Avoid These 5 Pitfalls When You Work at Home

Once you have done your research and embarked on your course, there will be pitfalls to avoid during the early months.

1. No written plan or log
It is imperative to have a written journal. There are two aspects to this philosophy.

Business Plan
Wikipedia defines a business plan as a formal statement of a set of business goals, the reasons why they are believed to be attainable, and the plan for reaching those goals. If you do not know how to write a business plan, there are many resources available on the internet. It does not have to be complicated. Start simple, review it monthly, and it will continue to grow.

Daily Log
As your business becomes more complicated, it is important to write down everything that you have accomplished that day. As time goes by, you may not remember what action you did when. You can use something as simple as a spiral notebook (don't tear out sheets for other things) or create an excel sheet. As you are working through your day, you will find that there are several items that was not accomplished. Start them on the next day's log and check mark off as they are accomplished.

2. Time Management
One of the decisions you must make when considering a work at home job is how much time you can allocate. Then, you must be committed. If you are doing this part time, commit 1 to 2 hours a day during your work week and several hours on the weekend. If you are doing this full time, set your office hours. Divide your time into small segments for certain things, such as reading and sending emails, research, marketing, etc. If you have Microsoft Outlook or some other type of Calendar program, block out your times.

3. Focus
It is so easy to lose your focus. When marketing on the internet, it is so easy to go off on a tangent, which leads to another tangent, then to another. Many times you are overwhelmed by all the choices. Don't allow this to happen. If something catches your eye, make a note in your log for further exploration. But stay on task. That is one of the distinct advantages of your daily log.

4. Discouragement
Don't fall prey to discouragement. It is very easy to set up unrealistic expectations and allow yourself to feel discouraged and want to give up if they are not met. Will it happen? Most generally yes. But, that is another benefit of your written progress.

5. You
Unfortunately, we are our own worst enemy. We allow the doubts of ourself and others cloud our vision. Go back to your written goals and your logs. Have you gotten off track. Use your progress here to remind yourself that all is possible with hard work and dedication.

This Wealthy Affiliate Member Log is my way of describing to you just what WA is, and whether or not joining would be a good option for you. First off, WA is not a get rich quick scheme. They do not promise "unlimited income in the first few days!" like so many other websites. In fact, that is what initially sparked my interest. So just what is WA? Simply put, it is THE BEST place online to train to become an Internet Marketer. But don't take it on my word alone, read on to find out why this could be a great opportunity for you!

I began working on my Wealthy Affiliate Member Log a week or two after joining because it is necessary. If you're on the outside looking in, it is of great benefit to you to have information from the source. So to get back to my earlier question "just what is WA?" The full name is known as Wealthy Affiliate University, and the website really is laid out like an online course you would find at a college! WA was created by two college friends, known to the community as Kyle & Carson. These two had been working at internet marketing for over 8 years! Put it this way... when I first logged in, the very first thing I saw was a course entitled "Action Plan". I clicked into it, and it turns out it's a 12 week course designed to take anyone (even those that are very new to Internet Marketing) from a beginner, to a fully fledged marketer! It features step by step instructions, and an action oriented approach that keeps you working while you learn. I'm only about a fourth of the way through the course, but as a complete beginner, I can say it works... I'm already making my own websites and learning how to effectively market them.

If you've done any research on WA before reading this article, you've probably heard of their well known Member Forums and how helpful they are. The word on the street is definitely no lie. I myself was skeptical of these forums, but once I took a look inside, my mind was changed forever. The forums are simply over flowing with information... help guides and instructional content (most of which is written by members themselves!) Even Kyle & Carson are active participants and offer one on one assistance. More often than not, all of my questions have been in answered in less than a day. And believe me, I've been asking a lot of questions haha. It's nice knowing that if I ever get lost, there is always someone who will understand what I'm dealing with, and know just what to do.
