Isn't it interesting to see the different style applied by the many people within the networking marketing industry? There are those that enjoy the Tortoise approach as they take their time and smell the roses on their way to a smooth, almost effortless journey towards success. On the other hand there are the Hares that fly out of the blocks with wind in their sales and big dreams of annihilating anything and everything that comes in their way.
The poor old Hare just doesn't get it.
In terms of MLM, it is not a sprint! It's not the speed at which you come out of the blocks.
It's whether or not you have any juice in the tank towards the end of what is always a marathon.
A natural bi product to the hare mentality is the desire to recruit, recruit, recruit, putting in as many people as possible as if you are about to become knighted for your efforts. In my opinion, people deserve better than to be treated as a minor pawn in the bigger game that can become recruit, recruit, recruit.
This is and always will be a people business and your ability to lead, guide and get to know your people will be critical in your long term success. Naturally, there is the argument that you should flood your first line and let the pawns fight amongst themselves for your time. The end result of course is a strong committed core group and another group that has been left in their wake.
The corporate world is somewhere where this type of dog eat dog mentality is rife and maybe even an everyday occurrence. I'm yet to be convinced it is the best approach for the MLM industry. When we plant a seed, we start from scratch. The strength comes from nurturing, care and attention through to development.
Do we stick them in the sun with the parting words of good luck?
Is it an obligation that when we plant the seed, we commit to helping its growth? If it is weak, do we not spend the time to strengthen it or do we just plant some more? The fact is that there are certain animal species that are left to their own devices at very early ages. The choice is to either sink or swim. It is indeed a case where only the strong survive.
Personally I would prefer planting a seed and investing in is growth.
With a back ground in sales, the way forward for new starters is often to flood the market, plant seeds, get sales and to hell with the quality of them. Just get them. There is rarely a thought for long term relationships. In fact very few of the initial contacts will be the core of future sales. The commitment to long term growth generally does not exist.
With a hunger similar to new sales staff, many new MLM fortune seekers take off at a hundred miles an hour signing up people left right and centre. Whilst the efforts can be commendable, the process seems driven by the need to put a notch in the belt so to speak rather than the provision of solutions to the prospects. With the words of "treat it like a business" ringing in my ears, I ask you.
If you had to give $100 to every person you signed up, how many would you sign?
Would you be prepared to pay a wage to this person if it were a traditional business?
This business revolves around the success of your relationships. It's the trust and integrity along with your ability to lead, guide and support that will stand you in good stead. The truth is that recruiting in this business is a must and your ability to do it well is integral to your business...but at what cost?
Sometimes the hardest thing to do in business is to say no. It's not about filling your group with the first people that come along. It's about filling it with the Right people. People you really want to work with. Put the quality and personality checks in place prior to signing your future prospects. Take the risk and fill your downline with people you actually like and want to work with. The results will astound you.
The long term benefits may well be worth considering? Be true to yourself. Let your style be consistent with who you are and lead your group the same way you would hope to be led.
