Is Network Marketing Gender Specific?
Business is business. And guess what? Business does not recognize gender. But it does recognize commitment and a desire to succeed. It doesn't matter what product you sell, what service you sell, or if you are male of female, as long as you want to succeed. Yet many men, and women, will view certain businesses as gender specific. Automobile parts, men. Skin care, women. Life insurance, men. Clothing, women. Sports equipment, men. Flower shops, women. I think you get the picture. Now, what about network marketing? Is this industry more suited for men or more suited for women? If you think this industry is gender specific you are making a big mistake, and possibly missing on some great opportunities. If you find a business opportunity that is right for you are you going to pass it up because of some stereotype of who should be selling that product? Many women are very successful at network marketing. But so are many men. It has nothing to do with gender. Of course some women do better with certain product line, just as some men do. But that does not preclude a man or woman from being successful selling a product line that people associate with the other sex. Think about hair-care. Women, if they are honest with you, will choose a male hair dresser over a female one. Men would rather ask a male sales clerk about home do-it-yourself projects with a man rather than a woman. There are many examples but it doesn't matter as long as the person providing the product or service knows what they are doing. Some will argue that MLM is better suited for women because they have less trouble talking to other women about "shopping". And MLM is about getting others to shop. It's too bad people think this way because business does not work that way. If you can talk you can be successful at network marketing. This industry is full of men who sell "women" product lines and women who sell "men" product lines. Business is about making money. If you think anything different you will have some difficulty building your business. How we think is so important in business yet many people think that certain products are only for the opposite sex. If you find a product line that you like and feel you could build a successful business with it, wouldn't it make sense to embrace it rather than leave it for someone else? Many times I have gone to the hardware store plumbing department and had a lady sales clerk solve my problems. If you know your product you will be able to sell it. It doesn't matter if you are male or female and it doesn't matter what the product is. Remember business is not about gender.Scott Cameron has been an educator and entrepreneur for over 25 years.
