So, we're all somewhat on our own; which is really a good thing. We can each choose cameras that produce good looking video compared to other talking head videos which are already out there. No one need purchase $50k cameras and complex lighting and audio gear. Most talking head videos will do just fine being recorded with a late model, higher end, HD web cam; with a couple of caveats.

The standard web cam setup clips on one's computer monitor which is usually too close to the talent. More distance is required from lens to face in order to avoid Big Nose Syndrome. Big Nose Syndrome is what the curvature of the lens does to a human nose when the face is too close to the lens. But, simply rolling the desk chair back away from the computer monitor on which the camera is clipped also moves the speaking voice further from the mic than was intended. Thus, echoey noises and unclear dialogue.

Backing off just enough to reduce the Big Nose Syndrome, yet stay close enough to the mic for relatively clear audio is the trick. Like all things new, run some tests to see how you do. If you have an alternative audio source that will work simultaneously with your web cam, it would better to use it instead of the webcam's onboard mic. A headset mic, or shotgun mic from off camera are almost certainly to produce better quality audio than the webcam's mic. Because the point of talking head videos is more the dialogue than the visual element, more care should be taken in making sure the audio is clear.

The head can either fill the screen (not my personal choice) or portray a head and shoulders shot.

Why Johnny Can't Make Money Online Part 3 - Head Full of Stuffing Syndrome

Unless you have an education in business, which isn't a guarantee that you're going to have any success in itself, you're coming into this with a head full of nothing. You're totally at a loss as to where to even begin. Unless you have friends who can help you, you're totally on your own. Most people will, at that point, turn to the search engines...Google being the search engine of choice for about 50% of the population.

And if you're like most people, you'll type in something like, "How can I make money from home?" After doing this, you'll get a list of about 300,000 sites IF you type this with quotes to try to narrow things down at least a bit. Still, 300,000 sites is a lot to choose from. And each one has something different to say. You'll find a number of suggestions for making money from home including affiliate marketing, freelancing, creating your own products, network marketing and on and on. The choices are endless.

Where do you begin? Most people will just pick something that interests them, if anything. But then there is the problem of, "Okay, this is what I want to do...how do I do it?" That's where we then get into web page design, promotional tactics, and so on. There are more ways to promote a product or service online than Carter has liver pills. When You're Down - Motivation For Network Marketers

The most critically important part of this quote is that the first thing that needs to be to be headed in the right direction if you are going to be successful is your head. Every great action starts with a great thought. One example from my life is illustrative of this principle. It was the end of March and I was getting ready for a marathon in September. At that point I was trying to run 15-20 miles a week, but with no real need to run fast or train hard because my real preparation wouldn't start until mid May. I was consistently running about 8:15 miles. Good for me, but not great. All of a sudden something happened. An announcement was posted at work stating that we would be having a race between employees and the boss! If you beat the boss you would get $50! I wanted to really kick butt at that race! I went out the night of the announcement and ran 3 miles. I had run three miles two days before and was right at that 8:15 pace. But that night...my pace was 7:15! A whole minute per mile faster, and I felt great! Why? What made the change? The only difference was that now in my head I saw a finish line, cheering crowds of co-workers, and a fresh $50 bill! Once my thought process changed, my entire performance changed. I ran faster and felt better than I had in months. Once again, the only difference was that I had "improved my head." The same is true with every part of life and business. You can only go as far as your ambition and imagination can take you. Pessimists rarely produce and cynics rarely contribute. If you have hit a wall or feel depressed or discouraged, you can usually start the process of improvement by starting with your head.

How do you do that?

One good place to start is your list of 20. Twenty things that you have done over the past year that have been successful and twenty things that you are exceptionally grateful for. This simple activity will help remind you of the great things in life and the great things that you can do. Something as simple as not getting upset at a child or friend can be an accomplishment! Something as little as getting a little better at managing your money. You have done 20 great things over the past year and you need to remember to be grateful for what you have and excited about the things you have done.

Another good way to get your mind going in the right direction is the same thing that had such an effect on my running. I suddenly had a new goal with a new date, a new reward, and a new goal time to shoot for. You can do the same thing for you in your life or business. Get out another piece of paper (after making your list of 20) and start writing or drawing. What do you want to have happen? (for me beating the boss and running a 5K in under 20 minutes.) How will your life be different both physically and emotionally? (for me $50 and the admiration of my co-workers J) Why do you want this? What would be the effect if you didn't get it? How will you feel when you get it? These powerful questions will help you start getting your head in the right place.

Once you have made the metal changes needed you simply need to start deciding what your next steps are. For me it was getting online and following a running program that set out daily workouts that got me ready to run my race. You may turn to a trusted friend or family member to get some ideas on how to implement the ideas that you have developed or the path may become clear on its own. No matter what your #2 and #3 steps are your #1 step is always to get your head going in the right direction and everything else will tend to follow!
