What is an Evergreen Product?

The distinction that is an evergreen product, is not a new expression. It is, however, come into more frequent use lately. In Internet marketing circles, an evergreen product is basically a product that can be promoted over and over again for an indefinite period of time. If the information is not likely to change, now or in the future, then your information product can be said to be evergreen.

What do I mean by that? There are some concepts that generally do not change. For example, if I were to create a product about how to create a website, including how to upload files, how to zip a file, then that product would be considered to be evergreen.

If, on the other hand, I created a website that featured a product on how to market to your Facebook friends, then that product might not be considered to be evergreen. The reason is that Facebook might very likely change their rules, or tighten their privacy policy which would, very likely, cause your ebook to be out of date.

The one of the reasons that one would take caution with whether or not their product was evergreen is if it were part of a "set it and forget it" membership site. If you were to set up a membership site, with the intention of leaving it alone and let the material do all the work for you, you would want to stay away from topics such as Facebook or MySpace.

Another reason you might want your product to be evergreen is if you intend to attract affiliates to your site. Ideally, you want your affiliates to be able to promote your products without you having to update them.

Other examples of topics that you would not use to create evergreen products might include eBay, whose rules change all the time, and Google, whose search engine optimization secrets are never divulged and most likely change all the time.

Whether or not your product could be considered "evergreen" could also depend on how specific your information is. If you use a lot of generalities about weight loss, for example, if your product was based on the concept that to lose weight you should eat less and exercise more, then that information will stand the test of time.

The problems in that case, might arise if you decide to quote "the latest research", because surely the latest research on most topics concerning health and wellness will change considerably in a short period of time.

After your plants are ready to be sold, now what? Let's get selling! The most profitable way is to sell directly to the public. Retail sales get you paid now, instead of waiting months, which can be the case with wholesaling. You can also have a "wholesale day," where you sell your groundcovers at a discounted price. Having a big sale could bring some big crowds. Make sure you have plant labels and that all your plants are labeled with the correct type and price. You need to be ready for those big crowds, so make things easier on yourself by having all your plants labeled and grouped.

Looking for another profitable way to sell your plants? Try mail-order sales. Since ground covers are a niche market, many people are looking for a wider selection than what is available at their local garden center. That's why they turn to mail-order to find what they want. Put together a web site, flyer or free catalog, and try to get it in as many potential customers' hands as possible.
