can kill the dish and worse still can be extremely harmful to your own health.

I do not think that anyone would disagree with the fact that ingredients past their used by date are no good for you.

Why is it then that so many people continue to use out of date marketing initiatives in the development of their own business.

It might not be a yummy cake or a succulent chicken dish but the ingredients that go into your business will determine the end result just like your 5 star dish. I've had numerous conversations over the last few days and the questions have all revolved around whats needed to be done to be successful in their MLM. After countless questions, it was evident that attitude was not the concern. What was blatantly clear however was that the marketing initiatives equaled little more than force feeding friends, cornering family and the frenzied placement of classified advertisements. My hat goes off to anyone and they get an A+ for effort and attitude. The missing ingredients were leadership and the ability to market or in fact.... even what to market.

Just like out of date cream...

The promotion of product and company as your major initiative is simply inviting a less than satisfactory result. As recent as yesterday I was receiving invitations to join the best opportunity available online with the best compensation plan and the best leaders you could ever hope for.

Would you believe it? All 5 advertisements said exactly the same thing and they are all from different people peddling different products.

My question is the same as everyone should be asking. What makes your opportunity any different to any of the others? The usual answer is the quality of the product, the start up chance, the huge pay out plan, the awesome leaders and the very little work for massive results.... If only I had a dollar for every sales pitch like this one! Sorry, but reality tells me you cannot all be the best so who do I believe?

This may come as a shock to some of you but your product, compensation plan or even your company has little bearing on whether or not my interest has been peaked enough to look.!!

People will join YOU... not your company, not your product or your services. It's all about YOU
