From Pet Rabbit to Business Partner

It was around Valentines day when we went to get a pet rabbit. She was a black mini lop. We named her Lady Lop. What we didn't know was that she was Mrs. Lady Lop. We got the books on rabbit care.

We knew something was going on when we saw Lady Lop pulling out tufts of hair and making a nest. We went to the books again and found out that she was going to have a litter. We followed directions and she had 6 cute baby bunnies.

You now have 6 cute bunnies to sell. Unless you want to keep them. We sold the young ones and kept Lady Lop. It was hard to see them go. You can offer to take them back if the owners finds it more difficult then they though to keep them.

This story is told many times over. Just like we did, you can advertise on grocery store bulletin boards. The reality is that most people can't resist a cute bunny. Put pictures up with your adds. Check around and see what other breeders are charging for their bunnies. Price your rabbits a dollar or so less than the competition and you should be in the money.

Treat your rabbits well. People that come to pick up a bunny want to see a clean neat and well organized area where the rabbits are kept. Plenty of food, clean water and ample sized cages will put out the right message. Don't be a bunny mill.

If you enjoy the bunny business, there are lots of ways to increase the bottom line. Most people that get a rabbit have no idea of what they need. Stock or catalog different cages. Have food, bedding, food bowls and water bottles there. Stock all what the new rabbit owner needs. They will gladly buy from you as long as your prices are not to high.

You need to know about rabbits. Learning about rabbits is not hard. Some of the ways to gather information is through books, local 4H and other clubs. The internet has a wealth of information. Go to forums and look for adds. I will warn you that just because someone said it in print is not necessarily true. You need to project yourself as knowledgeable.

Once you have a handle on knowing about rabbits, print a page or more of does and don't for rabbit care. You could also mention books that you may stock that go a lot deeper into keeping the bunny healthy.

Having classes for rabbit owners may be another way to generate income. Litter box train your pet rabbit and then you can train others to do the same. Rabbits can do tricks. Teach yours and teach others to do it too.
