Photography Income In Retirement - Monetize Your Hobby

I have been an active photographer since high school when I earned a few bucks (or Kroners in Norway) taking pictures for the local newspaper. It paid for my camera equipment - which made my parents happy. Well, that little side line never really ended. I never made a living with photography, but I am to this day earning enough money to more than paying for my equipment. I am now semi-retired and this is part of my retirement income. And fun too!

To make a long story short, using high-end cameras since the beginning (1968) I manage to earn enough to support my habit. There are several ways to do that, personally I do some Realtor work - taking pictures of listings, I have done some team sports and nature/wildlife images I have printed out and sold.

A few years ago I got hired three years in a row (then I moved) to be the official photographer for the NW Washington State Fair. I got that by offering to take pictures one year in return for access to "back stage" at the fair. I got that, and they loved my images. So I had a couple of years of great fun while earning money doing what I really loved to do. With that credibility (I earned several prizes for my work from the WA State Fair Association) - I could have done some marketing and made more out of it. Life happened, so it got dropped.

The knowledge I have is really not much, but I suppose I have a natural "eye" for composition. I have also learned that from a digital camera - no matter how good it is - tweaking the images after shooting helps make them a little less than "off the rack". A little sharpening here, add some contrast. That will set you apart from the millions of point-and-shoot photographers out there that think their pictures are just great.

The other thing I learned as a semi-pro photographer is that the client is almost always right. Many, many times they want a certain "look" and I'd better deliver. In spite of my own view on it. Although, for the most part clients accept my expertise and products. But always listen.

I love to do nature pictures. Many people do. It is very difficult to sell nature/wildlife images, since they are so common these days. They have to really inspire or be so much better that people's pictures from their last trip to Mexico. Good images tell a story.

Here's an acid test when it comes to "great" nature/wildlife images: when people look at your picture and they don't ask "where is this taken", THEN you have a great image. Nature pictures should be location independent. Same with people. If they ask "who is this" your image is a snapshot.

On out trip to Norway this year I managed to score lots of great images. The fall colors were incredible, the weather just perfect for photography. How can I monetize this portfolio? I can make postcards, print them up and sell them at Scandinavian fairs (which I have done) or post them on a website for sale on-line.

So in retirement, if you have an interest in photography - start thinking of how you can monetize your hobby.

Want to Make $100,000 Online This Year? 5 SIMPLE Steps to a 6 Figure Income From Home

Who else is desperate to hit it big online? Have you studied all of the gurus... tried all of the products and simply feel SNOOKERED by all of the hype? If your frustrated and feel like a failure, the truth is, you are NOT alone.

And MORE importantly, it's really not your fault. Hundreds of thousands of people have been VICTIMIZED by product launch promises that have fallen WELL short of expectations, and it's no surprise that so many are out of hope.

The GOOD news?

I'm going to lay out for you ALL that you need to parlay your PASSION into perpetual piles of profit, and I'm going to do it in a way that hopefully, for many of you, will resonate with integrity and authenticity as well.

The FIRST thing you MUST do using our system?

You've got to be willing to build a list. You can do this for free..using articles just like the one you are reading right now.

The SECOND thing you really SHOULD do? (it's not a must but is preferable)

Be willing to offer something of significant value to your list that is NOT affiliate oriented. (in other words, something that you create yourself that reflects your own ethos, or expertise)

You can use the below as a more mercenary affiliate marketers, but it's not as effective, and more importantly is a waste of your time and talent if you've got BIG plans (and profits) in mind.

Without further adieu, here is the SIMPLE 5 step funnel you need to convert your list into a 6 figure income from home.

Content: Your content are your articles (like this one), your blog posts, your PDF's and free reports, your social media submission, your press releases and just about everything that lays the foundation for your expertise around the web. (Content really is KING, and the more of it you have, the better everything else will work)

Character: This is the ONE thing that most people simply will NEVER do. You've got to create a character. Be funny... be engaging, be unique, eccentric and interesting. Be controversial... confrontational and be different! There is NO substitute for CHARACTER driven marketing, and if you think about it, MOST of the great marketers you know are probably very different than their public face. (emulate this if you can't come up with your own)

Community: You need to build a community. A tribe, as Seth Godin would say. Or an army of EVANGELISTS who will sing your praises to the masses... or whose simply PRESENCE on your blog, or on your social media pages, demonstrates their passion... their admiration and their respect (and love) for you, your "brand" and your business. (lots of easy ways to do this... but simply START by being a nice, friendly and POLITE person to those that take the time to comment on your comment... and you'll be AMAZED at how well that alone works..:-)

Conversation: Your sequence of stuff... once people are engaged with your process. Your auto-responders. Your blog posts that CHALLENGE people to engage, interact and participate in your process. Surveys are SUPER important. Questionnaires and contests are great, too. Your outrageous offers. Your strategic SOLUTIONS! Engage people in a dialog... rather than a monologue, and you'll be amazed at what you learn. (and how you can translate that into the LAST step below)

Curriculum: Codify your CONTENT... into a curriculum. Teach. Coach. Mentor. And parlay your PASSION... and authentic sense of purpose, into PERPETUAL piles of profit.

If you do the first 4 steps properly... and augment it with a CURRICULUM that befits your expertise, you will NEVER want for customers, clients and business... and earning a 6 figure income, from anywhere in the world will be easy, I promise!

Make Money From Home - Work For Yourself!

Unless you are already wealthy, or inherit, win the lottery, or have a nice passive income coming in from an existing property or investment, you are unlikely to become rich. You are also more unlikely to become rich, working for someone else. The obvious exceptions to that rule are certain employees (such as those at the Google start up) being in the right place at the right time, senior managers and certain individuals who work for the banks and financial markets. Some of their options and bonuses would do most people a lifetime. But, if we talk in percentage terms, then there is a definite likelihood, that if you work for someone else, you will not become rich, wealthy or anywhere near it. You may if you're lucky, after 30 years or so, pay off your house, even buy a second one, but in the scheme of things, you will be no big player.

But, there is an opportunity that is open to everyone of us. Sure, the risks are far greater, the hours may be longer and the sleepless nights may increase. But, having worked on both sides of the fence, I would say that working for yourself is the only way to go. That's easy for you to say, I can hear you cry. I've got a job that pays the mortgage, two kids in school and bills to pay. Yep, been there, done that. In truth, I added so many floors to my personal skyscraper that it became impossible to jump from without causing serious bodily harm.

But I still jumped (and it hurt).

But I think most people, in employment, will find any leap into the dangerous and shark infested waters of self employment a scary thing to do. Many will never do it and of course, that's fine too. We can't all be self employed entrepreneurs, someone has got to stoke the fires, keep the hospitals running etc. etc.

However, if you do find yourself in a job that you hate and you know that self employment is the way forward, there is a way to test the water before you leap. It's called the weekend, it's called the evening, it's even called borrowing some of your employer's time (if you've basically decided to call it a day and no longer fear the sack).

Test out your idea. Try it. Build it. Then jump. Jeronimo!

Please read on. I am trying to tell you with all the truth I can, you have got to know there are people out there trying to find something to make money on line by staying at home and this is it.

I fell on this little secret and almost dropped to my knees when I saw what this simple, easy, no money out of pocket program was all about. Oh yea, did I mention NO money out of pocket? Something for nothing, this is insane I thought. You CAN'T make an income from nothing.

Have you tried to get something going on line? Have you spent a small fortune trying to get an Internet business going? Well brother believe me I have and if you have, I'm NOT wasting your time or mine here. This has a way of making you see right off the bat what little you have to spend and I mean little if any.

Maybe you have not tried anything yet and would like to start something? Or you don't think you know enough to even get started? Maybe you feel the Internet home business is for the other guy? All I'm telling you is if your pocket is empty like mine was, and if you don't think you've got what it takes like I thought, you are not alone here.

There is a brand new life when you get into the Internet playing field. There is no economic lack of money here. The Internet is world wide and so is your store front, sort of speaking. I had a business one time that only held a hand full of customers and only delt with the same every day. But now with the Internet there are no walls and the building that you do business with is as big as the whole world. You never can run out of customers and rely on good weather or road conditions again. Do you hear what I'm telling you? If you feel you want the stay at home and be with your family idea of earning an income than you have found the only thing you need right here. And oh did I mention there is NOTHING out of pocket. For real! I know you are either going crazy trying to figure out what I could be talking about, or I'm crazy in the head myself.

You take a job like baby sitting, it doesn't cost anything but you make money right? How about reading a book to someone who can't read, you can make money there too. You see this is the same thing. You are getting something for nothing and someone has it all mapped out for you so why wait? You have NOTHING to lose here and EVERYTHING to gain. So follow through with me here. I really want you do get the good things in life that are out there. I don't know who you are but I do know one thing, you are a person just like me and someone did this for me and now I'm bringing you to the table.

I get up in the morning and have my coffee or juice like you. I sit and drink my coffee or juice and wonder if there is a better way to earn an income, just like you. I've wondered when I'll be able to get another car if not that new one that I've been dreaming about, just like you. I've got your answers all here for you. I promise this won't cost you a cent to find out what I'm telling you and you have a chance of a life time to make it all happen.

The Guru Ivory Tower - What a Laugh

Yeah, I've finally had it. The vein on my head has finally burst open and the blood is gushing out all over the floor...not to mention my nice new keyboard. I'm sending somebody the bill. And it's NOT going to be the gurus. Why? Because they're not the cause of my frustration. It's all the guru bashers out there that are driving me nuts. Well, if you're one of them and don't want to hear some truth, don't read this article. You've been warned.

This rant is the direct result of a thread started by Ron Douglas over at the Warrior Forum. He essentially asked if it got to a point where you became too successful to post at the forum anymore. Well, to make a long story short, ultimately, what it came down to is that a lot of the gurus stopped posting there because they simply got sick and tired of all the guru bashing. And who can blame them? Hell, I'm no guru and I've had my share of brutal attacks. I can only imagine what these guys have to deal with.

But here's the best part. It was brought up about the gurus sitting in their ivory towers basically just shooting the bull and not doing anything productive while us little guys are out there getting some real work done. Um, hello? How do you think these guys got to where they are? And do you REALLY think that they've stopped, unless of course they just decided to retire? Where do people come up with these crazy ideas?

What really gets me though is all the bashing in the first place. The irony of it all is this. Just about every person who bashes a guru wants to, in some way, be where they are. I mean let's face it. We're in this business to make money and hopefully become as successful as we can. Does that at all sound familiar? Aren't we essentially bashing the people who have managed to do what we wish to God we could do?

The hypocrisy of it all is beyond ironic. It's almost laughable. But no doubt, it will continue to go on. Why? It's very simple. It's human nature. We love seeing the people at the top fall. That's just the way it is. Look at all the fallen heroes we've had in our history. Look at people like Mike Tyson, Barry Bonds, Tiger Woods, and on and on. We love it when these people screw up and get taken down a few pegs...all while we wish we could have their fame and fortune.

Do yourself a favor. The next time you want to do some guru bashing, take a look in the mirror and see if it's not just plain old jealousy and nothing else.

Ivory towers indeed. What a laugh.

To YOUR Success,

Steven Wagenheim

Building a Successful Home Based Business While Keeping Your Family Happy Too!

When you are just starting out on online you have to, like any other endeavor, devote a lot of time familiarizing yourself with many new things. The terms word documents, spreadsheets and HTML for example, were unheard of just a few years ago. Unless you could afford the time and money to take evening courses or you were lucky enough to have a job that taught those things you were pretty much on your own to learn them.

When I first started selling on the internet five years ago, I used to spend hours browsing the web trying to teach everything required to start an online business. Asking my family to help out was pointless. My husband knew less about computers than I and my kids had no patience to explain it so they just did it for me.

During the week, when I was home alone, most of my day hours were devoted to uninteresting but necessary house chores namely cleaning, grocery shopping and laundry among other things. By mid-afternoon I would work maybe one hour on the computer and that was what my children saw when they got home. Seeing me glued to my laptop every afternoon lead them to the conclusion that I was spending my whole day online.

The same thing happened when my husband got home from work. Once again after spending a couple of hours prior to his arrival preparing supper and meals for the following day, I would retreat to the computer just prior to his arrival. His reaction? You got it. "Dear, why are you always on the computer"? He just doesn't understand.

Trying to explain to your family that you don't spend that much time online is a losing battle. Instead, this is my solution:

It is better to do everything in reverse. By this I mean, start off your day doing all your online work. Leave the cooking and cleaning until the afternoon after everyone gets home. So relax, sit on your backyard deck with your laptop and telephone and enjoy the fresh air! Why would you spend the most productive hours of the day on activities that do not bring in any money anyway? (Let alone satisfaction). I have never heard my kids complain to me that I spend too much time cooking or cleaning but me being on the computer for several hours bothers them. Have snacks ready to serve when the kids arrive. If they are less cranky, they may even help with the chores!

After dinner, do not open the computer as tempting as it may be. Spend time with your spouse and children and they will appreciate it. Let them retreat to their rooms first. This way they have no reason to complain if you go on the computer as well. I have been working this way for the past several months and it has been working like a charm! Give it a try.

MLM Training - Staying on Track When Qualifying Your Prospects

The primary goal when qualifying your prospects is to gather enough information to enable you to then invite your prospect to take action and either take a look at your products or your MLM business. It's really one of the main points that I need to make because it will help you stay on track -- and that is to recognize when you do have enough information or when you don't have enough information.

Because a lot of times your are going to meet prospects who are going to try to move you faster through the qualifying phase than you're ready for.

Let me remind you quickly of the five steps on how to effectively invite your prospects to action. These network marketing tools will serve you well throughout your business. They are:

 Greeting your prospect
 Qualifying your prospect
 Inviting your prospect to action
 Handling questions and objections
 Close your prospect to action

You can see that there is a deal of work to do before entering the invite phase. If you haven't got enough information when qualifying your prospects and they are pushing with questions, how do you stay on track?

Let's suppose that I asked the first question as I start to qualify the prospect, and the person says, "How much does this cost?" or "What's the name of the company?"

They are basically moving into the inviting to action phase by asking questions and raising objections while you are still gathering information to qualify them. You have to be the one who controls the conversation, and you've got to handle that very succinctly and very accurately. Otherwise you run the risk of upsetting them, and then they're going to shut down, and they're definitely not going to talk freely and openly with you. Although you may still be gathering information to qualify your prospect you want to make sure that you maintain control of the conversation, and so, to hold their interest, you give a very brief answer to their question.

If they are asking the name of the MLM company and you feel comfortable in giving the name of the company, give them the answer and then just get right back on track and ask them another qualifying question.

So, for example, one way you can stay on track and retain control of the conversation it could go like this:

"What's the name of the company?" and you were to say, "Well, it's XYZ Company. I appreciate the questions that you're asking, and I'm sure you've got a lot of them. What I'm trying to do on my end is see that there is a good fit. See if the things that you desire, we can deliver. But I am not quite there yet. I know quite a bit about the company that I'm representing, but I don't know a whole lot about what it is that you need. Once I know that, I can tell whether or not it's a fit. So about the business that you're looking for, are you open to..."

and then you move right back into it.

So I didn't ignore the person and their question even though I was still in the qualifying step. That's almost the worst thing that you could do. I actually answered them. I then validated what it was that they asked, and then I moved on.

One of the network marketing tips I want to ask you to remember that when you approach each prospect with the genuine mindset that you are there to help them, you will be flexible enough to field their questions making them feel that you are listening to them, drawing them to you, and still staying on track when qualifying your prospects.

Yournetbiz Mentors - Choose Carefully!

I've just been reflecting on when I joined Yournetbiz and it occurred to me how just important the role of the mentor really is. If you join through Yournetbiz, you will have to join through someone, you cannot simply join directly through Yournetbiz. The theory is that whoever you join with will become your mentor and guide you to success, it makes sense really, the company wants you to have someone there who you can turn to for support.

Whilst it's a great theory, I've discovered it's not working as well as it should be. I'm not going to name and shame but let's just say there are quite a few mentors out there that are not providing the support they should be. Let's stop for a second and say you join Yournetbiz as a platinum member which will costs you $2995 of your hard earned money. Of that, $2000 will go straight into the pocket of the 'mentor' you joined through. Now, I don't know about you, but if someone had effectively paid me $2000 I would be working my a**e off to get them up and running and making money! Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be the case, and people are joining and just being left to get on with it, no calls to check on they're progress or offer advise, taking day's to respond to emails (and then only giving a 1 sentence answer), no action plan, quite frankly nothing that could justify the term 'mentoring'. It would seem as soon as some people have got they're $2000 all the promises of being there whenever they're needed goes out the window.

This is extremely damaging to Yournetbiz's reputation. There are people quitting Younetbiz completely because they just aren't' getting anywhere and are obviously left with a really bad impression of Yournetbiz. There is only so much you can do yourself and if you haven't got the guidance of a good mentor, you don't stand a chance of getting anywhere. You wouldn't be able to pass your driving test without some sort of instruction would you? It's the same thing.

The good news is there are some superb mentors out there and with guidance you can make fantastic money with Yournetbiz. I was on the verge of giving up after 2 months of hard work and not getting anywhere, I'd had very little in the way of guidance and just couldn't see how it could work. I then got chatting to a guy who in the space of an hour gave me more advise and tips than I had in 2 months of so called 'mentorship'! He has genuinely been available whenever I needed a question answered or just some general advice. And all for free and with nothing to gain! And I have taken on his philosophy of helping anyone if I can.

So please be careful when your choosing who to join with. If you want to know anymore please get in touch I am more than happy to share everything I've learnt with you.

What Happens If Your Business is Horribly Successful

I don't want this to be a really long article, but I wanted to talk about what happens when things go right. I mean they go really right. When your hopes and dreams about a successful business come true in a week, or a month, rather than the one to two years or more that businesses usually take to start up. When you are starting with no money and you get publicity you weren't expecting, or perhaps your purchased or free advertising works better than you expected it to, and you get flooded with orders or requests for information, and you just don't have the money or ability to keep up with this much business. I mean, you do have to buy product first in order to deliver it to your customer, in order to collect from your customer. That's called accounts receivable. In some cases you have to deliver free information to a potential customer before it is converted into an order. This can add up to a lot of money fronted.

We lived this dream turned nightmare, as we went from getting one customer order our first week to being drowned in orders. It was two of us, one working a full-time job and the other a full-time stay-at-home mom. We built our website and got it listed several places. We got the granddaddy of them all at the time, a top spot on Yahoo for the product name. We did not have the capability of taking credit cards, so we shipped the product to the customer with an invoice and they sent back a check. This worked for us for a while but soon it was too much to manage. I charged $30,000 a month on my American Express fearful for the day I could not pay it on time.

We switched to taking credit cards and took a haircut with the fees, but we got our money in two days. We went beyond cases of 12 bottles to ordering master cases of 144, to ordering 12 master cases at a time. Each of the cases was about $350 or so, so we're talking about $30,000+ worth of product delivered at a time to a three bedroom townhouse. Our business quickly took over our garage and our whole house. We were constantly working until midnight trying to keep up.

At one time, our vendor was completely out of the product we sold, and we could not get it. We set up an autoresponder email that said that we were out of product and were waiting, but we would ship as soon as it was available. Nobody cancelled. We shipped when it came in and everyone paid without a fuss.

We got email after email from potential customers and distributors for free information. I created a program that converted our emails into mailing labels because we couldn't rekey the information. At one time I also converted product orders into mailing labels and credit card information that we could run right into the credit card program. Later we switched to using a secure server for orders where we would print the order information from the screen; so at that point we had to rekey order information.

We had to subscribe to a telephone system to prevent calls from coming in during the nighttime, although our fax machine would be cranking out the paper all night long. The telephone system took some pressure off of us by distributing phone calls to some of our distributors. Once we bought our current house, we got a four line telephone server and set it up for our own purposes.

Many of the ways we did business kept customers that we attained from our free advertising, but the original inflow was crazy. Please take our experience to heart and be prepared for the unexpected.

Is it Good to Be Different?

When I was in elementary school, my naturally curly hair was not considered an asset. Girls were supposed to have long straight hair with barrettes. Not this chicken! No matter how much I begged, my mother refused to fix my hair like the rest of the girls. My nickname was Phyllis Diller. Oh, and because my name is Dale I was on the boys registration list in second grade instead of the girls.

In high school, we had moved to the country so my parents could buy land to start a campground. The percentage of kids planning to go to college was quite small and as a result, it was not "cool" to be smart. I was a nerd. One of my sister's friends told her they heard her little brother was an honor student (there goes that name again.)

In college, I was enrolled in engineering school, and women were a minority. Some companies were giving preferential hiring treatment to women and minorities and it caused some tension between the guys and the gals. I always felt I earned what I got since I worked hard and kept a good grade average, but the tension was still there. Oh, and I got an invitation to join a fraternity (not a sorority) when I enrolled. My sister said I should show up at the house and see what they said. Ha, ha, ha.

I enjoyed sewing and when I graduated college and had more free time, I made most of my own clothes. Nobody made fun of me, but it did make me different. I think that was the first time being different actually got me respect. From then on in my professional career, being different finally became as asset. My name still gave me trouble sometimes. I signed up for the gym at one company and they gave me a locker in the men's room (I got it changed.)

Now that I am in network marketing and working on personal branding, I believe it is really an asset to be different! In his book "Endless Referrals", Bob Burg talks about how sending a handwritten note to people you meet at a networking event makes you stand apart from the crowd. I have been attending these events for 1 1/2 years and I have never received a note in the mail! I have received a few emails, that is all. So I can truly see how it would make you stand out, especially with the language he tells you to use.

How else can you stand out?
Care about people, be a "Go Giver"
Be honest, open, and transparent
Be respectful! Don't be an aggressive salesperson
Be persistent, in a good way
Be approachable, not arrogant. Drop the ego!I think if more people were different in these ways in the MLM industry, the industry wouldn't have such a bad rap! Greed and ego have taken their toll.

So don't be afraid to stand apart from the crowd, as long as you're on the high road!
