What Businesses Lend Themselves to Working From Home?

More and more people are fed up with the daily commute, working long hours, lining someone else's pockets, a lack of flexibility regarding childcare when working - the list is almost endless.

That's why an increasing number of people are looking at other options, one of them being starting their own business working from home. There are some businesses that are very well suited to being carried out from home, others that are not quite so good. In this article, we will focus on the types of business that works well from home.

Broadly speaking, there are two types of businesses you can run from home:

-A home-based business, where part of the work is carried out outside the home but the majority still at home.

-A pure home business, where all the work you do can be undertaken from the comfort of your home.

There are, of course, many other ways to classify home businesses, but that's beyond the scope of this article.

A home-based business

This is the sort of business where you spend most of your time working from home but some of the time working outside your home, for example for client/prospect meetings, events such as fairs and shows, etc.

Types of home-based businesses

- Providing a service that can be done at home or outside, e.g. photographer/portrait artist, various types of consultancy (such as business coaching, social media management, marketing consultancy), ironing service in your own home, child minding, etc.

Much of this type of work can be done at home but it often involves meeting prospects/clients at their premises, In the case of the ironing service, you may want to offer a collection and delivery service as well and in the case of child minding, you may want to take the children out some of the time.

- Network marketing/multi-level marketing (MLM)

Although you will spend a fair amount of time working from home in an MLM business, it usually involves attending events and meetings, often in the evening or at the weekend, as well as delivering products to customers.

A Pure Home Business

As suggested above, this is the type of business you can carry out completely from home, without having to go to meetings, either with customers/prospects or suppliers. Depending on the type of business, you may, however, have to go out to purchase materials/ingredients, although this can mostly be done online.

Types of pure home businesses:

- Producing/making something, e.g. cakes, confectionery, hand-made cards, paintings, arts and craft, etc.

Depending on how you market yourself, this could turn into a home-based business, where you have to go to fairs and shows, for example, to promote and sell your products. However, if you sell online, you'll only need to make trips to the post office to ship your goods or, if you're lucky, get people to come to your house to collect their order. The latter can apply to things such as cakes for special occasions. This sort of business would really only cater for local people.

- Online selling, e.g. via eBay.

For larger or heavy items, people would have to collect from your house, so you could be completely home based, provided you have somewhere to store these items. For small and light items, you'd have to make trips to the post office, unless, of course, you use a courier who would pick up from your house.

- Providing a service, e.g. teaching something, restoring antiques, repairing small items, telemarketing

If you have a separate office where you can accommodate a minimum of one other person comfortably, you can offer courses in whatever you can teach people or be a coach; or you could use this room to repair/restore items. A friend of mine runs chocolate making workshops in her shed, another friend is a coach. This works well for them. Apart from the telemarketing, this is again restricted to local businesses and people.

- Internet marketing - different to online selling.

This is essentially selling a service or product that can be delivered online, e.g. online training, downloadable software, e-books, downloadable videos and audios, etc. This is perhaps the purest of the pure home businesses, as there's no need to purchase materials, no need to ship goods, no need to attend fairs or other events. And all you need is a computer and Internet connection, which don't have to be in a separate room. And the beauty is that this isn't limited to any specific geography, as you can target the whole world if you want.

If you're looking to start your own business working from home, this article has hopefully given you some ideas about the types of businesses that work well. You'll have to take into account whether you want to work from home all the time or work outside your home some of the time. Both have their merits.

I personally tried the MLM route but found being away in the evening for meetings and presentations and being away some weekends for meetings difficult to fit in with children and stepchildren. I therefore opted for the Internet marketing route, as it allows me to work from home the whole time and gives me the greatest flexibility.

Whichever route you decide to go down, here's to your success.

How to Take Massive Action to Build a Home Candle Business Fast

Do you have the desire to build a large business quickly? If you are serious and really want to build a multi-million dollar business, it can be done, but it is up to you. The first step in any type of business is to take action immediately!

Your goal should be to show your product and the business opportunity to as many people as you possibly can in as short a time frame as possible. This will help you to launch your business very quickly. You don't have to know every single thing about the product before you market it. Just get it out there! Remember the people you don't show it to will most likely be a customer or business partner to someone else!

When you first start out, you aren't going to know everything about the company and the products but those above you should. If you have someone who is interested in building a business, call your upline and get them on a phone call with your prospect. If your upline doesn't seem interested in helping you, keep calling until you find someone who will, even if you have to go to the owner of that company! Your success is in your hands.

There are usually three ways to build a business. With candles, fund-raising can be a substantial way to get more customers, make large amounts of money and get your product and business out to a very large crowd of people in a short amount of time. Are you worried that you can't get the organization to do a fund-raiser using your product? Here's a tip that works!

Tell the contact person of the organization that you will do a sample fund-raiser to show them how easy it is to sell candles and make a nice profit at no expense to them. Ask for a poster about their organization and a member or two to go with you. Set up a table at a grocery store or other place with the groups poster and one you made that says, "Gourmet Candles-Smells delicious" Sell the candles for a certain price and when they are sold, thank the buyer and ask them if they would like more information on the organization.

Have them talk to the member that is with you. Go back to the organization and give them their share of the profit to show them how easy it is to make money from a simple candle fundraiser in a short period of time. This works well when they see how simple it is. You can do this over and over and gain trust from many organizations and they will use you over and over again, year after year. You can establish yourself quickly as an expert in fund-raising.

Smell and Sell! Candles will sell themselves. Get out there and show the candles to as many people as you can. You can create your own dynasty with this. Lifestyle your product. When you go to the store, the bank, the post office, whatever you do in everyday life can be turned around by having available your product to show to others. Carry some scent samples with you. Always have a few in the car. Always have a business card handy or a pen to get a prospects information.

If you think success, you will become what you think.

Terri Marie Lorah started a [http://www.miabellacandlesite.com]simple business from home with candles! Out of that she has provided a huge income working part time that can afford her to do the things she's always wanted to do like travel throughout the USA, touring on her motorcycle, spending money on her grandkids and living life with a purpose.

Work From Home Stuffing Envelopes

This 'work from home stuffing envelopes' 'opportunity' was investigated by 'Which' magazine and can be found online. The scam asks for 49.99 for a 'starter pack' to get you started. What you do not realize it that they will simply ask you to be placing adverts offering 'Work form home stuffing envelopes'. Effectively you would be recruiting other people to do what you yourself have just done. It is deemed an illegal pyramid scheme by the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) and can be found on their website.

I actually tried this scheme several years ago as it was still floating around then. I tried to place adverts in post office windows and many business owners refused it. It is not a genuine business opportunity and you would be wise to give it a wide berth. There are many opportunities available now to enable you to work from your home computer. One of these is affiliate marketing and it is one of the most popular business models around for the would-be work from home entrepreneur.

Affiliate marketing is an online business which can be done in your spare time as an extra income or as a full-time job. Depending on the approach you use with this business, you can either earn a full or part-time income from it and of course that will also depend on how much effort your put in to the business. It can be run with very little outlay and with only doing a few hours a day. Also it is an incredibly flexible business which you can fit around pretty much any lifestyle. All you need is you home computer, laptop and internet connection. You can even live anywhere in the world and travel while you work!

Affiliate marketing put simply is 'a way to earn income by promoting other peoples products and services'. If this is done online on your home computer, the content you place on the internet can still be earning money years after it is 'placed' there. Because of this, affiliate marketing can create a cumulative effect whereby your previous work drives traffic (people/customers) as you generate more content. As the content grows so does the amount of traffic and therefore your sales. You eventually reach a tipping point where sales grow exponentially because of the work you have done previously. When this happens you have generated 'passive' income and the content you have generated carries on working bringing customers to products and earning your affiliate income. This income structure is similar to a 'royalty' based payment scheme which is usually something that only people like actors and authors can capitalize on.

To learn how to become an affiliate marketer and generate a full-time or a part-time living see this [http://money-making-online.co.uk/]online course.

How Internet Widens My Horizon

Before the emergence of internet, life is okay and neat. There is the post office for mails, although you have to resort to other mail senders if you want the mail to reach the recipients faster, but you have to pay more for the difference in time and service. You can call and communicate with your friends and loved ones in faraway places as long as you're prepared to see your phone bills increased by folds. You can research in library and take days or weeks to finish your reports... and so on and so forth.

However, the flow of everyday life has changed dramatically since the inception of internet. The conventional ways of transactions, be it business, social, personal, etc. seem so long ago, like a part of ancient history. Everything changed. Everybody blend easily to the "climate change" of the way the communication and other things have progressed. These all were brought about by the miracle they called "internet."

How internet widens my world? Here are just some of them:

Communication. I can talk with my relatives and friends without spending any penny in it. As long as you have the PC and connected to the internet, you can talk as long as you want, to your heart's content. If there is no personal computer, cell phone will do. The modern services that internet providers offer make everything so accessible and feasible.

Social interaction. Although it could be included in communication, it is a bit different in the sense that internet users find friends and even lifetime partners through the social sites which sprouted like mushrooms when internet becomes the trend. The difference lies in the fact that these friends are total strangers and they only meet in web.

Business transactions. This is the most important sector that internet has helped. You can transact business and create deals anywhere around the globe within minutes, and even from the comfort of your home.

The invention of ATM's, eBooks, emails, etc. are few of the modern methods brought by internet. These modern electronic ways make transactions easy and faster, also save time and money. Furthermore, and maybe the most important thing, having these all make everyone satisfied and happy.

Online jobs. For the employers and employees, internet allows them to make money online without the restriction of time and place. Even the mothers and unemployed are given the opportunity to find jobs and make money from their homes.

Education. Today, pursuing your studies is available online. You can finish your degree from your home. This distant education inspired the undergraduates or even the graduates for furthering their career.

Research. Be it business or thesis, anything that you wanted to search, they're just fingertips away. You can learn so many things in a matter of minutes.

Visiting places away from home. Sitting in your office or in your home, you can visit and see places which you never did and maybe never will. Seeing them and going from one place to another is a journey that money cannot even equate.

Looking back to the times before the birth of the internet, it seems not only eons away, but also the realization, that we can't imagine living today without having internet into our lives - even how simple our life is.

How to Make Money in the Winter

In the summertime, there are lots of odd jobs you can do outdoors. You can mow lawns, wash cars, weed gardens, build decks, etc. In the fall, you have to do fall cleanup raking leaves and getting ready for the winter. The winter is a little different as you don't have the same opportunities. Here are a few ideas you can try.

First, there is the most obvious, shoveling snow. Whenever there is a snow storm, there is an opportunity for you to make a little extra cash. You can start small and go around the neighborhoods shoveling, or you can make it more of a business. Get all the tools of the trade: snow blower, shovels, salt, ice scraper, etc. Before the winter starts, make a deal with clients that you will take care of their driveway and walkway for them during storms.

Unfortunately with this idea, it doesn't snow all the time. Some winters are packed with storms, others are scarce. You might not even live in an area where it snows a lot. In this case, you can try other indoor ideas. One great idea is to sell things on eBay. You can sell your unwanted possessions. A yard sale would probably need a somewhat warm day, but it doesn't matter what the weather is like when you just need your computer and the post office. Don't just sell your own things, sell other people's stuff to make even more money. Just take a commission from what you sell.

These are a couple great ideas to [http://tellingtips.com/how-to-earn-extra-money-from-home/]earn extra money in the winter. You can find other ways to [http://tellingtips.com/how-to-make-quick-money/]make money now matter what time of year it is.

Starting a Home Business: 3 Things To Consider Before You Press The Launch Button

Although there can be a bunch of things you need to do prior to starting a home business, there are essentially 3 main things to consider when getting the word out into the world about your new venture? Doing some planning before you embark on this long journey will pay big dividends down the road...

1. Draw up your business plan

Starting a home business without a basic business plan is like leaving on vacation to a new holiday spot without a map. During the process of writing a business plan you will identify some basic problems you may encounter before they occur. This will decrease the amount of stress associated with starting your home business. You can use such a plan to iron out the difficulties and to consolidate your goals and expectations.

Your business plan need not be a mammoth document, but it should cover the basics needed prior to starting a home business. 1-3 pages can be sufficient.

2. Cashflow

Any business lives or dies by its cashflow. If the money doesn't come in but the expenses keep adding up, there's no doubt where you're headed.

Generating fast cash flow should be a major priority. This ties in with proper planning: you need to know exactly how much money you need to make and how quickly you need to make it to keep yourself in business. This isn't something you want to make up as you go along. Often when starting a home business, there is a drain on the cashflow, and this should be planned for.

Use a spreadsheet and plan your expenses, and projected income over a period of 6 months to a year.

3. Launch your home business with a bang

Generate some pre-launch interest. If your business focus will be providing services in your local area, the perfect free attention getter is a press release in your local or regional paper. Ask your post office about distributing promotional flyers to people's mailboxes.

For an Internet home business, you can use online press releases. Giving away something valuable for free is also a good way to generate buzz and interest. For example, if you're starting a graphics design business, give away some designs for free to a small group of customers. This immediately introduces your target market to your services, and builds your reputation at the same time provided that you deliver a good service.

Getting your home business off to a good start doesn't need to cost a lot of money. Try to find original ways to generate exposure for your specific business type, and don't be afraid to provide something for free at first. If the product or service you provide is of a high quality, word will spread and people will arrive with money in hand.

Following these 3 things when starting a home business can result in a lot of stress and frustration being avoided. Try it.

Tips on How to Start Your Own Cleaning Business From Home

In this economy we must get creative when it comes to income. The job market is very competitive and may leave some people wondering just how to earn money. With little investment you can start your own home-based cleaning business. Here are a few tips to help...

First be sure you are physically able to clean houses or businesses. You need to be in relatively good physical condition because cleaning homes requires a lot of stooping, bending and physical exertion. Depending on how many you clean in one day, it can be physically exhausting. If you clean three houses a day, that is usually about six tubs you must scrub, three kitchens you must clean and so forth.

In order to get clients you must get the word out that you have started your own cleaning business. I actually have found many clients by advertising on Craigslist. It is free and a lot of people use Craigslist when looking for services. Advertise in local papers, use any bulletin board available, post office boards, etc. You can also get automobile magnets to place on your car which is a great and inexpensive way to advertise. Whatever you do make your advertisement look professional.

Do you live in or nearby a vacation resort? Perhaps near a beach or any vacation spot? Then there are probably vacation rental homes and condos that need to be cleaned after each guest has departed. This can be a great way to earn money during the peak vacation seasons and can turn out to be your entire source of income. Many rental home owners do not like to do business with larger cleaning companies because they usually overwork their staff so they end up paying for services and not getting the quality they paid for. They want their homes cleaned and they want it done right. If you are thorough and dependable at your job then usually all you need is a couple of these rental home cleanings and you will get more customers simply by word of mouth.

Do research online on how to clean a home or business. This sounds simple but it is different to clean professionally than to clean your own home. You must learn how to manage your time at each cleaning and learn to clean quickly yet thoroughly.

Of course you will need supplies. Many home owners will have you use their cleaning supplies. However, this is not always the case, so therefore you must have your own such as a working vacuume, a mop, and a bucket. I use one all-purpose cleanser, one bathroom cleanser and window cleaner with a squeegee. Magic erasers, even the generic kind are great and are something I won't clean without. I use them on tubs, sinks and countertops as well as scuff marks on floors. Don't forget some cleaning towels. I have two kinds. One is soft for mirrors and windows. The other is rougher for general cleaning. Be sure to always dedicate a separate towel to clean toilets.

There is a lot of competition out there. You need an edge over the other cleaning businesses. You have to be really good and offer something different than the others. Environmental awareness is everywhere and you can capitalize on that by offering environmentally-safe cleaning products. [http://www.purelygreenmb.com]Green cleaning is in right now and rightly so. Pollution in the home caused by chemicals used in cleaning products is well documented to be cause for health concerns. There are many effective, toxin-free and environmentally-safe products available in stores and online. There are even [http://www.purelygreenmb.com]non-toxic oven cleaners available.

Lastly, good customer service is as important as great cleaning. Have fun with your business and always smile at your customers. Friendly, courteous service will go a long way with your customers and prove to be a great asset to your business.

3 Ways to Ensure You're Inspired by Your Home Office

It has long been my dream to start my own business from home, so when the opportunity came up, I jumped at it. There's something inherently right about being able to make a cup of coffee on Monday morning, walk right over to my office, and sit down. Especially in the winter!

I promised myself when I started up that I would never allow my office to turn into what my work office had been - an uncomfortable, stuffy place that I am forced to stay in to make money. I promised myself that I would always enjoy going to work in the morning, and that my office would inspire me each time I sat down in it.

Here are a few ways I've ensured that to be the case.

My dog likes to keep me company during the day, which makes me feel a little more comfortable while I'm plucking away on the computer. So he and I share frequent short breaks, usually a 5 minute break every hour (I worked at the post office a long time ago, so I know this is the best way to stay efficient!) We have a small refrigerator for snacks, usually fruit for me and homemade dog treats for him. This way I'm always fresh and feeling like I have good company with me.

I also go outside every couple hours to really clear my head. We have a door leading outside right by my office, so I can be outside in a heartbeat - it's almost like an escape, which I sometimes feel like I need, but having the option to head out makes me feel much better. While I'm working I like to keep my blinds closed so I don't get distracted.

Finally, I keep the room decorated to suit my own preferences. Usually this means keeping the paintings I do in my spare time hanging around the room, but it also means fairly frequent redecorating and color palette changes. It stays fresh this way.

Perhaps these suggestions will work for your home office too. Good luck in your business endeavors!

Philip has happily been working from home for almost a year now. He writes about many of the tips here, including how to make [http://hubpages.com/hub/HomemadeDogTreats]homemade dog treats and using [http://hubpages.com/hub/VerticalBlinds]vertical blinds to stay focused on work.

Things to Consider When Running a Business From Home

Renting business premises is an expense you could do without. What are the pitfalls to avoid?

If you are turning your abode into a place of business there are 3 stake holders to consider: your spouse, your children, your neighbours.

Being married and raising children together is enough of a challenge. Why would you add to that being partners in an enterprise also? Some marriages have exploded in your face over that issue but in some cultural backgrounds it is taken for granted as part of the territory. For instance a French baker works all night to have the famous baguettes and croissants ready at dawn for the town to consume. His wife is expected to run the shop in the morning and sell the day's supply.

The dynamics of a relationship can be skewed if your spouse becomes your employee. Intelligent people can work around that issue but consider how you would feel if you are in a job where work and home activities are not clearly defined. Further working from home gives you an insight as to how your partner/spouse spends his/her time. What hourly rate should you pay? Would you require timesheets? Is it volunteer work? Do you get a kiss for that?

Children come crashing home mid-afternoon after school and will be noisy and boisterous. Do you want that sound effect in the background when you are conducting an important phone call with a prospective client? Do you have a home office set aside where you can conduct business meetings? Is there parking available for visitors?

Neighbours can be wonderful folks to challenge you at honing your best people skills. They can also be nosey, jealous or downright obnoxious to make their presence felt. If your part of town is zoned as residential they can blow the whistle on you if you use trade tools or if they suspect you run a mortician business in your garage.

What about the internet connection? How far away is the telephone exchange? How early is your mail being delivered? Should you have a post office box? If you sell stuff on eBay would you have time to fulfill customer orders the same day?

We have become so intransigent and set in our ways where everything is measured, timed and documented. Our ancestors didn't have any other choice. In the village each house was a business with the work done downstairs and the living quarters upstairs. You knew all your customers by name and they brought you the town news as well as their patronage. Maybe there will be a resurgence of the cottage industry if more banks go belly up.
