Home Business Tips - My Turn to Ask Some Questions

Okay, first question. Why are you running your own home business? Is it because you lost your corporate America job? Is it because you simply got tired of working for a boss? Was it the commute? Did you just want something better? Is it all about the money or is it the freedom to be able to work when you want?

Everybody has their own reasons for wanting to work online. I'd like to know yours. Here's why I'm asking. Sometimes, the reason why somebody wants to do this is actually counterproductive to getting things done. I have learned from experience that some reasons lead to failure simply because the true love for doing something isn't there. Those of you who ever tried to be something you're not know what I'm talking about.

Okay, next question. Are you happy with your home business? I'm not just talking about the money you're making. I'm talking about the actual work you're doing. Does it excite you or are you bored to tears doing it? If the answer is the latter, maybe this isn't the right thing for you or maybe your focusing on a business model that isn't right for you. There are many different home business models. Just because one doesn't excite you doesn't mean you can't find one that will.

What are your priorities with your business? Is it just to make money or do you need to enjoy what you're doing? Some people say to me that they don't care what they do as long as they make money doing it. I can't do that. It would drive me crazy. I have to enjoy what I do. Also, is the money more important or is it the freedom to work when you want? Some people don't need a lot of money but DO need their freedom. I can certainly understand that.

If you could do anything else in the world and make money, would you do that OR would you still be running a home business? I'll be honest. If I could be a successful songwriter, that's what I'd be doing. But that's a tough field to break into, so I'm content being a successful home business owner. But no, this isn't my first choice in the world.

Home Based Business - Why You Can't Succeed Without Manipulating People

Years ago I went into an upscale men's store intent on buying two business suits. I was soon approached by a well dressed young man who asked me the standard question, "How can I help you today sir?". Rather than give him the usual answer of, "I'm just looking", I started to tell him exactly what I wanted to buy.

As a matter of fact, I didn't have much time to waste because of a business appointment. I told the young salesman, his name was Andre by the way, that I wanted one dark blue suit and one light gray suit. Andre immediately took me to the section that had what he thought I was looking to buy.

The first thing Andre did was take measurements of my waist, leg length, shoulder width, etc.. Then he pulled two suits off the rack that appeared to match exactly what I told him I was interested in buying. The dressing room was just a few steps away, so I decided to give them a try.

The suits looked OK but they didn't really excite me. I handed the suits back to Andre, thanked him for his time and left the store. Andre simply took the suits and told me the same old boring thing I have heard a thousand times before, "Have a nice day".

We can all agree that something was lacking in that situation---right?

Fortunately for me, there was another men's store in the same mall.

I wasn't immediately approached by a salesman. I was left to browse on my own and discover what appealed to me. After several minutes, I was asked, "Will you be needing a suit to take with you today or will we be making special alterations for you sir?".

It was clearly evident that I was in for some "Special Treatment".

Joseph, my salesman, instantly impressed me as a professional salesperson. You couldn't call him Joe or Joey because that would have been too much like an insult---too ordinary. Believe me when I tell you, this guy was special. Joseph asked me what functions my new suits would be used for. Did I need a causal or formal style? He continued with suggestions about material colors that best blended with my skin and hair coloring. After Joseph got through with me, I felt like he understood my emotional needs perfectly.

Joseph explained that I would never feel embarrassed or feel inadequate in any social setting whenever I was impeccably attired in one of his finest quality suits.

There is no question that Joseph expertly manipulated my FEELINGS into buying two fantastic suits for more than what I was looking to spend. He took the time to understand my emotional needs for buying the suits. My need to be "lookin' good" in every social situation was the key to the sale. My emotional manipulation was a good thing----don't you agree?
