Get Paid to Shop! Learn How to Become a Successful Mystery Shopper

A mystery shopper is a person paid to evaluate customer service of restaurants, retail stores, banks, movie theatres, apartment rental offices, medical facilities, and other places. Because of the flexibility, mystery shopping is a great part-time job for homemakers, students, and anyone who needs a little extra cash. You decide which shops to accept based on your schedule.

Franchises and businesses with multiple locations want to see their business from the customer point of view. To do this, they hire a company that specializes in customer service evaluations. These companies, in turn, contract people to go into an establishment and evaluate the service. The contractors are known as mystery shoppers or secret shoppers. They are not employees of the mystery shopping company; they are hired to perform a specific job. For most shops, they act no different from any other customer and their identity is not revealed. The difference is that the mystery shopper is paid to provide feedback to company by completing a questionnaire after the shop.

Since you are going to business and retail locations, you should live in or close to a city or suburban area. If you live miles away from the closest city, mystery shopping is probably not for you. You will not make enough money to make it worthwhile because of the distance to the businesses, the time spent traveling, and the fuel cost.

You will not get rich by being a mystery shopper. Shoppers are generally paid between $8 and $25 per shop, depending on the job requirements. In addition, you may be reimbursed for a meal, or purchased item or service. The more successful shoppers are those who work for several companies and who use their time and fuel efficiently by doing several shops the same day in the same area.

To find companies that hire mystery shoppers, you can search for "mystery shopper jobs" or "mystery shopping companies" in a search engine such as Google or Bing. DO NOT PAY FOR INFORMATION! Look for the actual mystery companies and NOT sites that charge you and at best provide the same information you can get for free. If the company is accepting mystery shoppers, you will be asked to sign up at their site. When shops become available, they will notify you, usually by email.

To be successful shopper, you should have the following:

1. A reliable computer and access to the Internet. Although it is best if you have your own computer, you may be able to use a public computer to enter shops and check your email.

Many public libraries have computers available for public use, but you should be aware that libraries are only open certain hours and sometimes impose strict time limits. If you are using a public computer, make sure that the computer is available when you need to submit the information.

2. A scanner or good quality digital camera so that you can take a picture of a receipt and store it as a file. You can then submit it electronically by either uploading the file from a link provided on their website or sending it as an attachment to an email.

3. An email address that you can check frequently. Many mystery shopping companies send you an email when shops are available. The quicker you respond, the better your chances of getting the shop. You should know how to send and receive email. You should also be able to view an attachment and attach a file since you may be asked to submit documentation electronically.

4. Basic computer skills, including the ability to spell check, copy and paste, and upload files. You should be familiar with accessing websites, registering at websites, and sending and receiving email.

5. Ability to write clearly and concisely in English. Bad grammar, misspellings, and incorrect punctuation reduce your changes of getting future work.

6. Good observation skills and an eye for detail. For example, you might be asked to comment on the cleanliness of an establishment, recall the greeting stated by the employee, or provide the length of time it took to be served.

7. Finally, you need to have reliable transportation. It's important that you are able to reach the location and perform the shop on time.

Happy Shopping!

The Billion Dollar Question: Are IPOs in Microfinance a Sign of Being Progressive or Simply Greed?

An IPO stands for Initial Public Offering of common stocks or shares of a public limited company. Micro Financial Institutions are mostly engaged in financial lending to smaller borrowers and have a stated social aim of helping to alleviate poverty- can these two opposing concepts work in tandem or are they diametrically opposed to each other?

When commercially orientated companies make the big decision to have an IPO, their main aims are usually to mobilize capital for further expansion and possibly (as in the case of Facebook) in some instances may have been forced to go down this route by the regulatory authorities as a secondary market has been inadvertently created for their high demand shares. On the other hand, when an MFI makes this decision, their aims are to increase the capital for lending to their clients: or do they have other aims in mind?

This may be become clearer when we look at two MFIs that have had IPOs in the recent past; Banco Compartamos of Mexico and SKS, the largest MFI in India. Compartamos went for an IPO in April 2007. The issue was oversubscribed 13 times and in the first day of trading in Stock Exchanges, the share price surged 22% from the issue price.

This company was created in 2000 and the original investors amassed profits of $450 million, by selling just 30% of their stakes, as a result of the price escalation in the public market, which was almost at a crazy 1,150% of the book value of shares! Interestingly, Campartamos was originally a non-profit organization, prior to 2000 and received enormous government subsidies, for their "social service" of helping poor women of the region by providing them with loans for their businesses.

After Compartamos went public, it started to generate significantly higher profits than it did previously. This was mainly because they increased their interest rates to keep their shareholders happy and ended up charging an effective interest rate of almost 86% interest per annum - more than three times what normal banks charged. The returns on equity were as almost high as 50% at their peak.

As a consequence, the shareholders of Compartamos, who were mostly institutional investors and Private individuals, enjoyed huge profits. In contrast, the people whom the bank had set out to help, the poor women in the rural areas did not see any real benefits, if anything they struggled more with the repayments on their loans as a result of the increase in interest rates.

Similarly SKS Microfinance Ltd. - aptly nicknamed by critics as Compartamos II - went the same way. Its IPO for $347 million was oversubscribed by 13.8 times. The issue of 13.77 million shares to public and retail investors was exclusive of 3.02 million shares, reserved for anchor-investors - meaning financial giants.

Again, their stated objective was - lending finance for the rural poor - small farmers, vegetable vendors, weavers and the like. SKS boasted of 7 million clients already and by 2012 that will be extended to 15 million clients.

After the IPO and subsequent Board room coups that ensued, it was like Compartamos all over again: Interest rates increased and particularly in Andhra Pradesh, the incidence of suicides of borrowers increased. On further investigation, it was actually found that the bank's credit officers had encouraged the borrowers to take out life insurance as collateral for their loans, which means that on their death, SKS would actually get the loans repaid in full.

The vital question in both cases is who ultimately benefits from an IPOs? The IPOs both resulted in higher effective interest rates, so that the firms could reach their profit targets set by their new shareholders, who obviously expected dividend for their equity.

While it is indeed important for microfinance institutions to become self- sustaining and not be shackled by inadequate donor funding, it does raise the question that if their stated aims are to alleviate poverty through providing loans to the 'unbanked' can this work hand in hand with mainstream finance such as IPOs? From the two examples so far, my answer would be a strong reaffirming no!

Make Your Website Work For You!

Previously in my writings, I have talked about how to improve your search engine ranking position by optimising your website both "on page" and "off page" for key search phrases. In addition, the site must be optimised to be able to pick up the long tail of key search phrases that can make the difference between success and failure for a small business.

This aside, I would like to discuss the techniques that have worked for me in the world of online business. First of all, if this article were an attempt to sell my services to the general public, the odd stalwart would have trickled through to the end, but in general, most visitors would have switched off after the obligatory eight to ten seconds. This is roughly the time that it takes for an average member of the general public to asses whether or not your site is worth visiting. If you haven't given them what they need to see, then you're history!

So how do we entice people to read more, to stay longer and above all, to make a purchase, or a telephone call to ask for more information. My experience has led me to believe that we need three mechanisms. All three need to be present and I've found that the absence of any one makes the whole process much more difficult.

The first mechanism that I tend to use in abundance is the 100% money back guarantee. Reinforce the process with a nice, juicy logo strategically placed on the home page, a picture is worth a thousand words as they say. The second is the all important "Ask A Question" button - to help to build relationships with visitors. The final element would be what's called link bait - i.e. a mechanism to entice visitors to your site and to link to the site for future reference.

To see a perfect example of link bait, have a look at the tax calculator on this [http://www.nannytalent.com]nanny jobs in London website.

Why Updating You Website Is Important

Websites are a complete representation of your business, project, promotion, or product. They are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Out of all the promotional products and sales or promotion staffing available, websites are the one that works the hardest, and is the most directly controlled by the owner. With so many users able to access online websites from so many vantage points, such as handheld devices, providing up to date information ensures that they will bookmark YOUR site, and come back, again and again, because it is providing a valuable service for them. Even if they do not decide to buy, participate, sell, or contact you, the information you are providing to them about yourself has to be as up to date as possible. Websites need to be updated and maintained regularly for a few reasons:

a) It shows that you are hands-on and directly involved in what you are representing on your site.

b) Current information and up-to-date knowledge gives your audience something to look for on your site, and reminds them of what you represent every time they look through it.

c) Awareness and adaptability go hand in hand. If you expect to be able to show what you are about in a constantly changing world, be prepared to be aware and adapt.

Your website includes every aspect of the face of your business or project. The needs of your clientele will be varied, and your website provides knowledge to help them make a discriminating decision about your product or service. As your clientele's needs change, so should the content of your site; it show you have a finger on the pulse of your industry and business. It demonstrates loyalty to the ever changing face of your clientele, and provides them a sure sense that you care about satisfying the constant demands you are meeting.

If you are involved in a project or promotion, daily updates give your public news about what is happening, and will changing news, people like to talk about what is new and upcoming; they are much more likely to share what they have seen if it is something that gives a new twist or look. A fresh perspective, even on facts and dates and times that have already been presented, gives your public's eyes and ears a mark they will not forget. Website are the most succinct and convenient method of public access to your information; why not capitalize on the power of word of mouth, which is the least expensive form of advertising? The reach or your message should never be underestimated. Once your site has caught someone's eye, you can be sure that they will be back to look at what is new!

A couple of tips:

DO present your clients or public with a "what's new"/"recent happenings"/"latest activity" section....but ONLY IF you are prepared to maintain it!! How many times have you clicked on a site's supposed recent or newest activity, only to find that the information is two years old, or month's old? Seeing information or dates that have already passed, strikes a chord in your potential participant that you don't check what is going on with your own business or promotion.

DO use dates and times to create a sense of urgency!

DO renew and update your copyright or licensing statement at the bottom of your page...it states credibility and substantiality.

DO respond promptly to correspondence from your public. They got this far, use it!

Online Survey, Best Kept Secret

Definition
Survey, in statistics, a method of collecting data in which people are asked to answer a number of questions (usually in the form of a questionnaire). An opinion poll is an example of a survey. The reliability of a survey's results depends on whether the sample of people from which the information has been collected is free from bias and sufficiently large.
Early Pioneer of Survey
George Gallup (1901-1984), American public opinion analyst and statistician. George Horace Gallup was born in Jefferson, Iowa, and educated at the University of Iowa. He was head of the journalism department at Drake University (1929-1931), professor of journalism and advertising at Northwestern University (1931-1932), and professor at the Pulitzer School of Journalism, Columbia University (1935-1937).
In 1935 he founded and became director of the American Institute for Public Opinion, and in 1936 he established the British Institute of Public Opinion. Gallup was a pioneer in the use of statistical methods for measuring the interest of readers in the features and advertisements of magazines and newspapers and for determining public opinion on general issues.
He extended his research to include the reactions of radio audiences and founded the Audience Research Institute in 1939. He directed research for many organizations, won numerous awards, and wrote several books. He is best known for the Gallup poll, public opinion surveys on politics.
General Acceptability.
Opinion polls are generally accepted as useful tools by business, political organizations, the mass media, and government as well as in academic research. Hundreds of public opinion polling firms operates around the world. Best known in the U.S. are the organizations, such as the Gallup Poll, American consumer opinion and Harris Poll, the findings of which regularly appear in major newspapers.
In business, polls are used to test consumers' preferences and to discover what it is about a product that gives it appeal. Responses to commercial polls aid in planning marketing and advertising strategies and in making changes in a product to increase its sales.
In politics, polls are used to obtain information about voters' attitudes toward issues and candidates, to put forward candidates with winning potential, and to plan campaigns. Polling organizations have also been successful in predicting the outcome of elections. In addition, by polling voters on Election Day, it is often possible to determine the probable winner even before the voting booths close.
Agencies use quantitative research to determine a final
Course of action. This type of research uses close-ended questions in which answers are selected from a set list. This enables the researcher to determine the exact percentage of people who answered yes or no to a question or the exact percentage choosing answer a, b, or c.
One of the most common quantitative research techniques is the survey in which researchers use a questionnaire to gain information from a large group of people, called a sample. Statistical studies show that if the sample is large enough, about 1,000 people, and is representative of a particular group (for example, working mothers who buy disposable diapers
Then the findings from the sample are considered true, or statistically valid, and can be extended to the entire group of consumers in that category. The findings provided by quantitative research are therefore conclusive in a way that qualitative research cannot be.
Newspapers, magazines, radio, and television are heavy users of public opinion polling information, especially political information that helps to predict elections or gauge the popularity of government officials and candidates. The public's attitude toward various social, economic, and international issues is also considered newsworthy.
Governments use opinion polls to tap public sentiment about issues of interest. In addition, government agencies use polling methodology to determine unemployment rates, crime rates, and other social and economic indicators.
Polls have been employed extensively in academic research, particularly in the social sciences, where they have been proven over the years.
Procedures
Public opinion polling involves procedures to draw a representative sample of the population under study. If, for example, one is studying the attitudes of all adults in the U.S., the survey organization would seek to draw up a list of the entire adult population of the country and then select at random a sample to be surveyed.
When proper techniques are used and the sample is large enough-1000 to 1500 people-the results obtained are likely to be very close to the results one would get if the entire population were surveyed. Thus, if 60 percent of the sample says it approves of the president's policies, statistical theory shows that if the entire population were surveyed, the probability is 95 percent that between 58 to 62 percent of the people would express the same approval as the sample. The criterion of excellence in a sample is representative, not size.
Sampling is vital to the validity of an opinion poll. In practice, however, sampling can be a complicated procedure involving a great deal of estimation and guesswork. The population to be surveyed usually cannot be precisely enumerated. Efforts must be made to break down the population into sampling units of approximately equal size. A certain amount of interviewer discretion is necessary, and complications arise when a proposed respondent is not at home, has moved, or is unwilling to be interviewed. Often only about two-thirds of the intended respondents are actually interviewed and give valid responses. When mail questionnaires are used, problems of no response are higher.
Great care must be used when fashioning the questionnaire or interview schedule, and testing the questions before using them in the field is always advisable. Ideally, questions should be short, clear, direct, and easily comprehended. Apart from such an obvious necessity as trying to avoid bias, many subtle problems arise in framing a question.
A word or phrase, for example, may mean different things to different people. In making a question simple enough to be understood by everyone, the issue may be so oversimplified that it has no meaning to the more sophisticated respondent. Sometimes the order in which questions are asked can affect the response. In addition, the tone or wording of the question may alter the measured response:
A study once found that the percentage of the public in favor of "forbidding" speeches against democracy was 16 points lower than the percentage in favor of "not allowing" such speeches.
Other problems can be traced to interviewer effects. Age, sex, class, or racial differences between the respondent and the interviewer can sometimes affect the respondent's answer.
Once the opinion data have been gathered, the analyst must seek to find meaning in the results, keeping in mind the problems of sampling variability, question-wording biases, and interviewer effects. The results are tabulated and analyzed using various statistical techniques to determine patterns. Much successful analysis involves comparison: comparing subgroups of the population as they react to the same question; comparing the results of surveys conducted at different times to discover opinion trends; and comparing the responses to different questions.
Because of comparison-based analysis, the survey often is divided into small subgroups for comparison-for instance, educated, politically active women with educated, politically active men.
Criticisms of Public Opinion
Criticisms of public opinion research come from a variety of sources. Many people simply are not convinced that the opinions of a small sample of the population are a viable representation of the opinions of the whole. On this matter, however, the polling agencies can point to the science of statistics and also to decades of experience from which it can be shown, for example, that the same question asked on two different sample surveys at the same time will almost always generate similar results.
Other criticisms deal with sample procedures that, for reasons of economy or expediency, sometimes use outdated population data or make compromises with rigorous statistical requirements.
Even assuming that the basic poll data are valid, analysis of the data may be casual and superficial. In some cases, the raw data are simply presented as the public's "opinion" on an issue without deep and careful analysis to probe nuance and possible bias.
The subtle influence of variations in question wording on the measured response is often ignored. In the political area, criticism sometimes focuses on the appropriateness of opinion polling, rather than on its validity.
It is argued that elected officials may be too willing to act on what a poll says their constituents think rather than deciding the issues on their merits. Some experts believe that polls may influence voters to favor certain political candidates who seem to be enjoying a notable popularity at the moment.
The information that a certain candidate is far ahead in the polls may discourage people from voting at all or encourage them to vote for that candidate and thus may affect the results of the election.
The importance of opinion survey base on valid statics data and careful analysis cannot be over emphasize hence it covers all aspects of our lives right from the time when survey taking was introduces a tools for measuring public perception on all aspect of human endeavor by the founding fathers and even now.

Since Public Domain, comprises of various creation of works from photos to literature, to books to software to almost everything ready to be available for the public audience, it is common for people to ask what types of works and information make up the public domain list. The category of materials that are widely spread that are not qualified for all-out copyright includes the following:

PROFIT From the Past - Public Domain Product Sales Are Making HISTORY!

Selling Public domain products is very BIG business today - the problem is not everyone "GETS IT", as we are all a bit pre-occupied with the modern methods of doing things - creating digital products & videos of our own, using modern day technology - we have perhaps overlooked the power of "public domain" products...

So, what is the public domain?

Well, a basic overview would be - The public domain is content created prior to 1923 (this varies in different countries, please check eligibility before downloading content to use commercially). It basically is content where because of its age - the copyright, if it existed, has now expired.

Now, I can hear people thinking "Who cares about Victorian Locomotives?" or "Who is going to be interested in Making the Perfect Chicken Coop?".

Believe me, you would be surprised.

Strange as it may seem, even in this Internet fuelled world of Social Networking & Internet Marketing, Public Domain Information is still very much ALIVE and in DEMAND... and above all, it's FREE!

All you have to do is take a good look on eBay, to see the many Public Domain products being sold on there, many of which are selling extremely well, because although we are all living in this WONDERFUL Digital age,, people LOVE HISTORY and still have one foot in the past...Memorabilia ROCKS!

What are Public Domain Products? - They are products, derived from prints, drawings, photographs & books from a past era, and then turned into eBooks, CD's & DVD's to sell. Most of this valuable content has already been transferred to a PDF format so that they can be easily downloaded and transferred to CD's, DVD's etc and turned into themed products to SELL.

One of the most popular public domain sites to get as many free books as you want, most of them in PDF format is at rel=nofollow [http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page]Gutenberg or Project Gutenberg as it is often referred as.

So, whether its "A History of Horseracing" - "Castles of a Bygone Era" - Victorian Motorbuses" or "Building An Outhouse for Beginners" - there is a massive catalogue of VALUABLE information available just waiting for YOU.

It is virtually unlimited - Our fathers & forefathers (and our mums) have left us this wonderful legacy to Love, Enjoy and RACK UP PROFITS FROM! (LOL) - now you can create hundreds, if not thousands of products for FREE, transfer them to CD's & DVD and sell them on auction sites like eBay or even on your own website or blog...
