Self Defeating Behaviors That Will Doom Your Home Based Business

Having your own home based business does not mean that you can sit back, relax and expect someone else to do the work for you so that you can reap the rewards. You have to understand that what you do dictates the amount of income that you will receive. You have to realize that if you treat your business like garbage it is going to pay you garbage. Many new entrepreneurs start their businesses with the full intention of taking it all the way to the top but soon develop self defeating behaviors that will surely doom their business.

The most common self defeating behaviors and how to overcome them are:

Lack of a daily method of operation. A daily method of operation is basically what you need to accomplish in order to achieve your goals. Whether you were your own boss before or an employee of a company, everyone knew what needed to be done on a daily basis in order to make deadlines or company goals. These tasks were not just made up out of thin air. They were established by someone that understood what needed to be accomplished. You need to do exactly the same thing with your business. You need to make up a schedule (your daily method of operation) so that you do not lose track of what needs to be done.

This schedule should start from the time you wake up until you go back to bed. Make your schedule reflect exactly what you need to do every hour of the day. Break larger tasks into one hour blocks so that they do not become too monotonous. Make sure that you schedule at least a 10 minute break every hour so that you can focus more attention on your tasks. This may sound silly, but place a timer on your desk and set it for 50 minutes and start your task. Avoid looking at or trying to beat the timer in order to finish your task. Just do your work and stay focused on income producing activities. Your daily method of operation must include time for meals, exercise, family time and recreation. When you follow your schedule, you will be amazed by how much more work you can get done by just simply knowing the tasks. Print your daily method of operation out and as you complete a task, scratch it off the list.

Procrastination. Procrastination is by far the worst self defeating behavior to have and the most difficult to overcome. You may find yourself putting tasks off because they may seem too difficult to tackle at the time or you just do not feel like doing it at that particular time. When you put things off for another time, they only build up and wind up being forgotten until you realize that your results are not what you expected. The easiest way to overcome this is by at least trying to complete the task. Make up your mind that you will at least make an attempt to start whatever it is you are putting off. Do it at the time that you have it scheduled for and soon it will become habit.

Fear. Fear will doom your business just as quick as procrastination will. Some people have the fear of failure and some the fear of success. When you look at both of them together, they might be more closely related than you think. Stepping out of your comfort zone and talking to people about your business is terrifying for some. Your comfort zone fear is only holding you back from succeeding. To overcome this try practicing what you are going to say about your business to a family member that you feel comfortable with. You may also want to try and practice in front of a mirror so that you can see what you look like while talking. Fear of failure and success are a factor of the unknown.

If you have dealt with failure several times in your life, you know what it feels like and you do not want to experience it again which brings the fear emotion back to reality. The opposite is true as well, if you have never experienced success, you do not know how you will handle it. Sure you have dreams and desires of what you will do when you are successful, but fearing that success will definitely hold you back. You can overcome your fear of success by talking with people that have achieved success. Get their take on what it feels like and what they do on a daily basis. You may find that what they feel and do is exactly what you want to accomplish.

Laziness. Laziness is one of the most common self defeating behaviors. You may have it in your mind that you can do whatever you want because you are the boss. This may in fact be true but you are still responsible for what does and does not get done. Let's face it, you are not going to get anything accomplished if you are sitting on the couch eating out of a bag of Cheetos and watching your favorite television programs. This is where you need to follow your daily method of operation and make sure that you stay on task and on schedule. One method to check your laziness level is to ask yourself at the end of the day if you did everything possible in order to succeed. How many of you will answer that question truthfully?

Failure to continue your education. It does not matter if you are the smartest person in the world, you do not know everything. It is vital that you attend any and all training sessions that your company provides. The most legitimate home based business companies have some type of training program for their members to continue their education and further their growth. This training is usually conducted daily or weekly through a webinar platform or teleconference. Most of the time these training sessions are recorded and posted in your back office so that you may view them later if you were not able to attend. This training is usually conducted by the top income earners in the industry and they do this service as a gift to you and other members so that you can learn from what they have succeeded in and failed in. This is your opportunity to learn from the best, so do yourself a favor and continue your education.

Failure to become a product of the product. There is no better way to become an expert and be able to portray that expertise to prospects than by becoming a product of your products. When you do this, you have experienced results first hand and you will be able to express those results confidently to others. Becoming a product of the product helps to build trust with your prospects because you can now give a truthful testimonial and can show or explain how it will work for them.

Complacency. Becoming complacent with your daily method of operation will spell certain doom. This is why it is important to mix up your schedule if it allows. Take a good look at the results that you are getting with the amount of work that you are putting in. If you are not satisfied with the results, then you have become complacent. Evaluate your results and identify what you can do differently to achieve more. You may have to switch up your schedule somehow, if it will allow. The most important thing is to be able to identify what the problem is and come up with a course of action to overcome it.

Lack of goals. This is by far my favorite subject to talk about and I will try to keep it short. In order to become successful in your rel=nofollow home based business you will have to know what you are working for. You MUST establish a long term goal that you have meditated about and envisioned. You MUST write this goal down and have it on display where not only you but everyone else in your life can see it. Assign someone in your life that will hold you responsible to that goal. Your long term goal should seem inconceivable to you in order for it to be real.

This long term goal should only be established after some deep soul searching. One thing that you have to understand is that this goal cannot be achieved on its own and you will have to break it down into smaller ones. These smaller goals are where your midterm and short term goals come into play. You are going to have to give this a great deal of thought and planning. On a sheet of paper write down your ultimate goal; exactly what it is and the date that you want to achieve it.

Determine what you are going to have to do in order to accomplish that goal and break it down into years, months, weeks or days depending on how large your goal is and what it's going to take. Your determination of this becomes your midterm goals. On a separate piece of paper write these new goals down and determine if they can be accomplished on their own. If they can, leave them as they are. If they can't, break it down into smaller pieces and these become your short term goals. Using your long term, midterm and short term goals is how you are going to establish your daily method of operation which brings us back to the first behavior that I discussed.

In summary, all these self defeating behaviors work hand in hand. If you do not have corrective actions for your poor work behaviors, they will in turn affect the next one and will doom your home based business. You will have to stay focused on your dreams and goals in order to succeed. Once you have mastered your work behaviors and put these practices into action, your business will not be destined to fail. Make sure that you have fun working your business. If it is not fun you will not want to do it just as a child does not want to do their chores.

Baby Boomers Who Succeed As an Entrepreneur Control Their Fears

Everyone I have ever talked to that is an entrepreneur has had to come face to face with their fears. I have had to also. I would like to share with you some of the techniques which I've used to deal with them. The first step is not to be in denial. You have concerns even though you don't readily recognize them. They generally take the form of chatter at the back of your head that says you cannot get it done.

Fear is such a huge issue preventing individuals from growing to be business owners. I've heard from the Chief executive officer of a real-estate based internet marketing business that even though he has people packing out company workshops, that maybe 2-5% of individuals will actually go out and apply the knowledge through putting offers in real estate. He's convinced that the rest are paralyzed by fear.

Here are some among the techniques I have applied as I discovered them from the entrepreneurs I know:

Think of what you want. If you find yourself hearing the particular wheels in your head over and over again with regards to your worst scenario, change it around and focus on what you need and desire. Visualize yourself obtaining that which you desire. See the new home. See yourself actually talking to the serious people as they become a part of your business. You get everything you focus on.

Change the voice. Whenever you hear yourself suggesting that you're not good enough, that you're likely to fail. Just change the voice from yours to that of any fictive voice similar to a cartoon character or something else that will hold little weight with you regardless! Just who cares if Joe Blow thinks you aren't good enough? Is Joe Blow a business person?

Express them to a trusted close friend or associate. Hopefully you've had the opportunity to get some level of help from at least one other entrepreneur. Ideally, you have a mentor that supports you. If not, then you really should have some kind of support network,a membership site where you can communicate with your peers a team, that you could talk to. Some people might tell you that it's silly you could perhaps believe that you're not sufficiently good. For me, my spouse is a huge constant source of support. However, don't look for support from any of those individuals who doubt you and let you know it was ridiculous to go working for yourself. They will never understand the entrepreneur.

Have a self improvement library. I draw tremendous support through my library. It is not just filled with how to resources, but also stories of other people who conquered their phobias. I couldn't begin to list the numerous sources I have, but if you e-mail me I can recommend something in line with the description of your circumstances.

Go ahead and get it done. Sometimes just taking the smallest step may help get you going enough that the fear of not doing something will go away. An example could be neglecting to write an article such as this one due to fear of failure. Just getting started with it could build sufficient energy to see this through.

Visualize the result, but make action the goal. There is a delicate difference here for the entrepreneur. Of course you desire the result, but maybe that isn't in your direct control. Imagine the result in your thoughts, but make your main goal the consistent as well as persistent action of the entrepreneur. This action will eventually produce benefits and you'll definitely reach that goal.

Never, ever quit. I dislike to even use that quit word. Should you quit, you stop being an entrepreneur. Otherwise you're not beaten, you are moving ahead!

Fear! It's just a part of what the baby boomers entrepreneurs has to face in building their business. Challenging Yourself Out of That Comfort Zone

For a lot of people the hardest thing about being your own boss is the fact that you are only accountable to yourself. You have no one in the background telling us what to do, when to do it and most importantly, How to do it. For a lot of people making the switch to a home based business, this is the toughest part to get used to!

We know that there are many different functions within our business that we have to do to be successful and bring in the income necessary to exist. There are always going to be tasks that we do not like to do; things that make us uncomfortable. But in order to be successful we have to stretch ourselves and think out of the box and get out of the comfort zone!

One of the easiest ways to do this is by simple challenges each day. What is it you fear? What tasks hold back your progress? List them down and work them one by one until you are comfortable doing that task.

If approaching people and handing them your business card is your difficulty, have someone go with you and work on it together. Make a point of doing it Once. Just one. Tomorrow, try two and the following day three and so on. As you practice, you will become more comfortable with yourself and the process.

Is accounting or advertising your fear? By realizing we are usually afraid of the unknown, tackle that by taking a course and learn simple bookkeeping and/or advertising methods.

Many people fear speaking to others in a group or public speaking. Knowing that you must speak to others to grow your business can be a large obstacle for many. Search out small groups that you can join to help you bridge that fear. Toastmasters or any local self interest group will certainly be a great way to start.

Will you like doing the things you fear? Probably not. But that is ok. You are showing yourself that you can do it and overcome the obstacles and overcoming your fear. You will start to realize that you can do it when you "have to" and soon it will become a "want to". Work on your Fear list everyday and eventually you will be stretching the boundaries of your comfort zone by growing your contacts and business in wonderful ways. You can kick out the barriers that hold you back! Enjoy the journey!

How Rich People Think

Being an entrepreneur means having the belief in 'you' to make success happen. If you think you can do something you will, on the flip side, if you think you can't do something, you won't.

We all have the fear of failing, of making a fool of ourselves. The ones that pluck up the courage to say, 'so what', better to have tried to make something of my life, than stay stuck in my little rut, no matter how comfortable I am. Get too comfortable and you may find you get too lazy. But that's ok life changing opportunities aren't for everyone. Or, do you have courage to take the first step to get out of your comfort zone?

The first step into a new opportunity is amazing and scary, or amazingly scary. It calls for new skills that you may not have; you may find you need to learn new things. Being excited and having the fear of failing is common. Some may even have the fear of succeeding too! How will your life change once you become rich? Perhaps the idea is more exciting than the reality.

But what if you took the first steps towards making a new life for yourself and your family? By doing so you will increase your confidence, learn some great things, and increase your self-worth. Would it be worth the effort then?

When you become an entrepreneur you look at life differently. Problems become challenges which you find a way around because you have gained the confidence to do so by stepping out of your comfort zone. When you increase your self-worth and the value you give to others, new opportunities open up for you and relationships become richer.

Learning how to develop a positive attitude and mindset greatly changes the way you look at life. The feeling of high self-esteem you have reflects in the way that you talk, and in your dealings with others. You may even find you get noticed at work more, by your bosses, because you are working more positively and being more pro-active in finding solutions to work challenges.

Keep your mind open and active. Be skilled enough, creative and confident enough to go for the great opportunities that present themselves - regardless of the present economy.

I know I can speak of these things because it was me, only six months ago. Having finally found the courage to step out of my comfort zone, grab an amazing opportunity, go out and make friends with people and develop successful relationships that really changed my attitude and way of life.

No more do I sit in front of the TV, a real soul and relationship destroyer. I woke up and decided I wanted better things for my family. No more j-o-b, just over broke, at the end of the month. I felt fear; I was scared most of the time. So will you. When I first started I wasn't positive, nor did I feel I could do this. I was on my own for a while until I found a fantastic mentor and a worthwhile business to do at home.

Now, I feel happy and positive. My family's future is looking rosy, and I can sleep at night.

So, don't just accept the life that you have. If you're dissatisfied with the cards dealt to you, do something about it. If I can do it you can too. [http://worldofworth.com/?site=100Millionaires&t=ezine]More Info Here. [http://bit.ly/g9GySf]Free Ebook For You

5 Steps to Overcoming Fear to Achieve Success

Fear can be a powerful motivator, giving you the strength to do things you never thought were possible. However, it can also have a crippling affect, leaving you incapable of performing the tasks necessary to achieve the success you deserve. You can overcome fear to achieve the success you seek, but it takes willingness and desire on your part to be able to reach past the fear and take action. Here are five ways you can start the process of overcoming fear to achieve the success you deserve:

1. Knowing what it takes to succeed

It's not enough to have a picture of the final destination in mind. You need to write down clear goals, break those goals down into manageable steps, and then move forward one step at a time. It's hard to be fearful of a single day's to-do list, but as you build achievement upon achievement one day at a time, you will achieve success.

2. Set realistic expectations

You might want to be able to pay off all your debt, quit your job, and make a million dollars within six months, but if you want to overcome fear, you need to start by having realistic goals in the first place. What is it that you truly want? Is waking up every morning and going to work at a dead-end job draining your spirit? Focus first on making a goal to replace the income from your job with enough income from your entrepreneurial activities so that you can escape the cubicle, then work on increasing your earnings to achieve your million-dollar goal.

3. Surround yourself with successful people

Associating with people who believe in your ability to succeed is one of the surest ways of overcoming fear to achieve success. If you are constantly surrounded by people who try to kill your dreams and want you to conform, you will lose faith in yourself and become fearful. By choosing to be around people who have achieved what you want to achieve, you can begin to believe in your own ability, vanquishing fear. You will achieve success.

4. Recognize that change takes time

Making changes takes time, and overcoming fear to achieve success is a continual process that requires you to keep pushing forward, reminding yourself of the small successes along the way, and being forgiving to yourself when the outcome is not exactly what you desired.

5. Believe in yourself

It starts with building your belief in yourself and repairing your self esteem and snowballs into empowerment and capability. Simply by acknowledging that your fear is holding you back from success, you have taken the first step toward overcoming fear to achieve success.

"I Want To Start A Home-Based Business But I'm Scared!" 7 Ways To Deal With Fear

Day in and day out we let our fears keep us from doing something we really want to do. Things we love we constantly talk ourselves out of doing it. Be it public speaking, going for a promotion or starting a business of our own whatever scares you here are 7 ways to deal with your fears.

1. Please don't expect perfection.

It's ok to make mistakes as long as you learn from it! Sometimes we put to much pressure on ourselves to be perfect. Life is full of stresses, bad days will happen. Deal with it don't dwell on it and keep moving forward.

2. Face up to your fears.

Avoiding fears only makes them that much scarier. Whatever you fear,(like starting your own home based business) if you face it, it should start to fade and go away.

3. Get real with yourself.

Fears are often much worse then reality. We make things so bad mentally that we take ourselves out of the game before we get stated. But we often realize that once the task is started or completed that it wasn't as bad as we thought it was going to be.

4. Welcome the worst that can happen.

Fears will no longer be a problem if we learn to embrace it each time an uncomfortable situation occurs. Try to imagine the worst that could happen and you'll often see your worrying unnecessarily. The more you chase fear the more it runs away.

5. Talk to someone.

Talking to someone about your fears you'll not only find that your not alone but it will also take a lot of the scariness away.

6. Go back to basics to ease your fears.

Simple things like taking a walk or eating a good meal will do wonders to ease your fears. Try doing something that makes you feel good mentally and physically.

7. Treat yourself.

When you finally speak in public or start your own business reinforce the accomplishment by treating yourself to something special that you enjoy.

In conclusion, fear is a natural part of life. There's nothing wrong with being a little anxious about starting something new. But you can't let it consume you or you'll never move forward. Instead of letting your fear hold you back use it to make you a stronger and better person.

Ideas For A Home Based Business - The Fear Factor - Part 2 of 4

In part 1 of this 4 part series we looked at how fear can prevent us from pursuing a home business, and some ways to handle that fear. Now, let's examine a few ideas for a home based business and see if we can shed some light on various assumptions that can trigger fear or concerns that might prevent us from moving forward.

Selling art, jewelry or crafts online

Do you wish you were artistic enough to make this a home business? Imagine how you would feel if you had this as a business and could create art that people really liked and were buying. Now consider this - you don't need to be a nationally recognized artist to create art that people will buy. Abstract art is a perfect example. This became clear to me when I watched a video online of a person creating abstract art with scraps of paper, string, other odds and ends, and some glittery paint. At the end of the video the artist said in effect: what looks like a mess to you looks like beautiful art to someone else. She has a thriving business.

As for jewelry and crafts, take a slow walk through the big craft stores in your area. Beads and wire jewelry are huge these days and you'll find lots of books explaining exactly how to create beautiful jewelry with simply a few different pliers and various sized wire. While looking, take in the number of craft items that are available. The selection is enormous. You simply need to add some paint or combine items into a craft you think others would enjoy. Again, you can look through the craft books to get lots of ideas. It doesn't take skill to create these so much as it does simple determination and some inspiration.

Freelance writing

The first time I heard of freelance writing, I assumed it meant writing articles or stories for magazines, newspapers, journals, publishers and, well, you get the picture - the classic print media we are all familiar with. I thought, clearly one would need a degree in journalism or something before you can have a career as a freelance writer. The fact is, many individuals from all walks of life, are earning a living as freelance writers, writing (drum roll please...) content on the internet. The number of people connecting to and shopping on the internet, and, the number of businesses that are establishing a presence on it are increasing at a phenomenal rate. The web is so vast that we typically use sites like google, yahoo or bing to help us find the information we are searching for. Businesses pay people to write content for their websites that help draw in potential customers. You don't need to be a journalism major to fulfill this need. Do a search on freelance writing and see if you don't find some inspiring material to help you take the next step with your ideas for a home based business.

Internet Marketing

I once thought Internet Marketing meant haggling on the phone with some cigar smoking advertising executive over the price of running an ad on some web site. Or, worse, attending meetings with executives where I have to pitch some marketing plan they should buy into, only to get shot down and ridiculed. Sound like a nightmare? Being a somewhat shy person at heart, anything with the word "marketing" was not on my list of ideas for a home based business. Again, I had let fear, and therefore ignorance, prevent me from looking any further. It was only when I did some research into internet marketing that I found out I was completely mistaken. The bottom line is, make a conscious effort to realize you may have had assumptions about what a business involves, and be willing to drop them and do research to get a more accurate understanding of the business.

Above are three examples of ideas for a home based business that may have been discarded initially since we have assumptions about ourselves or the business itself. By looking more closely at the business or opportunity, as well as ourselves, we might find a source of inspiration that has been waiting to be untapped. The idea here is to give yourself an honest chance to think through and understand each opportunity, despite the fear that may present itself. Ask yourself, am I really risking anything by simply researching the idea and gaining knowledge about it? The fact is, there is no risk in doing this.

Be sure to read part 3 of this series where I explain how to research home based businesses without fear and frustration.

Fearing you are inadequate, Fear of failing.

Family worries they think I`m insane and tell me it's a scam, they will laugh at me if it fails.
Fear of other peoples criticism, lack of confidence.

Can you see a pattern here?. Fear, as human beings it's our biggest malfunction button we have in our brains and it will control your life and destiny if you let it. When we find ourselves in a situation that we are unhappy and uncomfortable and afraid. And this fear of the big unknown is the reason 97% of work from home businesses fail because the fear overcomes the opportunity.

Why do people fear so much?. No one can control what may happen in their future lives. Not one single person can tell you what will happen next Friday or in six months time until the we reach that physical time and date.

If you find yourself in a fearful mindset the biggest boost and security you can provide yourself with is by building self-confidence.

As you build you own self-confidence this will enable you to move towards the big unknown. But your will need to trust and have faith in yourself that what ever happens to you the future you will overcome the situation and deal with it and find a route through it.

Remember you may not know exactly what will happen tomorrow, but I know today what does happen tomorrow I will find a route and deal with the situation to my best ability.

We are all built the same way! Its ups to you how you program your mind and overcome hurdles in life, especially starting your own work from home business. But if you start to confront your fears and learn what is making you so fearful in the first place you will find that actually some of the reasons are pretty dumb and allows you to overcome the objections and move towards your personal goals of personal and financial freedom working from home provides.

All your fearful reasons why you couldn't start your own business are all problems that can be solved, not fear.

Let take for example the fear you have of leaving your secure and paid job. I want you to firstly write down a plan of what you want to achieve and exactly how you are going to obtain it.

Do you need to study a new course?, learn new skills how do you need to prepare for it? Secondly work out a money reserve for family needs. Thirdly become a student of other successful people in the business you wish to succeed in. Model them, copy them. Learn from their success and boost your own self-confidence. Remember if that persona can do it, you can too. Especially if you do the exact things they have done. That's the secret to online work from home success.

So when you find yourself being held back from what you really want in life. Step back and take an honest look at what is holding you back. Stamp out the fear, figure out a way and solve the problem, make a plan and get back to designing your own dream lifestyle.

How to Avoid Falling at the First Hurdle When Starting an Internet Business

All successful internet marketers will tell you that people who fail in internet marketing, do so because they don't focus.

But surely they do exactly that?

Wallet at the ready, they focused on the excitement of starting their own internet home business,on all the exciting offers thrown their way. This looks good, that sound fine. I think I'll try this, now I'll try that. Offers that promised a fortune in a month - overnight success and much, much more

You see, the underlying problem was not that they didn't focus - but fear.

That's right - fear.

But in this case it's fear of failure, and consequently our friends and family laughing at us. A successful internet business is now paramount in their lives and they see all these highly spurious offers guaranteeing that and are content to blindly pay for the privilege. And if one offer doesn't deliver the goods quick enough - try another.

If they had mortgaged their house out of existence to invest in a retail outlet in some mall, or a franchise, do you think they would have approached that business in the same way?

Then at some point dejection kicks in, or the wallet's drained.

No one is delivering on their promises and they haven't made a penny dime. Some cave in at that point, others go on trying to buy their way to the promised land, but the driving force in both cases is still fear.

Fear is at the back of all our minds when we embark on a start up business plan.

The difference is successful marketers use it to control their decisions. It's there all the time, but if you let it coerce you into irrational decisions that situation can only escalate into failure.

Instead, use it as a steadying rail. You will make mistakes, but understanding why and rectifying them can make you stronger, increase your resolve to succeed. But if you panic, then fear will hand you a one way ticket to disaster.

So, if you're contemplating starting a successful online business then first of all put that wallet away and focus on what it is you actually want to do. Pick a small business opportunity you think will suit you and work towards building that into a successful online business. There may well come a time when you need a piece of software, or video training manual, but only purchase what will advance your business further.

Don't buy it, if you won't apply it.

So there you are. Control the fear and let it help you advance your chosen business, not destroy it.
