Empty Nester Mom Do You Feel You Missed the Boat?

Empty nesters and baby boomers often feel they have missed the boat when it comes to online marketing, blogging, and using the internet to build a business.

As an empty nester mom have you been wondering why you didn't do something earlier to take care of your own retirement or to have the money to travel or be independent?

Lately, I've been reminiscing about the past; wishing I was more like some of these young thirty something year olds and taken care of my financial future a lot sooner. These young internet gurus seem to have it altogether when it comes to creating their own income online.

Recently, when I was in town I followed a young mom up some stairs in an office building. She had four toddlers with her. Their legs were barely long enough to step up to the next step. They were all very adorable. This incident reminded me of two things:

1. Yes, I loved those days when my children were little. I enjoyed taking them out and about. Part of me misses those days of having the purpose to nurture and guide my kids.

2. It also reminded me of why I didn't take the time to build a business back then. I poured my heart and soul into my kids. My focus then was totally my kids and then as they grew I started teaching part time.

Like you, I could have made different choices. However, I did what I did and now it is time to do something else.

If you are thinking it is too late or you're too old or you don't know much about computers, then give your head a shake and start learning today.

You have a lot of experiences, wisdom, and skills to share and to profit from. One of the best ways is to start blogging. Don't let the wind out of your sails over the word blogging. I know the feeling just when you want to go ahead the first road block is a word you don't understand.

Blogging when done correctly can give you a good online presence where you can truly build a business through effective online marketing.

Quite naturally this will be a learning curve for you, as it has been for me. But if you don't start now where will you be in ten years?
Technology won't wait for you and it won't get any easier than it is right now.

Remember when your kids were little and they started taking baby steps? They didn't learn to walk in a day. It took time to learn to walk and then hop, skip, and run.

Apply the same mindset to learning about:
 Blogging
 Online marketing
 Creating a video

Get in the game by learning new skills, sharing your passion, connecting with others and nurturing a whole new chapter in your life. Enjoy!

MLM Online Strategies - Best Practice Number Seven of Seven

I have outlined seven best practice strategies for getting your business up and running online. Here is number seven. (The first six are published on EzineArticles.)

Many of the online business builders are empty nesters like me. People who have built offline businesses, retired from successful careers, and/or quit corporate jobs. They understand the potential of a global internet business from home.

They are fully committed to creating wealth and will do whatever it takes as long as it's legal, moral and ethical.

The number seven best practice is about providing attractive content versus spreading spam.

I have found, working with other empty nester baby boomers, that working hard, providing value, and helping others is an integral value that comes from growing up after World War II. We have grown up with stories from our parents about the "dirty thirties". We've seen many people build businesses from absolutely nothing. We've grown up with a hard work ethic.

The more people I talk to the more I realize that people truly want to earn money so they can make a difference in the world. They have a big vision.

Although number seven best practice is about staying away from spam content and creating valuable content. The empty nester baby boomer group needs encouragement in the opposite direction. Often they are hesitant to share experiences and life lessons that they have to offer. They are fearful that they might be spamming people when, in fact, they are not.

They understand spam as being the same as the pushy door to door salesperson they encountered many times when they were growing up. Some door to door sellers would actually stick their feet or heads in the doorway so that the door could not be shut!

Spam is a new word for bad practices on the internet. It is not a new concept.

We all grew up with the salesperson following us around the store like a hawk. We don't want to use those tactics. Spam is pestering people with information that they have not asked for.

People in this age group need to let go and express their feelings, talk about their experiences and by doing this will automatically be giving value.
Empty nesters now have an opportunity to build an online business with the same hard work ethic they grew up with, but in a much shorter time frame.

Take advantage of all that the internet has to offer. Share your knowledge and experience and build an online business.

Go for it!

How Do You Decide Which Emails to Open?

When I was in my mid-twenties and in my second job working as Personal Assistant in a large retail jewellery company, I shared an office with the Personnel Manager. Every morning I'd come in and see my desk - empty of files, tidy, a clear space. And then I'd look across to his part of the room and see piles of files, some of them a good half metre high. Not only on his desk, but on the floor surrounding the desk. He was left with a little gap in the middle in which to work on immediate things. Horrible!

I'm reminded of him because I've just emerged from the modern-day equivalent - a heaving inbox full of both answered and unanswered emails (in both my email accounts!). Yes, it's a bit embarrassing, but I remembered this experience from earlier because when my inbox even just shows white space at the bottom, I have the equivalent of the clear and empty desk I used to have all those years ago.

It is always my intention to have at least clear white space - but it doesn't always happen. Despite plenty of articles about how to manage your inboxes, I don't always do it. However, I've learnt a few tips about how to manage your inboxes and I share them below, because I know I'm not the only one out there struggling under the weight of an overflowing inbox!

1. Check your emails a maximum of 3 times per day only. Once or twice is even better. It is very rare that if an email isn't answered within 12 hours that it will be a disaster.

2. If you're not doing this, investigate why and let go. Don't just carry on regardless. Just writing this I have realised that I easily fall into checking emails more than this, and it stems from being at boarding school and feeling desperate for letters from home. I'll work on this now and report back!

3. Archive your emails. Set up folders for them, and sub-folders within those. Keep on top of this by archiving by the end of every day.

4. Use the 4 D's model: Delete, Do, Delegate, Defer. I'll write about this in more detail in another article, but using these categories to make decisions about your emails will help you immediately to manage and archive them.

5. Determine what for you is an 'empty desk' and aim to always have that. For me, just having white space in my inbox is enough. For others, an empty inbox will be important. Find what is your ideal and stick to it.

6. Only look at your emails once. That means allocating a time to look at them which allows enough time for replies. Open each one and action it according to Point 4.

7. Remember to delete or file emails after you have answered them.

8. Use a filing system that tells you what is important or not. The last thing you want is to have an inbox full of emails, some of which have been answered and some not - too easy to lose important ones in the muddle.

9. Find your clutter comfort level. Visualise an empty desk. Notice how that makes you feel. If you like the feeling, then transfer this to an empty inbox, and take the steps above to help you keep it empty. If you don't like the feeling, then find out what you need to have on that 'empty desk' and have that in your inbox. Some people find they like the reassurance of a (small) pile of things to be done on their desk. You can have the equivalent in your inbox.

10. Make a note you've sent something in the first place if you really want a reply. If you don't receive one, you'll want to follow up and you won't be able to if you've forgotten you ever sent it!

Finally here's a story to inspire you. Robert Holden, founder of the Happiness Project, and author of Success Intelligence, told me once that he had gone on holiday to Hawaii only to find that for two weeks he was going to be without an internet connection. Disaster! He returned home to find 1000 emails in his inbox. The interesting thing about this was that not one - yes, not one - person had got in touch when they discovered that he hadn't replied to them. Sobering eh? So take your emails lightly. Remember it wasn't so long ago when we didn't have them at all and the world didn't stop, did it?

(This whole article works very well - when it does. What did I do when I finished it? Checked my emails!!! I've just got to laugh at myself sometimes!)

The Empty Nester Makes Money Online - But, What Should You Sell Online?

I am "The Empty Nester Makes Money". I am not the first empty nester nor am I the only empty nester. I am just a stay at home mom of 3 who woke up one day - as her youngest was going off to college - and thought "what do I want to be when I grow up"? I knew that I wanted to make money to start a retirement account, to travel and just enjoy life. But, I had no idea how I wanted to make money. Since I had been a stay at home for over 20 years - I knew that I wouldn't be able to step back into my sales career. So, I started researching all the options out there to make money. After extensive research, I decided that I wanted to make money online.

Once you have decided you want to make money online and you have decided that you want to sell something to make money - the question becomes "what should you sell online"? When you go onto the internet - you will find every type of product available to purchase there. You can buy lotions, potions and pills. You can buy things to wear, things to eat and things for your amusement. Any gadget you can think of - you will probably find somewhere to buy it online. So, with all those choices - how are you ever going to decide exactly what you should sell?

One of the easiest things to sell online is informational products. And it is a great product to get started with. The main reason that it is so easy is because informational products are digital products. Which means that as soon as your buyer has paid for the product - they can download it straight to their computer. You don't have to worry about keeping inventory around and you don't have to worry about shipping the product to your buyer.

Do you have an informational product of your own that you could sell? Have you written an ebook on a topic that you are passionate about? If you don't have a product - that is fine - but you will need to find one to sell. You can do a Google search on either "private label rights" or "resell rights" on a subject that you are passionate about and see what is available. You can acquire the rights to these products and sell them - sometimes you can even put your name on them as the author. And usually it is not very expensive to acquire these rights.

You can also become an affiliate for a company and market their product and get a commission for selling that product. Two of the biggest affiliate companies are ClickBank and PayDotCom. For each of these companies, you sign up an affiliate and go through the products they have and choose one to sell online. You will notice that each product offers a different commission. You will want to choose a product that at least offers 50% commission - and actually closer to 75% would be ideal.

At ClickBank they give their products a "gravity rating" - that is a rating that shows what products are the best sellers on ClickBank. Obviously, you want to choose a product that is "hot" right now - that people are really buying - but you need to be careful and not choose a product that is being sold so much that is has saturated the market. So - ideally you are looking for a product that has a gravity rating of about 84%. You will also want to look at the website and marketing pieces available. See what you think - do you think the website is compelling? If you don't like it - your buyers won't either.

Why sell information products? They are relatively easy to create, fast to bring to market, easy and quick to distribute and very profitable. And if you don't have your own product - creating one or finding one to market is easier than you think. And in this "information age" people are anxious to get as much information on topics of interest to them. And you can take advantage of this by being "at the right place with the right product".

Cherry Lyngaas is "The Empty Nester". Why Do Some Empty Nester Moms Resist Change?

Did you know that we are genetically programmed to resist change? We are programmed to maintain a state of equilibrium.

Our ancestors survived because of a condition called homeostasis, a condition that evolved naturally over time as a means to survive constantly changing conditions.

It developed over time to fulfill our need for stability and security. The problem is even when great opportunities come along it still resists the change. It doesn't distinguish between good and bad change.

The "empty nest" time of life is a time of change. Empty nester moms are choosing to embrace the change to create businesses from home. Yet when they get started they find there are hurdles to get over. And this natural resistance to change tends to hold them back. Some decide they don't want to move out of their comfort zone. They decide the change is not worth the effort.

For example:

Annabelle, an empty nester mom, who decided to learn how to build her business online found that before long she felt overwhelmed, behind, lost, and confused. These feelings were actually part of her natural resistance to change.

How did all her great ideas dissolve into these frustrating feelings?

Well, for Annabelle, it happened like this:

First, she decided to work from home and build an online business. Next she checked out online offers, network marketing companies and businesses in a box. Then she chose the business and program she wanted to build. After working at it for awhile she felt lost and confused because it was getting harder to understand and the results she wanted were not happening.

So she went back to searching online for the next secret to online success. She bought another set of business videos and signed up for more newsletters and information.

Before long she had so many emails arriving every day from so many different sources she didn't know what to do with them all and wasted a lot of time going through them.

She was spinning her wheels going nowhere fast!! Finding it hard to adopt new habits, learn a new skill and cultivate a new attitude.

Back to homeostasis for a moment and the good news/bad news side of change.

Although Annabelle, like the rest of us, is genetically programmed to resist change and maintain a state of equilibrium. The good news is that the homeostats can be reset and change embraced. The bad news is the process of change always bring stress, pain and a certain amount of fear.

The antidote to fear is knowledge. Don't get lazy about learning. Be a life long learner. Without change there is no growth.

Education is the key to becoming effective and being successful. How can you possibly do it right if you don't know how?

Here are five tips to guide you over the process of change:

1. Open your email once a day. Choose a time (morning, noon, or night) and stick to it.

2. Delete or unsubscribe to emails that you know you will never get to. Choose the ones you find valuable and get rid of the rest.

3. Question yourself in everything you do: Is this activity helping me to get results?

4. Make a plan and stick to your plan. You can certainly make adjustments along the way, but take the time to organize, track and plan your business.

5. Educate yourself, become an expert in one thing at a time. Don't get sidetracked by all the "shiny new offers".

Think for your self, don't compare yourself to others and most of all enjoy the journey.

Empty Nester Moms Create Businesses Online - Find Out How

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between a doctor that makes it "big" on TV and your own family doctor? I have been thinking about this for some time now. I have come to the conclusion that the TV doctor knows about marketing funnels and your family doctor does not!

The average every day family doctor knows as much or more than the TV doctor. However, the TV doctor has worked on promoting his knowledge and sharing it with others. The family doctor in your town, or mine, is not marketing him or herself and not marketing his/her knowledge. In other words, not building a marketing funnel.

Why could this information be important to you? Well, think about it. The big name TV doctor has been able to use other people's shows and now his own show to build his name. To brand himself as the "Go To" doctor for every day health information and solutions.

Now granted going on television and finding sponsors is a monumental task for many of us. But, what if you could brand yourself as an expert in your field of interest for little to zero cost? And in the process build your own marketing funnel?

Have you ever watched a video on YouTube? You can develop your own channel for free on YouTube. Then create and post your own: "shows" in your field of interest.

Empty nester moms are in a great position to build an online business. As an empty nester mom you have lots of real life experience, you've done many different jobs, both paid and unpaid, and you now have time to be creative and do your own thing!! So go for it! You can be the "Go To" mom in any area of your choice!

Wow! Do you see how exciting and powerful building your own marketing funnel that leads to your channel can be? T.V. and/or video is not the only way to build your marketing funnel. Have you ever read a regular column in a popular newspaper or magazine? Having a blog is similar to having your own regular column in a newspaper or magazine.

Guess what! It's free and available for your readers to read 24/7 365 days a year! I really understood the power of the internet and how it has changed the rules of sales and marketing forever after I read the Attraction Marketers Manifesto.

Pages 32 - 34 explains how the power of becoming an expert can trigger a sales explosion as you can go from anonymous to authority practically overnight by simply sharing valuable ideas. [http://www.mindfulmarketingtoday.com]Attraction Marketers
