In today's world of modern technology, more and more people have opted to work at home instead of in what some consider the "normal" workplace. Some have started their own internet businesses, others are working freelance as writers, data processors, authority bloggers and then there are some who still have their old jobs, and just work from home using links from their computer to the company one. More and more businesses are beginning to understand and utilise the benefits of having their employees work from home instead of coming in to an office setting.
Why is this?
Because of the abundance of benefits from working at home. There are numerous benefits, and many of them are health related. When you are working away from home, there are many factors that effect your health, some that you may not even be aware of. For one thing, you often grab whatever you can for lunch, and often this means buying fast food, a dry canteen sandwich, grabbing from the snack machine, or simply just skipping lunch altogether because you just don't have the time. Working at home, you can stop whenever you want, make a healthy lunch that will be cheaper and more tasty than anything you would get from a fast food or snack machine.
Nowadays, one of the biggest problems in the regular workplace is stress, and stress is the precursor to many physical and psychological ailments. You are on a busy schedule, have deadlines, and it seems that you are always on the go. You may or may not get on with the people you have to spend 8 hours a day with, you have to present yourself in a certain way, take breaks only when you are allowed, sit where you are told. Not to mention dealing with workloads dictated by other people and travelling to and from work in the busiest times.
These stresses can have a negative impact on your health. When the natural stress response of the body does not abate, chronic stress can lead to raised blood pressure, difficulty sleeping, immune system repression and even contributes to the aging process. Not to mention irritability, anger outbursts and depression. As you can imagine, all this can also affect the overall wellness of your family, because usually even try as you may, these stresses come home with you and effect your loved ones too.
Working at home relieves a multitude of stresses. You can take a break whenever you feel like it, spend time with your spouse, your kids, and when you are working you are comfortably at home, and in a peaceful environment. There is no need to travel during rush hour, there is no need to get up super early in the morning (unless you feel like it!), or come home extremely late in the evening. You can set your own schedules and your own time lines. You do not have to work with anyone you don't like, and you can have whatever you want on your desk!
Working at home also has other health benefits as well. When you are at a regular work place, you are exposed to all kinds of germs and bacteria, usually from people who come to work sick, and inadvertently spread it around to other people. Or from people who are less than hygienic using your phone or desk. You get sick, miss work days, bring your illness home with you, or struggle on regardless. When working at home you are less exposed to these problems, and can maintain your overall health much better. If you do get ill and want to carry on working, well you can work in bed!
If you are working at home, you can fit in exercise more easily and everyone knows that more exercise equals better health. You can exercise, shower and get back to work within the hour, no problem. Or you could take 15 minutes to meditate each day, an excellent way to stay on top of things and rejuvenate your mind. If there are household or family related chores that need doing, well you can do those in your break and not have to worry about fitting them in at the weekend.
Contrary to popular thought, working for yourself from home has more job security than a regular job. What is secure about having a job that you could lose if someone uttered two little words to you, (you're fired)? You can also work on more than one business, therefore increasing your salary as many times as you want.
All these things - diet, exercise, peace, extra time, avoiding unnecessary travel, spending more time with family, generating extra income etc. have unlimited benefits to your peace of mind and health of body. Doing what you love at home in order to earn money. Doing it your way. Being in control of your life. Well, what could be better than that?
