Working At Home - Doggy Day Care!

I have a customer who provides dog walking services as her business venture. It is actually a model that many people could follow if they also wanted to run their own business from home, however, there are a few considerations.

Doggy Day Care
Rather than just dog walking, maybe dress the idea up a little as "Doggy Day Care". Dog walking makes it sound as though the owner is lazy, whereas Day Care implies they are active and busy people. You are, after all, aiming your services at business people and those that are out all day.

Your audience
As I have said a main audience for you will be those people who are out all day and worried about the welfare of their canine friends. Those commuting for an hour or so each way and spending a full day in an office can be leaving their pets for a long time. They are also the people likely to have the disposable income to pay for your time.

Your offering
A dog owner that is out for 10 - 12 hours each day might just need someone to pop in most days and see that the dog is well. The visit does not need to be the exact same time each day and you can probably be flexible with how long you are there for. Maybe good long visits most days, but a shorter visit when needs must.

Even just going in to the house or flat and changing the pet's water, maybe allowing them out into the garden to relieve themselves and giving the dog a fuss and a bit of attention is probably all that the owner needs to ease their mind.

What to consider
Obviously, you are going to be letting yourself into strangers' houses whilst they are out and letting their best friend run free in the garden. You might prefer to walk the dog on a lead around the garden, just in case there's a gate open somewhere. Or a short walk around the block might be more enjoyable for you.

And it is very important to reassure the owner that you are trustworthy. Testimonials and references from other people saying you are trustworthy will go a long way and if you can get a copy of your CRB (or whatever your country uses to show that you are free from a criminal record) it might just reassure people.

Finding the work
Because of the level of trust it is probably well worth starting with friends of friends and so on. Spread the word through word of mouth rather than traditional advertising until you get going.

Home Working As A Dog Walker

For whatever reason there are many dog owners that just cannot give their pets the time that they need in the week for a healthy amount of walking. From the owner being infirm to a full time job and commuting, lots of distractions can prevent the loving dog owner from giving their pet the time that they need.

The solution
This is where you can provide the solution that the owner desperately needs - you can take the dog out for a good walk in the day time, exercise the dog and take care of him for the owner. This way the owner knows that they canine friend is being well looked after and is not sat at home frustrated and wrecking the place.

Your considerations
Obviously, you will need to collect the pet from the owner's house and take him or her to a suitable walking environment, such as a dog friendly park. This is going to require transport of some form, for example an estate car or a van. Assuming you already own the transport, you will need to tell your insurance company what your intentions are in case one of the dogs in your care damages the car or you are involved in an accident on the way to or from a walk.

You might also want to look at indemnity insurance in case anything happens to a dog in your care. Unlikely, but it could happen that a dog is dog-knapped in your care or runs off or just gets hurt. Your insurance would cover you in this case.

Advertising your home business
Assuming that you live in a commuter zone and most of your customers will be commuters, there is little point putting up adverts in local offices. However, distributing leaflets at railway stations might get people on their way to and from work. Likewise, ask your local vets if they could put up a poster for you advertising what you are doing. They might charge you a little for this, but they are also a focal point for many dog owners and also where many dog owners would go to in order to find such a service.

Keeping records
As with any home business, it is time to keep records and you must keep plenty! Keep a note of your costs, including advertising and extra insurances, plus also note your mileage to reclaim that. And, of course, you need to be recording your weekly income and noting who owes you money!

Newsletter Publishing As a Home Based Business

Newsletters are just like magazines but not as long. A newsletter is anywhere from one to eight pages in length in an 8.5 x 11 inch format. If you can type, you can create a newsletter.

The primary mission for the newsletter publisher is discovering and satisfying the information needs of their niche. For example, if your newsletter is about dogs, you may want to write about fun places to go and cool stuff to do with your dog. Include information that helps your dog's health and any information you can dig up about a certain breed of dogs.

When choosing a niche, choose something you know quite a bit about. It's hard to write about something that you don't know.

Subscription Newsletters

Earnings from a subscription newsletter come in whole or in part from subscriptions paid by readers. To boost income, some subscription newsletters sell advertising too. Some also sell products and services.

Advertising Supported Newsletters

Advertising supported newsletters are distributed free of charge to readers the advertisers want to reach. For example, a newsletter is produced for a health club and it is entirely supported by advertisers who offer products and services to health conscience people. The publisher must build up a large enough reader list that the publication becomes attractive enough to advertisers to underwrite the publication costs and the publishers fee for writing and distributing the newsletter.

Contracting to Produce Newsletters for Others

Many companies could benefit from having a newsletter but don't have the time, resources or know-how to publish their own. You can offer to publish one for them. You may write and produce the entire newsletter for your clients, including contracting with the printer and maintaining the mailing list for the distribution of the newsletter. Or you may do whatever portions of the process a client needs.

Creating Newsletters Used by Multiple Clients

You can write a standard monthly newsletter usable by the same type of client, such as accountants, dentists, doctors, veterinarians or insurance agents. Customize the first page with a message from the client and a photograph plus any other custom touches he or she may wish.

Newsletter publishers usually bill clients either a flat fee per issue or charge based on an hourly rate, but either way, each of the services performed should be priced separately.

Dog Grooming Training for You

It is good that you have decided to be a professional dog groomer. Based on the information given by U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the need for pet groomers is anticipated to rise 22% from now to 2012. According to another report on the pet industry, Americans spent more than $35 billion on pet related supplies and services in 2005. The figure is forecast to be around $37 billion in 2006 and should be over $43 billion by 2011.

To start with this career path, you will need to know that there are many tasks eg shampooing, bathing, blow drying, shaving, nail clipping etc and there are numerous means where you can get to learn all these trades. Training schools provides us with a good environment to be systematically trained and coached by live instructors. We can also connect with people who share similar objective and learn from each other. However, do note that these dog grooming courses come with a hefty price tag which might not be affordable. Also, some courses might not be available in your region and you will need to travel to attend them. The time schedule set by the school might also not fit into your schedule as well.

If training is not possible in a school due to the reasons above, you can always look out for home study courses. This tends to be much cheaper than going to schools and the good thing is that you will not break a leg or an arm in the later event that you discover that dog grooming isn't what you have originally expected. The amount vested on the skills and knowledge will not be wasted as you can now do grooming for your dog which will save you a lot of money down the road. However, do take to check carefully on their substance and quality as they vary vastly.

From my knowledge, at the time of writing, there is no certification or licensing requirement to be a dog groomer. The certification merely increases your credibility and set yourself apart from the others. You can also possibly command for a higher price in terms of your services rendered by being certified.

Learn How to Find a Niche

Getting started in your own online business can be quite challenging and one of the things that every internet marketer needs to know is how to find a niche. There are many different ways you can go about finding your niche. In this article you will learn a couple of ways you can do that.

One of the best niches to write about is one that you are passionate about. What is it that you really love? What is your hobby? What would you do for free if you didn't have bills to pay? That is a good niche. What are you very knowledgeable about? For me I am a health nut. I could talk your ear off and show you ways to be healthier. My other niche is Internet Marketing. I've been studying that for a couple of years now and my friends are having a hard time understanding me when I talk to them about my internet marketing business.. What really cool is I have an Internet Marketing neighbor and it's so fun to talk to him cause we understand what each other is talking about.

Another way on how to find a niche is to go to Google trends. There you will see what the top searches are. You can also go to DMOZ.com. There are so many topics there that it will give you ideas on what product or service to promote. When you learn how to find a niche you will be on your way to the first steps of success in your internet marketing business.

Think about things people need. Especially in these times; people need to know how they can save money, how to make extra money from home on the computer, even side jobs. The most important thing is to stay focused on one thing at a time.

Let's say you want to work in the Dog niche. Do you want to work in the dog training niche? Keep your dog healthy niche? Dog tricks? Dog grooming? You see, if you sit down and just focus you'll come up with so many ideas. The trick here is to just pick one. This is how to find a niche and you can do this with any topic.

The next thing you will want to do is to go to Google and do a search. For example "dog grooming + affiliate program. I went and did a search and there was 253,000 results. In those results you should be able to find a program that works for you. You can actually go deeper in your results. Would you like to promote and sell dog grooming tools, like brushes, clippers and shampoos or would you like to promote dog grooming training.

You could go to any of the major affiliate networks like ClickBank and Commission Junction and see what they have on dog grooming. There you can find a number of products you can promote.

Once you learn how to find a niche, the next thing you would want to do is promote your niche. Now there are many different ways to do this. It depends on what your budget is. Pay per click is the fast track way to traffic and making money, if you have the funds available. If you have a small to zero budget then you could promote the products for free by writing articles or having a blog. You are going to have to look like an expert in your field and offer your traffic quality content on your website. That will separate you from the rest and keep people coming back to your website.

How to find a niche is one of the things that every Internet Marketer needs to know.

How to Get Out of Your Own Way and Make Money Online

There's only one word that can accurately sum up this article, only one word that should stick with you long after you've read it: Motivation. It's a serious problem for any entrepreneur or self employed businessman and, like any problem, it should be addressed. Everyone needs someone to hold them accountable. It's an unfortunate fallacy of the human race. For someone trying to make money online, that person needs to be none other than themselves. Procrastination is the worst sin an internet marketer can make. It's a dog eat dog digital world, and if you're not actively pursuing your dream, chances are there's someone else out there who is.

There are several steps to treating what I'm going to call "The Problem of Motivation."

Step 1: Recognize the Problem

Self denial is worse problem even than motivation. Do yourself a favor and admit to yourself that you are the only reason for your lack of success. When something goes wrong, you are the only person to blame for it. Ask yourself some of these simple questions and try to give yourself an honest answer.

"Why am I putting this off?"

"What are the things I'm doing when I'm not working?"

"Is this the goal that I really want to achieve?"

Step 2: Plan for a solution

Start by organizing a checklist for yourself. Give yourself small, achievable goals. As you complete each goal mark it off the checklist; cross it out with a big red marker if you want. This gives you visual confirmation of the progress you're making. Expect obstacles and plan how you will overcome them ahead of time. A method that works for me is hanging a large whiteboard in my kitchen. At the beginning of every week I put on it my goals for that week. As I complete each goal I draw a line through it.

Step 3: GET TO WORK!

Put these plans into action. Implement them every minute of every day. Constantly ask yourself "How is the helping me achieve success?" Chances are it won't be. Don't be afraid to take risks or put yourself in situations you're not comfortable in.

Step 4: Reward yourself

I don't want you to get the wrong idea; making money on the internet is not all pain and sacrifice. You need to reward yourself for the little successes the same way you need to punish yourself for procrastinating. Every time you check a completed task off your list, give yourself your own personal version of a pat on the back. If done right, with a little sacrifice and a lot of work, you will be able to achieve the greatest reward of all: financial independence.

Download Lists of Data For Building Drop Down Menus, Lists of Countries to Makes of Cars Etc

Downloadable data lists are invaluable to website designers.

If you are a website designer you'll probably be familiar with the following example of the problematic issue of obtaining lists of data to use in a handy, downloadable format.

Let's imagine that your client approaches you to create a community website for, let's say, a dog owners' club. In this online community, the owners offer mutual time swapping dog-sitting and feeding services to nearby co-members on a mutual no-cost basis.

When a dog owner creates his or her profile, there is likely to be a requirement for a drop-down list or menu, enabling the website visitor to choose from a menu, probably coded thus: example dog breed , another dog breed , and so on.

So, you'd think it would be easy enough to obtain a list of popular dog breeds to create a list for either an SQL database or a simple option tagged list, huh? Think again! Just try if for yourself. Google-up "list of popular dog breeds". You'll find lots of information about dog breeds, not least from Wikipedia and other excellent resources, but there's a whole lot of work involved in creating a usable list from a bunch of hyperlinks on a page.

First you've got to check whether the list is up-to-date and relevant. How? By Googling-up every entry on your list to check its authenticity? Then you'll need to strip out all the hyperlinks, images and all the other trash you don't need to copy into a spreadsheet program to remove duplicates and list everything in its desired order.

This all takes time, and as any designer knows, time is money.

Instead, wouldn't it be nice to find a website where can you use an affordable one-click solution, to download an alphabetically-sorted list of places / items / cars / countries / dog breeds or whatever, ready to copy and paste, right out of the box? Well, the good news is that it's right here (see resource below).

This 'list of lists' website is growing every week, and although still in its infancy, the site is already carrying over 20 lists from airlines through to occupations. The lists are regularly reviewed and updated in response to customer queries and by this time next year there should be several hundred data lists ready to download in varying formats. The site's owners also offer a bespoke list-building service in response to specific queries, which can be surprisingly affordable.

Prices of downloadable data lists from the site vary from US$ 5.00 for really basic lists to ten times that amount for a list containing thousands of entries. There's an RSS feed too, so designers can be kept up to date with any lists that they might need to know about on an ongoing basis. http://www.dropdownlistdata.co.uk
