Technology in NYC

In my time living in New York I realized there are few very unique aspects of NYC itself that make it so incredible not only to live, but also to innovate and build companies.

Firstly, New York is the number one city in the world that ambitious people strive to come to. No matter whether it is fashion, technology, art, finance, tourism, real estate, or a number of other fields, people know that NYC is a place that can make their dreams come true if they work hard.

Another reason New York is so great is that about over 20 million people are in Manhattan on any given weekday and such a collective brain power in such a relatively small space creates an atmosphere where idea exchange spreads with lightning speed. Individuals as well as entire industries learn from one another.

New York has a mixture of an old and a new way of doing business. The old way is the work hard ethic that generations of immigrants brought to the city. It is also decades of networking that made Manhattan into such a hub. Connecting people is a favorite pastime of New Yorkers as they understand the value of networking better than anyone.

New York also has a unique energy about it. Every generation seems to create something amazing from the garment industry to Wall street to the new wave of technological innovation. Plus Brooklyn is full of history of producing brilliant minds.

I highly recommend this wonderful city to any aspiring people who want to do great things in the world. But mind you, there is no free lunch in New York and competition is incredible. So come with mental strength and character mettle.

Profitable Bamboo Growing Secrets

A bamboo business can make you some big profits. Many growers are making over $50,000 a year. So how can you make that much? How can you turn you backyard nursery into a center of profitable plants. Here are some profitable bamboo-growing secrets that'll do just that:

1. Pay attention to other growers

Any business needs to know what their competition is up to: what products they offer and at what prices. It's certainly true for a bamboo business. Keep track of the market. Buy gardening magazines, visit the web sites of other growers and order catalogs. Visit your local garden center. Are you growing what people want to buy? Pay particular attention to the prices of your competitors. Are your prices competitive? Your prices don't necessarily need to be lower than everyone else's, but make sure yours are at least competitive with theirs.

2. Maps of growers

Many newspapers and counties print maps of local growers and farmers that sell directly to the public. If you're selling directly to public, be sure to get your backyard nursery on the map. You could get a lot of business from people that might not have known about you otherwise.

3. Newspaper article

Newspapers love to write articles about new businesses, especially ones that are providing unique products. Write up a press release or a fact sheet that tells what your bamboo business has to offer. Send it to your local newspaper and you just might get an article written about you. Best of all, this doesn't cost you a cent, nor does it take a long amount of time. It's free advertising.

4. Garden center sales

Selling your bamboo plants to garden centers is a great way to make good money. Plus they often buy in large quantities, and will want to buy again and again. If can you grow exactly what they're looking for and at a price lower than what they've paid in the past, you could see a lot of business. The best way to get sales from garden centers is to sell to buyers in the off-season, as they'll have more time to talk to you.

5. Sell bamboo products

Bamboo can be used to make a variety of things. Get creative. Have fun with it. Harvested poles, in particular, can be made into value-added products, such as fencing, privacy screens, water pipes, garden art and parrot stands.

6. Container-grown plants

Once your plants are ready to propagate, consider growing your "for sale" bamboo plants in containers, such as pots and planters. Container-grown plants can be sold almost any time of the year. Make sure you use containers that can "breath," as this will help ensure sufficient drainage.

Follow these six profitable bamboo-growing secrets and you could be on your way to big profits in a very short time. Soon your bamboo business could be the talk of the town. To learn more, read Golden Harvest, available at: rel=nofollow http://extraincomebulletin.com

How to Make Money Selling FREE Stuff on eBay

Ok, so you sold off all your useless Christmas presents, you sold off your clothes that are too tight and just about everything else you found lurking in the cupboards, you sold them all on eBay along with your soul and now, you have no STUFF left to sell - Right? WRONG....

What about all the FREE stuff?

The FREE stuff, you say?

Yes, I have a very good friend who makes a very good part time income on eBay, and amongst the things she sells are FREEBIES...

This is what she does...

You know those Sunday newspapers that give away DVD's & CD's, - well, what she does is go down to a store like WH Smith and asks the manager if she can come in just before closing time on Sunday and take away any left over DVD's or CD's that people leave behind when buying their newspapers.

The shop manager is usually only too glad to let you take them away as they just clutter up the store.

Now all these FREE products are worth money on eBay, you see - because not everybody knew about the "Frank Sinatra" compilation CD being given away with the Sunday Telegraph or the "Railway Children" DVD in the Sunday Mail.

The very same products that people DON'T WANT for FREE, are other people's DO WANT'S for CASH.

My friend sometimes gets 4.00 (about $6.00) or more for each FREE DVD or CD, plus you charge a little extra for postage.

Well, that's today's money making tip, remember - free stuff is everywhere, and some of it is worth MONEY!

Get Those Packaging and Shipping Supplies Ready - How to Start a Professional Online Store

So you've got these products that you're sure are going to sell like hotcakes, you just have no platform to really get them out there. Sure, you could go the traditional route and open a storefront, but that takes some serious cash. Plus, what if it doesn't work out? Then you're stuck with a store front, no business and whole lot of debt. Why not bypass that whole mess and go the most practical, and if you do it right, profitable route--an online store! An online store is the perfect avenue to take for someone interested in becoming a retailer, with the flexibility of working from home. Here are some steps you can take to get an online store up and running:

1) If you haven't already, you should really plan out what niche you want your store to fit into. You don't want it to be too broad of a category, because you'll have a hard time finding a market for it. In order to be competitive you'll need to find a specialty and do it well. The whole reason people shop online is so they can find certain special items easier (and hopefully cheaper) than they would find at a traditional retail store. If they wanted random stuff they'd shop at Wal-Mart.

2) If you aren't web savvy yourself, there are many online hosting sites that specialize in helping businesses create their own stores easily. Shopify.com for instance, is extremely user-friendly and offers customizable designs that you can tailor to match the vibe that you're going for with your online store. If you're looking for a free option, start at Vendio.com. Starting there is a good idea for first-timers because you can experiment with the e-store with minimal financial risk. All in all, when creating the site, you need to it be user-friendly, informative, and have the ability to present the products in an attractive manner that shows them off.

3) Once you have the site all set up, you need to get some packaging and shipping supplies. Depending on what type of products you're interested in selling, you'll most likely need boxes and packaging tape, bubble mailer envelopes, kraft paper, and maybe even some stretch wrap. Inadequate packaging and shipping supplies can really turn off customers, especially if the item is damaged or beat up when it's received. Also, proper packaging and shipping supplies can really make you look extremely professional. If you really want to go the extra mile with your customers, print up some labels with your store's logo or name on it and attach them to every package. It's also a good idea to include a business card with the website or maybe even a coupon for a future purchase in the package to make your business memorable to customer and encourage them to come back. One thing that many small e-retailers have done is include little personal touches to their packaging shipping supplies. These personal touches can include anything from a warm, handwritten note thanking them for their purchase, to a free-bonus gift just to show how much you appreciate their business.

Hopefully these tips have helped you get a better idea of where to start your online business. Good luck!

Making Scented Candles is a Breeze

A quick trip to the store will give you an idea that scented and aromatherapy candles are expensive. Making scented candles at home is a great money saver, plus it also allows you to create beautiful candles in your favorite scents. And the best part is, most of the things that you need for candle making can be found in your kitchen!

You will probably be amazed at the many different ways on how you can create homemade scented candles. You can create the perfect candles with very minimum costs; and this fact alone made making scented candles a very popular and lucrative business - you could establish your own candle shop for affordable, discount of wholesale candles. Working with candles as a hobby is not only enjoyable, it is profitable too!

Creating candles is not that hard for any beginner to learn. With this craft, you are only limited by your imagination! If you don't like what you first produced, you can melt the wax down and start over anytime you wish. They make wonderful gifts, can serve as great and interesting displays at home, it can even provide calming and soothing scents as you bathe.

Here are the simple steps involved in candle making:

First, you need to make sure that you have all the materials handy. Remember that the amount of scent, color and wax that you would need would largely depend on the quantity of candles you want to make. To give you a good idea, a pound of wax would create about 8 candles. A general rule of thumb for the essential oil is to put a tablespoon for each pound of wax used. Don't hesitate to experiment with how much or how many ingredients you put in the wax to achieve the fragrance and consistency that suits you best.

 Wick
 Candle wax
 Coloring
 Essential oil or scent
Thermometer (used for candy or meat)
 Double broilers
 Candle mold

You can also modify your selection of materials depending on how you want your end product to come out.

Let's start!

1. Pour the wax in a small pot that is in a larger pot that is partly filled with water. Heat the stove to a low heat to ensure that the wax doesn't burn. Next, using your thermometer let the wax rise to about 170-180 degrees Fahrenheit. Never let the wax overheat, and remember, it burns pretty easily.

2. Set your candle molds in a sturdy and flat surface. Make sure that you have the wicks handy. Remove the pot from its heat source once the wax melts, then add the dye and the essential oil. When adding the dye, its best to use a dropper as this will allow you to have better control of the shade of your candle.

3. You can now set up the wicks inside the candle jar or mold. Be sure that the wick is placed in the middle of the jar. Allow approximately 3-5 minutes for the wax to harden.

4. As soon as the wick is set in place, you can add the rest of the melted wax. Unless you are making jar candles, remove the candle from its mold once it hardens.

There you have it! Making scented candles is a snap, it's super easy to get started, and it's a fun and rewarding hobby. Enjoy!

Seven Ways to Profit Growing Flowers

Growing flowers is a good way to make a solid income. Not only is it a fun and relaxing business, but it can bring you the kind of money you've always dreamed of. No, it probably won't make you a millionaire, but you can make a nice income. Here are seven ways to profit from growing flowers:

1. Fundraisers

Selling your plants at a fundraiser is a great way to make a lot of money, while also donating some of the profits to a charity. Customers are simply more inclined to spend money on your plants if they know some of the money is going to a good cause. It makes you look good, while also putting some money in your pocket. Most growers donate a percentage, typically 20% to 30%, to the organization, such as a church or civic group.

2. Farmers' markets

Farmers' markets are growing in popularity. It's a fun activity for everyone. Plus it's a great way to make money from flowers. Set up a stand or table. Make sure you and your flowers have some shade. And start selling! Make sure you have competitive prices. That doesn't mean your prices have to be the lowest, but they should be reasonable. Farmers' markets are simply a fun way to make some big profits. Hint: If you can't get space at a busy market, try partnering with another grower that has a non-competitive product, like vegetables.

3. Hotels and restaurants

Many hotels and restaurants use flowers to make their tables and waiting areas look nice. It's a simple way to add class to any establishment. Plus, if you can get in good with a hotel or restaurant, you open yourself up to a lot of potential business, as they'll continue to need flowers in the future. It's easiest to sell fresh cut flowers to upscale hotels and restaurants, and dried flower arrangements to others, who can't afford to change their arrangements as often.

4. Subscriptions

If you're starting to get regular customers, consider offering a subscription service. For example, every Monday you deliver a fresh bouquet to a local office. It keeps them happy, and keeps business coming your way. Plus, you know ahead of time what you need to grow, which can cut down on flowers that would otherwise go to waste. It's a great way to generate a steady income from your cut flower business

5. Gift shops

Flowers are simply a nice gift for anyone. That's why gift shops would love to purchase your flowers, especially if you offer nice vases or wreaths. If you can offer them a great product that is sure to sell, they'll be more likely to give your flower growing business a shot. Dried bouquets are always popular, as they last for a long time, and add value to other gift items, such as vases and baskets.

6. Grocery stores

More and more people are buying their flowers from grocery stores. Plus, more and more grocery stores are selling flowers. These grocery stores need to get their flowers from somewhere, so why not you? Find out what your local stores are selling, and offer to supply them with the flowers they need.

7. Mail-order sales

You can also have good luck selling flowers through the mail, in particular, dried flowers and arrangements. There are also buyers, such as flower shops, looking for bulk quantities of specific items. To do this, run a classified ad in gardening, craft and decorating related magazines and newsletters.

There are many ways to turn your flowers into big profits. These are seven ways to get you started. Soon, your flower sales will become the business you've always dreamed of. To learn more, read Growing Flowers for Profit, available at: rel=nofollow http://extraincomebulletin.com

Is This the Most Profitable Mushroom For Part-Time Growers?

The popularity of mushrooms is continuing to grow. In particular, growing exotic mushrooms for profit is a thriving market. Over 2 million pounds of exotic mushrooms were grown in the United States just last year. Oyster mushrooms, a type of exotic mushroom, are one of the best mushrooms you can grow. That's why they're quickly becoming the most profitable mushroom for part-time growers.

In addition to their high demand, oyster mushrooms are one of the easiest exotic mushrooms to grow. Whereas the common button mushroom that is found in almost every grocery store requires special compost and a dark growing area, oyster mushrooms can be grown on a variety of "waste" products, such as straw and sawdust, even coffee grounds, and can be grown indoors in plastic bags. Plus, they can grow in a short time-about six weeks from start to harvest.

Best of all, no full-time commitment is necessary. You can still have a full-time job or other commitments. If you have a few hours a week to spare, then you have enough time to be a successful oyster mushroom grower. Growing oyster mushrooms for profit is a great way to make an extra income.

So how much can you make growing oyster mushrooms? They're currently selling at around $6 a pound. In a 100 square foot growing area, most growers are able to produce about 400 pounds of mushrooms in a single growing cycle. Doing the math you can see that that a 100 square foot growing area can be worth about $2,400 per harvest, or $15,000 a year. And remember, it only takes about six weeks for your mushrooms to be fully grown.

Once you're ready to sell your mushrooms, there are many ways to do it. How about the local farmers' market? If you've been, you know that these frequently draw large crowds that are eager to buy from the top local growers. You can count on people looking for tasty mushrooms. Set up a stand or booth and get selling. If spots fill up, ask another grower if you can share a stand with them. Or how about selling directly to grocery stores? Many stock exotic mushrooms, especially "upscale" grocers. Plus, they might allow you to put on demonstrations. Handing out free samples is a great way to drum up attention for your mushroom-growing business. Have you ever had delicious mushrooms at a restaurant? They have to get their mushrooms from somewhere, so why not you? Hand out free mushroom samples to chefs at local restaurants, and there's a good chance you might have just what they're looking for. Many growers can make a nice income just from selling to restaurants.

Oyster mushrooms are simply the most profitable mushroom for part-time growers. There's no huge commitment involved, and there are several ways you can sell your mushrooms. Before long you could be making the type of money you've always wanted, all by growing oyster mushrooms for profit. To learn more, read Golden Harvest, available at: rel=nofollow http://extraincomebulletin.com

Targeted Niche Markets

I took a drive up country this past weekend with my business partner. We looked back over the 70 plus websites we have and started to think about where we would go with niche marketing in the next part of 2010. One thing was quite clear when we looked at what we had done this year.

As the search engines tighten their algorithms in an effort to squeeze out the guru marketing tornadoes, the average small entrepreneur is left chasing scant bits of information about how to nail down local markets. Just as the stock market likes a stable environment, so too does the Internet marketing business.

What I noticed about much of what we did with our websites over the past 6 months boils down to a simple formula. We find someone with a great product who doesn't have a clue how to market himself. Mostly we've found these people to be the geeks and scientists among us. Some of them have really brilliant products, but have no way of knowing what potential their markets hold.

One example is retirement property. The whole reason we went up country was to scope out what we heard was a decent piece of retirement real estate. When I got to the property, I was blown away by its awesomeness! It had everything. And the developer had spared no expense putting in paved driveways, offering free geothermal drilling and a range of other stuff.

I asked him how many of these 3 acre lots he had sold last year. He indicated the number was about 12. I was a bit shocked. My search engine research had already told me that over 1800 people per day were looking for properties like his. Since his prices were good, and the location was outstanding, why weren't the sales at least triple?

The developer was a hard working man of the earth. He knew real estate well and knew how to make the best product. He was not so good at getting seen. Granted, he did a superb job of creating a free DVD for his project, but still the traffic had not materialized.

Enter Internet entrepreneurs like you and me. What we do here is perform a ton of keyword research, find the right domain name, register the domain, create the hosting account, choose the platform for the site, write some killer content, include videos, a landing page, a squeeze page, and an auto-responder form, then publish the site.

After that, we go to work seeding the site with content and creating backlinks. As customers begin to find the site, the developer starts to get the traffic he rightfully deserves.

It is a very different environment out there today. We need to understand how it works and we must realize that there are very few who can put it all together and make it work. You are reading this article and that means you are likely one of the few.

Home Based Business is Growing Like Never Before

With such a high unemployment rate, people are trying anything they can to make the money they need to provide for their families. It's getting harder and harder to pay the bills and put food on the table. More and more families are being supported by one income, and these days that just doesn't cut it. On top of that, it seams like almost everyone is upside down on their mortgage, or getting foreclosed on.

Now there is a silver lining to this cloud. That's right, home based business. There are ways to make money at home if you find the right niche that works for you. Most of these businesses are internet based. People are searching the internet everyday looking for an easy way to make money. This kind of thinking could end up costing you money, rather than making you money! There is one thing I've learned over the years. Nothing that is worth while is easy, and you get back out of things as much as you put in.

Now if you are the type of person that always has reasons why this or that is not going to work, you are right! It will not work because you are not willing to put in the work that is needed to be successful. On the other hand, if you find something worth while, that you enjoy doing. Something you can put your heart and soul into. You will be successful at anything you do! You are responsible for your future, and you have the power make as much money as you want! No matter what you choose. Just don't be the person living in a fantasy world, thinking you are going to get rich quick!

The great thing about most work at home businesses is that you can make your own hours! This is a huge plus when you think about it. You can be a stay at home mom, or dad and make money in your spare time! Or if you have a day job that you hate, you can work a few hours a day until you are making enough to quit and do what you love full time! I almost forgot, the best part is that you are the boss! You are responsible for your success!

As I am sure you are aware, there are a lot of scams out there. Just be careful, use common sense, and you will be able to separate the good from the bad. Good luck, and may success be yours!
