A Few Ideas for Making Money With Your Digital Camera

Many business opportunities that you can start and run from your own home are simply reactive. That is, you have to wait for someone to contact you before you can make money.

Using your digital camera is certainly not reactive in that sense.

Strictly speaking, I suppose, it's wrong to call making money with your digital camera a home business opportunity at all, since most of the time you are out and about searching for great photographs to take.

One of the many ways to ride around taking photos and getting paid to do it is to become a 'Field Inspector.

No, I didn't know what it was either until a short while ago.

If you drive for your current job and want some extra income, then this is ideal.

How do you make some money?

Well insurance companies, etc. need people to be able to take specific pictures and, depending on the area you live in, you could expect to be contacted on a regular basis. You agree the location and then pop along and take some photos. Send them off by email and get paid.

More conventional ways of using your camera to make money are:

(1) Upload your photographs to 'paid for' sites on the internet.

Thousands of people are looking to use photos on their websites every single day.

Most will, of course, try to get their pictures for nothing, but a substantial number will want specialist photographs that they are willing to pay for. This is where you come in to make a good living. You can specialise or generalise. It's entirely up to you and what you feel comfortable doing.

(2) Another way is to advertise your services for weddings, etc. A small advert in a local paper is all it takes and word of mouth will do the rest of the advertising for you. Don't forget to advertise your business every time you go to a function.

(3) If you're a sports fan and regularly support your local team, then you've a ready-made opportunity. The club, the local newspaper, even national papers all look for great action photos.

Keep your camera at the ready and keep clicking.

(4) Finally, when you're on holiday I'm sure you take the usual photos. Well if you think a little bit about it, travel companies are always on the lookout for interesting and unusual views of places. Use your imagination and search out the different angle on an area or building. Send your photos off to travel companies and you never know, they may very well commission you to go somewhere exotic to take some photos for them!

Once you get started with one little money earner, I'm sure you'll find other possibilities keep popping up. Just keep taking photographs and make the money.

Publications

If you are planning to get your photographs published, one of the things that you need to do is to first create a theme. Perhaps, if you love traveling, make sure that all your photographs are all about traveling different parts of the world. You could even narrow down these themes and choose between film format and digital format, or you could also choose between black and white and colored photographs.

There are great numbers of free software online that allows you to format your photo book and from there, you could now find a good publication group that would be interested with your work. If in case you are someone new in the field, you could even sell these photo books online.

Commercial Photography

If you are going to tryout commercial photography, might as well study the things that may interest your target market. If you are targeting a client with a site meant for construction materials and industrial machines, it would be useful if you will show them something related to the products they are selling. With these photographs, your client makes your photographs useful for their web home page or for other advertising purpose.

In summary, if you want to make money from photos, the number one thing that you need to do is to take a lot of photographs throughout the week. Be reminded that shots worth a buck would be rare, which should prompt you to shoot some more.

How To Get Cheap Stock Photos

It's unbelievable how expensive stock photos are these days. There are sites around the internet now where people are paying as much as $15 for a single photo - or even more! Are you aware that you can find thousands of quality, high-resolution, royalty free stock photos all for only $1 each? Why would you pay more?

Why Is Stock Photography So Expensive?

Remember back in the 90's when everyone used cheesy clip art? It was incredibly tacky, but it was free - so everybody used it. Stock photography was available, but used more by professionals, designers and people who saw value in spending money for images.

However, as people began to realize their clip art was less than appealing, stock photography started becoming mainstream. More and more websites selling stock photos began springing up - some poor or average quality, but some very good. As the popularity of stock photography grew more and more - to the point where now, even the average person will purchase stock photography rather than using clip art - so did the prices. The sites falling into the "very good" category realized their value, and also realized that people would pay more for nicer stock images. As a result, prices have risen and risen over the past several years. Today, you can find stock photos for sale anywhere from a few dollars to $15+ per photo.

That's Just Crazy.

Paying that much for a digital picture is just crazy. And there's no excuse for quality royalty-free stock photos to ever cost more then a couple bucks. Luckily, there is still reasonably priced stock available on the internet - you just have to know where to look.

If you are looking for a balance of both quality and value - great looking photos at a great price - you can learn more at [http://www.cheapeststockphotos.com]cheapest stock photos.

Turn Your Travel Photos Into Cash

Ever thought your holiday photos look better than some postcards? Ever upload them on Facebook and get a tonne of great comments? If that's you then you need to read this article. Instead of your photos just clogging up your hard drive why not try to make a return on some of them? You can make money from all kinds of photos and images online. Making money from your photos is one of the best kept secrets on the web.

Even a novice can point and snap a good picture depending on lighting, landscape and emotion going on in the picture. Believe it or not photos that capture these techniques correctly, particularly pictures showing some form of emotion are really sort after by businesses, websites, magazines, news papers and many more. They pay certain companies who store these photos and if you're the author then you get the commission.

So can an amateur do this? Of course! I am certainly no expert at taking photos but I've done some extensive travelling and while I'm away I always try to get a great shot of everything. I happen to have some particularly great shots that look like postcards themselves and these are of a shark dive I did in Hawaii with my underwater camera, another shot being on an African safari of a crocodile looking dangerously close the camera and even just picturesque landscape snaps from places like the Croatian Islands, Hamilton Island, Paris and the list goes on.

When anyone asked how I took such great shots I'd tell them it was 'the location at the right time, that's all'. I'm sure you use your cameras in everyday situations as well and these types of photos are also sort after by companies too.

Don't believe me? Well take these examples of what other people have made online with just simple photos. A photo of a family playing on the beach earned its owner $370 in one month, a picture of a business meeting earned its owner $479 in one month and my particular favourite a picture of just green grass earned its owner $638 in its first month.

Of course there are certain guidelines when it comes to photography but once you learn certain skills such as model release forms, property release forms, which photos sell and which don't, or which ones won't be accepted as well where to find the right company & website for your photos. But don't worry it's easy, once you have your photos uploaded online all you need to do is sit back and what the commissions roll in. rel=nofollow [http://www.nothingbutadventure.com/adventureimages.html]Learn how here.

Need Income? Ready Made Frames Can Launch a Hobby or a Home Business

Social media networks have created a flood of people interacting with each other about every imaginable subject. People are sharing gossip, news, recipes, tips, advice, videos and photos. You name, people are sharing it. People want to find out about everyone and every thing. There are tons of uploaded photographs, art, illustrations and other visual art. Stock photography sites offer free photos as well as inexpensive visual art. If you take the flood of information online and merge it with ready made frames, you may find a new hobby or a business.

The do it yourself culture has people giving away advice, freebies like photos, electronic books and software. If you enter a keyword search term for custom or do it yourself t-shirts, posters, public domain photographs, stock photographs or free software or electronic books, you can discover some ways that the internet is hard at work sharing the wealth. You need only decide how to take advantage of what the internet has to offer.

Popular social networks that allow photo sharing, as well as information sites that have common use licenses or free commercial licenses are great resources to find free photos. Photos can be used for personal projects, hobby related projects or business related projects. Browse the available content for each site. You can collect pictures into your own file storage space.

It is a good idea to download and then upload free photos along with any restrictions and the link. This way, should a website experience hacking problems, dissolve business, or decide to start charging, you already have photos. Plus, if you decide to explore business opportunities, you can use the photos on your promotional websites or literature without worrying about merchandise photos disappearing.

You can organize your photo collection into common themes. Review shopping websites and retail sites offline to see what types of photos people are buying. Look over the visual layout, composition, color, and the frame used for best sale. You can also browse flea markets and visit online communities of shoppers to hear about and see what others are sharing about what they buy.

Market research can be done by using keyword search tools that trend. Using a major search engine, find one of the top web site analytic sites that ranks other websites, and then enter "keyword tool". This will provide the top tools such as those monitoring activity on social media websites where people chatter in real time. You can find out what types of conversations people are having about photos and their shopping plans. For other keyword trending tools, you can also drill down to find out whether and when people in your state or city are discussing photographs and types of photographs.

Special events such as St. Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day and other annual events can help target collecting free photos for personal, hobby or business use. For businesses, creating framed art for office decor, or to repackage for staff gifts, promotional marketing, or for resale, can be effective and efficient use of time and money.

The U. S. Small Business Administration provides small business loans to launch a business. Keeping costs down to launch an online or retail business can be part of a winning business proposal. Recycling online photos into art or promotional products with ready made frames can be personally rewarding and launch a home business. [http://www.suite101.com/writer_articles.cfm/boomtown]Boomtown. Photography As A Career

Have you ever said this? "If I could do anything, I'd spend my life behind the lens of a camera." You can make it happen. You can combine your passion to take pictures with any one of your other interests and create a fascinating career.

Decide if you want to do general photography or if you want to specialize. If you live in a small community, you don't need to specialize unless you want to. However, most photographers specialize as they get more experience and get a sense of the best markets for their work.

There are several areas of photography that you can specialize in.

If you like interacting with people, you could specialize in portraits. You could take your specialization one step further in this niche and specialize in portraits of newborns and babies.

You can take school photos and class pictures. Take your specialization one step further in this niche by taking sports-team photos and class reunion photos.

Wedding photographs offer a lot of contact with clients.

If you don't like interacting with people, perhaps you like taking pictures of animals. You can spend your days photographing dogs at dog shows or do feline photos by taking pictures of cats or go to an equestrian show and take pictures of horses.

Perhaps you like to take pictures of things that don't move. You could take photos for companies that need photos of products for advertisements, catalogs and sales materials.

If serving impatient and squirming people or animals and meeting deadlines of assignments are not your taste, you can do stock photography. Stock photography is an $800 million a year field. Stock photography is taking pictures of virtually any topic and sell them to people who are seeking some particular photo for use in books, promotional materials, documentaries and so forth.

You can specialize in taking photos of just about anything that fascinates you.

Two great magazines of photography are Popular Photography and American Photo. You can get these in a bundle. Popular Photography draws upon top professionals in the field to inform committed readers who are passionate about taking pictures. American Photo is the premier showcase for outstanding photography. You can get 12 issues of Popular Photography and 6 issues of American Photo for the low cost of $20.00. That is 78% off the news stand price.

Ideas for Setting Up Your Own Business

Obviously, if you are able to offer a service or a profession already then that may be able to be turned into your own home business. If you are, for example, qualified as an insurance or a mortgage broker, then you could become self employed there. But, what about the rest of us?

Distributing catalogues
Is this one of the oldest home working schemes? From Avon to Kleeneze to Betterware and many others. Make sure that you stick to the names that are known and can be trusted and do not invest cash you are not happy to lose, if it all fails. Sometimes you have to pay for the catalogues so that can be a risk.

Then arrange a round with your supplier (so that you are not on an existing agent's patch) and drop the catalogues through doors. Start going back a while later, collecting the catalogues and hopefully some orders. Post the collected catalogues through more doors and so on. Eventually you will get to know which houses return the catalogues and which order and those that do neither to steer clear of in the future!

Become a party host
It may have started many years ago with Tupperware, but there are still plenty of parties out there that you can host. Anne Summers for those wanting more fun to cosmetics and cook ware for the more mainstream markets. Sign up and hold a party for your friends. Encourage them to hold a party for their friends and let you do your stuff. They get a great night in and you can both earn commissions and hopefully one or two of the guests will let you host parties at their houses.

Sell some photos
You don't need to be able to take perfect pictures for this, just very good pictures on a good quality camera. If you have some well shot photos you can then sign up to a variety of stock photo directories and upload the pictures to there. As each one is sold you should earn a commission. Each directory usually has instructions directing you on how to produce photographs of the quality that they demand. Once you have an account and can produce suitable photographs your job is to just keep taking pictures!

Sell some artwork on items
Whether it is fine art, cartoons or even photos, you can quite often sell them on a variety of items from clothing to key rings to mugs. Whether you are good at cartoons or can write slogans that appeal to teenagers, there are sites about that you can then upload the finished artwork to that will then take care of the sales, printing and distribution of the goods. It just helps if you can push your own products a little bit to increase sales!

Making Photo Mugs - Fun At Home

Why mugs?
Why photo mugs? Well if you can take a decent photo you have the required artwork to make something a little different. And mugs are very popular in all sorts of situations - most people use at least a couple during the day. They are brilliant for self indulgent purchases, gifts and souvenirs.

Preparing some images
So the best way to source photos is to take them yourself. Get your camera, head out and start snapping. Just make sure that you aren't taking photos of people without their permission. Then get back home and open up your photos in Photoshop or a similar tool. Decide which are the best and then clean them up. You might want to remove coloured backgrounds or tidy them up. Maybe remove objects that are intruding or whatever. Just make sure that the photos do the business and look high quality.

Producing the mugs
The best thing about this idea is that you do not actually need to create any stock! Sign up to a site such as CafePress, PrintFection or wherever you prefer. Upload your pictures, set up your account to sell them as mugs and hey presto, you have a website selling photo mugs and it is not costing you anything! For every sale that is made they will pass you your commission. It is as simple as that!

Increasing the sales
Although the sites that you use to create and distribute your artwork will try to generate some sales through their directories, you can be doing a lot yourself to generate more sales. But, if you start doing SEO work and the likes linking directly to your free website, then a lot of the effort is wasted, especially if you want to move provider. Instead, you are better off setting up a basic site.

A quick and easy website
Go to Blogger, go to WordPress.com, buy some hosting and install a blog or whatever you prefer. Just do whatever you want to create a simple blog. Now, write a post or two about one of the photo mugs and link from the post to the sales page. Finally, start some link building, article writing, PPC campaigns or whatever you want to try and send visitors directly to the relevant page on your blog. Give your home page in your signature in emails and forums and whatever else you can do to generate traffic.

Digital Photography For Creating Stock

The whole point of stock photography for creating stock is to create images for someone else to use for their purposes. Most of us are used to shooting for our own usage so we are not thinking about what someone else may want in a photograph. When shooting for others, you need to change your usual mindset and put yourself in the shoes of the customers you are trying to please.

To do this, the first thing to know is, who your customers are. That's going to be difficult to pinpoint because stock photo customers can be anyone, from a blogger looking to enhance their blog post with a picture, to a graphic designer looking for a photo to use in a clients project, to a large advertising agency building an ad campaign.

The best approach is to pick a niche to specialize in. Review the photographs currently in your library and determine what subjects you focused on. What do you like taking pictures of the most? Do you prefer to shoot indoors, in a studio, or outdoors, in nature? Do you like shooting people, animals, trees, insects, etc? Become a photo specialist on one or two subjects.

Don't have a preference. Look through some magazines to see what's hot. Start with the ones that appeal to you the most. Many magazines use stock images. Look for photos that tell a story. Other places to look for ideas are:

Billboards
Menus
Brochures
Store Flyers
Pamphlets
Mailings
Websites

Keep a file of the images you like the most. Cut them out of the magazines and other sources you choose, and put them in a folder. Keep a notebook with notes of the images you liked best. Write down any ideas that come to mind so you can refer to them later.

Ask yourself these questions:

What types of photos do I like creating best?
What is it about these photos that interests me?
What skills and resources do I have for creating these photos?
What are the predominant colors used in the photos I have collected?
What are the predominant themes?

Doing this will help you become more attuned to how stock photos are used, and, narrow down your focus to those you are most interested in creating. This will also help you decide what gear you need to create the best stock images. Do you need a better tripod for stabilizing your camera, a macro lens for closeup shots, or a special prop to create your shooting scene.

The opportunities for creating stock photography are all around you. Start your stock collection slow, set your goals, and keep experimenting with new things. Eventually you will have a library of quality images to build a successful online business out of.
