I am going to assume that since you are reading this article, you're actually considering spending some money on your home business. However, if you're determined to go the completely free route (God bless you) then there is nothing here for you to read. For those looking to spend money, you're probably wondering what you should spend it on first. This article is going to give you some ideas.

The answer to this question is going to depend a lot on several things. The first of these is what type of business you actually want to get into. No, they are not all the same. Each business model requires its own specific outline and thus, different expenses. The second of these has to do with how much actual knowledge you have of running a business. And the third has to do with how much money you have and/or how much you are willing to borrow, assuming you can even get a loan.

Let's take the first thing. Somebody who has decided to open up a copywriting business is not going to need the same tools as somebody who is selling digital products. The copywriter needs writing tools. The product creator needs product creation tools. While there is some overlap, there are also a lot of items that are specific to each. You need to put aside funds for the items that YOU need for YOUR business.

Now, having said that, some of these items can be gotten free, though usually the free versions are of lesser quality than their paid counterparts. You need to realize this going in. Some free versions are very good. Others make the work to be done so difficult that they're just not worth your time. So research the tools and services you need and budget for them. List them in order of importance so you get the most critical ones ahead of some that maybe you can do without IF you're limited for funds.

Let's take knowledge next. I don't care what kind of business you're running. You can't be as uneducated as a stump (notice I didn't say dumb) and run it efficiently. You MUST know what you're doing. Now, a lot of home business instruction CAN be gotten for free. However, you have to weigh in the amount of time it's going to take to find that instruction. What is your time worth to you? Personally, if I can get a comprehensive home business course that will give me all the knowledge I need to start and run a home business and it's going to cost me $2,000, I'll buy it. I don't want to have to spend all that time digging up info that may or may not help me. Naturally, you need to do your research on the course itself to see what kind of a reputation it has.

Finally, there is how much money you have or how much you can get your hands on. No sense talking about buying that $2,000 course if all you have to spend is $200. You'll have to make do with something else. But at the very least, you need to get the items that will allow you to actually have a business. If that means you have to get web hosting, get it. If it means you have to buy a domain, buy it. If it means you're going to design ecovers, then purchase something like Photoshop so you can do it effectively.

I know this isn't the answer you expected to hear, but each business is different and I can't tell you what to spend your money on specifically. But the above general guidelines SHOULD get you on the right track.

As a new entrepreneur in the home business industry, the most challenging situation I found was ironically at my own home. The main thing for this to happen was that I started to move out of my comfort zone, which my wife noticed right away. By comfort zone I mean the following, keep working on your same job year after year, waiting for that check every fifteen days to keep us alive.
So this was my zone I was happy with, it was like a trap, and it is not that I hate my job from 8 to 5 or from 3 to 11.30, not at all, but if I wanted to do something that would change my routine and could give us some more freedom economically, then IT WAS TIME to make the next move.
But, here enters my wife in the show. I have to say her arguments are valid, yes, she is totally right when she tells me that I am dedicating more time to this new job, that I am not taking care of her like before, that there is no need to keep pushing for more money and that working 8 hours on my regular job was enough.
So here my dear MLM entrepreneurs is when you have to choose either to back out of your freedom plans or take her by the hand and explain the benefits of staring your own business in the best way you can, that it will take time but the love you feel for her and for the family will never take the place of that business opportunity. That you as the leader of the family have great plans not to become a millionaire but to give them a better opportunity, a better future, help your love ones and who knows, become a millionaire.
Always show respect for your wife, show love for her, tell her when she sees you in front of your computer that all what you do is in order to have a brighter future. What I do sometimes is turn off my computer right away and take my lovely wife for a walk or invite her to drink anything, then after a while we come back home and resume what we left off.
Believe me, when you do this, it will create a powerful bond between you and your wife for one and only one reason, that no matter what is going on, you are putting her in FIRST place, and this my friends is what love is all about bringing down hate and fear walls which automatically will take you to another level of performance on your new networking business.

Sales and Party plan working from home are directions pursued by many in these uncertain financial times. The excitement of that unexpected sale to make your Tupperware party a financial success, the phone call 'out of the blue', ordering a substantial range days after you lingerie party, a regular customer who brings a few friends with him to your market stall, are all things which keep us going. Encouraging us to turn up next week or book that next party, to keep 'having a go'. The life of someone working the sales and party plan working from home, type of business, is lifted by the smallest encouragement. And then there is the up line, sponsor, supplier or just the partner at home encouraging all the way, because your success, is their success.

To be successful in sales and party plan working from home it takes pure persistence and a will to just keep going when others give up. Some of the opportunities on the 'net' are just 'traditional' businesses masked with technology, to make them appear the 'latest and greatest' but under the facade, they are just the same old mousetrap. You are still the 'little person' who must strive and do the 'hard yards' to make a few bucks, while you know someone else is making much more from your efforts than you are. We can say, everyone started somewhere, but most of these types of businesses are not designed to make you very successful.

There are many alternatives for single parents working from home. Just because you are left with the sole responsibility for raising your children, does not mean you have to totally turn your back on the work scene. You still have an enormous amount to give and to contribute to society. You just have to think smarter.

To be a single parent working from home is foreign to some of you, so you will try to maintain a 'normal' job, whatever that is, but as you will be the only income earner you must stay 'ahead of the game.' This is extremely difficult with time restraints like taking your child to childcare, school, etc. What if your child is sick and has to have a day at home or needs to see a doctor? You have to arrange for family or friends to help out or else you must take the day off to look after him/her. It's very difficult to get ahead in a job, when you cannot always focus 100% on the tasks at hand. Just doing what is basically expected of you is sometimes very challenging, when you have to juggle it around your family.

For single parents working from home, there are many options. Some will find a unique product and sell on E-bay. This can work well, as it can be worked around your family's time but, one must be aware of the pitfalls associated with marketing this way. Online typing jobs can pay the bills, but it's very time consuming to make any real money and you have to pound a lot of keys to get a reasonable return. Doing every online survey which comes along can create income, but certainly not enough to 'give up your day job.' Of course, the networking Industry is a way not to be constantly trading hours for dollars. But again you must be 'street wise' and aware of the pitfalls. The majority of networking businesses are not going to make you much and certainly won't allow you to give up a traditional job. The returns can be pretty slim compared to the outlay, and at a time when you can't afford to squander funds. Unless it's fully automated, and that means leads, products delivery, servicing customers and all, it can be a trap and actually take more of your time for less return. The majority of networking companies are not interested in you making too much, as long as the leaders stay pretty well healed. You are just one of the masses who are the 'cannon fodder' of marketing online.

MLM and networking are both capable of making, the single parent working from home, a residual income. However if we do our home work, we will find that there are a couple of companies which can be operated totally on the internet, where automated systems can be set up to do all facets of the business, with very little human contact needed to make a successful operation. Again a lot of research is needed before embarking on a journey with any of these companies as promises will be made, but little will be delivered by most. They are just after your money to keep feeding the 'upline.' The single parent working from home is a vulnerable unsuspecting victim in a sea of opportunities, most of which are totally useless.

To be successful, as with anything, do your homework. Adopt the 'buyer beware' attitude. Do your due diligence and if there is any area where you are not sure, DON'T.
