Three Secrets. As an attorney with more than a decade of experience advising small business owners, I will share with you three secrets to keeping the money.

1. Do not be a sole proprietor. Many attorneys joke that "sole proprietor" is a Latin phrase meaning "unlimited personal liability." The only business form worse than sole proprietor is a general partnership--in which each partner is personally liable for the other partner's negligence.

2. Choose to be an S corporation. S corporations are taxed in a way that is closer to partnership taxation than to corporate taxation. Traditionally, this has been the entity of choice for people in passive income businesses such as network or affiliate marketing. S corporation owners must take a "reasonable salary" that is subject to self-employment tax, but S corporation distributions beyond that salary are not subject to self-employment tax.

3.... Or choose to be an active/passive limited liability company (LLC). Under proposed regulations, network and affiliate marketing LLCs can avoid self-employment taxes on a vast majority of their revenue if they have two owners, at least one of whom spends less than 500 hours per year on the business and has no management rights. Because there is no "reasonable salary" expectation built into LLCs' partnership taxation, this may be a more attractive option for many network or affiliate marketers.

Corporations and LLCs each bring limited liability, presuming you follow a few corporate formalities. The first step is to discuss which structure works best with your accountant and your attorney. Once both understand your goals, they can help you form and maintain your entity of choice.

Two Examples. My law practice is organized as a C corporation, which allows me to deduct fringe benefits that I would not otherwise be able to deduct. Because my corporation's revenue is derived from my personal services, I need the corporation to pay me a reasonable salary, for which I pay the equivalent of self-employment tax. If I had associates producing substantial income for me while was at home playing with my children, an S corporation might be a better choice-because the revenue from the associates' work would be passive income, which I could distribute to myself without paying self-employment tax.

By contrast, my affiliate marketing income is almost entirely passive. Once I have introduced a business owner to the concept of earning a commission on its own credit card processing fees, I actually do earn revenue while at home playing with my children. Because this income is almost entirely passive, I am organizing my affiliate marketing entity as an LLC with 5 percent active and 95 passive ownership interests-meaning that I do not pay self-employment taxes on 95 percent of the income. That structure alone keeps 14 percent of my total revenue in my pocket that otherwise would go to Uncle Sam.

With thought and planning, you can enjoy more of your hard-won revenue streams while keeping your home safe from creditors. As always, you should consult your own attorney and accountant for advice about what best works for you.

When You Want A Little Extra Cash - What Makes Money Quickly (Income Tips That Always Work For Me)

Of course, the first thing to ask yourself is why this happens to you? Are you living a little luxuriously? No one wants to cut their expenses but if you are finding month after month that you run short of cash in the fourth week after receiving your salary or pay check, then you are going to have to get tough with yourself!

Why? Money isn't magic! Money is just numbers. If you constantly run short of cash you are over spending on your income. It doesn't matter whether you like to face this or not, it's a fact, it won't go away, and you do need to take action now!

You won't find any value in earning extra cash until you tighten your budget and let go a few expenses you just don't require. Cappuccinos cost you calories and dollars! They are your single biggest small waste of resources! They suck because they drain your energy and leave you hating your waist line! Get rid of these kind of wasteful habits and replace coffee with bottled mineral water: think of the buzz you'll get from being healthy and the sensation you'll cause around you!

Get into good diet and exercise habits and consider your travel costs: if your workplace is in the town where you live, get a bicycle! You don't have to sell your gas guzzling motor vehicle but at least get fit and save gas travelling to work. At the end of the month put the dollars you have saved into a savings account that is just a little difficult to break into - say a thirty day account.

How else can you save? Can you have your hair done a little less often? Golf less frequently? Vacation nearer home this year? Tell your friends you are saving for something big and leave them guessing: they'll be intrigued! I tell you, you have to get inside your lifestyle like this first and cut the dross, smarten up, get fit, and feel like a million dollars with maximum oxygen buzzing round inside you before ever you create an extra cash income stream, OK?

Otherwise this is what happens (and you know it's true!) - you make more money and buy yourself those items you've wanted for years. Turns out there's a lot you've always wanted so before long you need extra extra cash and then more! There is no limit to how much you can spend: so limit yourself before you give yourself the chance. Come on, you know it makes sense or you wouldn't even be reading this!

So first of all, get TOUGH on yourself. Get fit, eat only natural wholesome foods and drink a LOT of water every day. Zero donuts. Zero. I mean it! Don't EVER let even one pastry anywhere near your lips, OK! You'll only have to run 40 miles to burn that one donut, and I ask you, do you really want to run that far? For one donut?

You get my point. Smarten up. Now why do you want extra cash? Doesn't your pay check stretch far enough? So why did you take the job on in the first place? Kind of dumb thinking? Or else your appetite has grown since you started working there? Or you just had so many more kids? Guess what, your kids can earn their own extra cash! You know what? They'll do better than you because they have energy you lack, and true motivation. If you are still working for someone else I'd say your motivation level in life is around zero.

OK, so you started in reading this hoping for tips to make extra cash and so far you've had zero tips, right? I did say these tips work for me: I'm just telling you straight what works for me! I really do apologize if you got offended there when I said dumb, but you know, you have to get real TOUGH on yourself if you want the kind of life where you seriously never need to even think about extra cash!

Now check in on this for a moment: think about your boss, your manager, your supervisor - do they ever need extra cash? They may be reading this right now! You really suppose they pay off their credit cards every month and save and invest and do smart things with all the cash they have left over out of their salary every month? I mean, what car do they drive? Where do they shop for clothes? Where do they vacation? Do they live in a smart part of town?

Would you like their job, and the salary with it? Would you like their monthly expenses? No matter how much people earn, they always outspend their income - every single month! Just like you do! But the more hours you work in a week, the less time and energy you have to earn extra cash! And to admit you have to earn extra cash, that's not shouting SUCCESS! Is It? So what gives?

My top tip is this: forget extra cash and set yourself a grand long term goal for the near future which is to start your own smart business and set your own salary doing something you love and believe in. Offer real value and top customer service. Believe in yourself - you know you can. You can achieve whatever you set yourself to. Suddenly, the first time for years, you feel a little motivation coursing through your veins! So what can you do in business? Team up with a partner you know and trust. Get advice but go with your gut instinct. Plan ahead and be unafraid. If you need to move out of town then go.

You don't need me to list 101 business ideas: you already know what you love. You really really don't need any extra cash either! You need purpose, motivation, encouragement, a strong plan, daring, and courage to see this through. You need to start to take over your own life, starting with your salary! After all, the hours you put in at work, they are YOUR hours. The hours that make up your life. Don't give them away: trade them within your own business enterprise for the salary you set yourself.

One more vital tip here. You must not trade in your job for a similar set up. So many folk start a business venture and end up working too many hours every day and going broke. You need to start a real business with real financing and a strong plan: you need to outsource and delegate and get in the people you require. You must set targets and stick to them. You must keep control at every level all the time. Just like you first learnt to take control of your expenses earlier, you with me?

The purpose of drawing the reins in over a little task like keeping your expenditure within the limits of your income every month and gradually cutting your wasteful spending to allow you to save regularly, the purpose is that if you are faithful in little, you can truly be faithful in much. And the astonishing result is that as soon as you fire up your motivation to follow your dream and run your own life then you have such a buzz you don't go shopping! You don't strive to fill your home and your life with meaningless clutter because now your life is full of strong purpose: it's meaningful! What is the total cost of my investment?

You want to find out here how much you startup expenses will be. Remember we already talked about startup kits and startup expenses. You have to expect investing some money when beginning a business.

Find out the cost to join there program. Find out about other expenses too, like supplies, equipment, newspaper ads, etc.

I want to say this again, you should expect to spend some money. They company should be able to tell you exactly how much you should spend. They should also tell you when you will make money.

How to Stay Focused When Working From Home

I was studying for a Computer Science degree and I got bored! I dropped out. I decided to leave. I wanted to earn some money. I gave up the degree course.

I didn't know what I wanted to do. I just knew I didn't want to go to college anymore.

I visited the job centre for a few days. There was a job in the banking area of London. Right in the city of London. The job was for a Pensions Clerk.

�3,600 annual salary plus free lunches. That's equivalent to �8,500 in today's world if we use 3% inflation - that's is less than the minimum wage!

But I was happy and I got free lunches. I was offered the job.

I took it.

I also had a couple of little part-time jobs at weekends and evening collecting football pools money and valeting cars.

I certainly wasn't afraid of working hard. I enjoyed the extra money.

Within a few months I joined the IT department of the same London company and my salary almost doubled overnight.

I moved around a few companies and ended up having a great career in IT.

Then about three years ago I started my own on-line business while working full time. I worked long hours for the company I was working for and evenings and weekends on my own on-line business.

There was a lot of downsizing and redundancies and I wanted something to 'keep me going' if I were ever made redundant.

I survived the cutbacks numerous times.

I continued to work hard at my full-time role and my on-line business.

So for 29 years, I worked for a company...for someone else.

Then four months ago, I had the option to take voluntary redundancy.

I took it and suddenly I'm working for myself.

No boss. No objectives. No staff to manage. NO MONTHLY SALARY!

That's pretty scary.

I'm now on my own.

I make all the decisions.

I decide when to work and what to work on.

Nowadays, I have 4 major activities that I perform most working days:

1. Content creation - blog posts, videos, new products, tweaking my own blogs

2. Marketing - article directory, blog carnival, RSS, directory submissions, blog and forum commenting, affiliate marketing, social bookmarking, Tweeting

3. Clients - working and mentoring with my clients on their sites

4. Learning - reading other blog posts, completing the next phase of a course I am doing

Most days, it takes me 15 seconds to get to work. I just walk from the bedroom to the home office.

Turn on the pc and while it is booting up, I just check what I have planned to do today on my activity list.

Then I check my emails and respond to any that need responding to.

Check my direct tweets and reply to any that need replying to.

Check my blog traffic stats to see if I am on target with increasing by 10% month on month.

I am a member of a couple of membership forums and I go in and see what people are discussing and if I can add any value to the discussions taking place.

That takes, on average, an hour.

Then it's coffee time.

Then I look at my plan to see what I have planned for the day.

I have a weekly plan and the weekly plan is broken down into daily tasks based upon the 4 activities I mention above.

And each daily task is broken down into 60-minute chunks.

And at the end of each week, I plan out the next week's daily plan and activities.

By having a daily plan and planning ahead, it helps me focus.
