An old man and a younger man are walking with a donkey. They get near a town and they both are strolling with their donkey. School children passed them, giggling and laughing, and they said, "Look at these fools. They've a robust donkey with them and they're walking. At the least the old man might take a seat on the donkey."

Listening to those youngsters the old man and the younger man decided, "What to do? Because people are laughing and soon we will be coming into the city, it might be better to do what they say." So the old man sat on the donkey and the younger guy followed.

Then they came close to yet another group of people that said, "Look! - The old man is seated on the donkey and the poor young man is walking. This is ridiculous! That old man can easily walk, but the boy should be allowed to sit on the donkey." So they changed places. The old man started walking and the young man was allowed to sit.

Satisfying Nobody

After that yet another group came and said, "Look at these fools. And this boy seems to be too arrogant. Maybe the old man is his dad or his teacher and he is walking, and he's sitting on the donkey - this is in opposition to all rules!" So what to do? They both made the decision which now there's only one possibility. That they each should take a seat on the donkey; so they both sat on the donkey.

Then other groups came and they said,"Look at these people, so violent! The poor donkey is almost dying - 2 people on 1 donkey. It might have been better if they toted the donkey on their shoulders."

So they once again discussed, and then there was the river and the bridge. They'd now nearly reached the boundary of the town, so they thought,"It is better to behave as men and women think in this village; or else they will think we're fools." So they found a bamboo; on their shoulders they put the bamboo and hung the donkey by his legs, tied it in the bamboo and carried him. The donkey attempted to rebel, as donkeys are they cannot be forced very easily. He attempted to break free because he is not a believer in society and what other people are saying. However the 2 men were too much and they forced him, so the donkey had to yield.

Losing Everything

Just on the bridge in the middle a crowd passed and they all gathered and they said,"Look, these fools! We have never seen such dummies - a donkey is to ride upon, not to carry on your shoulders. Have you gone mad?"

Listening to them - and a great crowd gathered - the donkey became restless, so restless that he jumped and fell from the bridge down into the river and died. Both men came down but the donkey was dead. (MessageFromMasters)

Work From Home - Part 2 - Extra Income Ideas

"I should shoot myself!" the man's voice said softly over the phone.

Peter, the tax adjuster shuddered. What should he do? How serious was this man? Then, wild laughter came from the earpiece.

"Mr. Rico, what's so funny?" asked the tax man.

"I can't afford the bullet!" Sensing the tension in the tax man, Mr. Rico added, "Relax, son, I'm not going to do anything like that."

Letting his breath out in relief, Peter decided to get a bit more information before making his final report on how to dispose of Mr. Rico's case.

"Sir, mind telling me how you managed to get yourself into this mess?"

There was a brief pause as if Mr. Rico was trying to analyze it himself.

Finally, he said, "Too much bad advice from good meaning people. My guidance counselor in high school said I should go to college. I was good in math and had a good mechanical aptitude. Good advice, I thought and I didn't need any extra income ideas, so that's what I did. I got a degree in Electrical Engineering in record time. I figured to just work 8 to 5 and that's it. Extra income ideas came and went. I paid them no attention. There was no need for me to work from home and build a business. I was safe."

Peter took advantage of the pause in the story to ask, "It says in your letter that you are unemployable. How do you figure that with a degree in engineering? Don't you have any extra income ideas?"

"More bad advice, son. Everyone told me I should get a good job. Got me one with the Federal Government, but after 5 years of bureaucracy, I couldn't stand it any more and I never thought of work from home as an option. That was for 'poor people', losers that couldn't make a living in 40 hours a week so I got another good job with a large, good corporation. Again, extra income ideas came and I let them flow through. Fifteen years later, I was told I was done. As it turns out, the products we were turning out can be made for 2% of the cost by children in India and China. I'm almost 50 and my training is outdated. Nobody wants a middle aged engineer with old ideas."

Mr. Rico paused again as if his thoughts had drifted elsewhere.

Peter cleared his throat and said, "You mention in your letter asking for clemency that you had investments. What happened to them?"

Mr. Rico sighed heavily. There was anger in his voice. "I invested heavily in energy stocks. What could be a safer bet? Then, it was found out that the boys in the ivory tower were lying, stealing and setting the investors up for ruin. And they did."

There was another pause and then, with more anger in his voice, Mr. Rico added, "I had extra income ideas for old age. I had some so-called solid investments. They did alright until the latest financial debacle. That's what happens when people making indecent incomes on Wall Street and other similar places make shady deals to max out their bonuses and pensions."

The tone of the voice lowered as he sadly added, "I guess they had their own extra income ideas. People like me paid for them."

He paused for a moment before adding, "Bad advice, son, bad advice. The world is full of bad advice. I should have put my prejudices aside and built something that allowed me to work from home. Nobody can steal that from you."

Peter liked this man, his honesty and clear thinking. "It's never too late, Sir.."

Mr. Rico's tone seemed to brighten a bit. "What do you mean?"

"I have spoken to many people like you who have changed things around for themselves. They tell me that:

Fishing For the Right Business to Start Home Business Lessons From Fly Fishing in Iceland

In the remote wilderness and open space - I got amazing clarity and insight into deciding to start, starting and succeeding with a home based business.

When you are in such a remote place (we drove 3 hours North of Reykjavik to this river) you soon leave the pace and hustle of modern city living behind. Staying in a farmhouse right by the river and going out to fish the wild salmon (it's catch and release so no fish were harmed) provided me with three unique experiences.
