Sales Skills Needed for Your Successful Home Based Business

First of all we need to define sales skills, and remove the negative stereotypes which surround the typical "salesman."� Ask anyone who has�not engaged in a sales career, and often their perception of the sales trade is exactly opposite of that of a successful salesperson.

As you pursue your home based business, you'll want� to consistently pay attention to the following.

A. Being pushy and aggressive does not sell. It turns people off�and often makes them defensive. Being courtesly assertive and persistent is what your aiming for. This is a skill which anyone can better at. Think of the last major purchase you made where the sales process was seamless. I would suspect your needs or desires were identified, and the salesperson simply provided you a solution which you purchased. Fact is, most home based businesses offer a credible product or service.

B. The expression you have 2 ears �and 1 mouth, because you need to listen twice as much as you speak, is key to selling successfully in any home based business. People will tell you what you want if you simply ask directive questions and listen. Avoid trying to give too much information, it will usually confuse most people, and they will not be able to make an educated decision. The great thing about home based businesses is most people who are considering are usually serious about starting something. Identify first what they want, and then and only then, can the�decision if your home based business suits their needs. I can't stress this point enough. The mistake most salespeople make is talking too much, and talking past the close.

C. Let's identify the sales process. On a sheet of paper draw a line. On the far left write "warm-up". In the middle of the line write presentation, and at the far right put in "close". On top of the presentation draw in several arrows pointing to the line and label trial closes. Let's discuss. When you are first introduced to your prospect usually via telephone you want to form a connection and establish rapport (warm-up). Remember, people will purchase your home based business opportunity if they feel comfortable with you. Talk about their past work experiences, their family, goals etc. You'll know when you've established rapport, and then its time to begin your presentation of your home based business. The trial closes are merely questions or comments you ask in order to provide feedback, and hopefully tacit consent or buy in to your home based business. Don't make the mistake of speeding through your business providing endless details. You need to get feedback from your prospect. Think of trial closes as mini closes with a cumulative effect. The more favorable response and interaction you receive during your presentation, the easier the actual close will be. Think of trial closes as the process we all go through before we buy a pair of shoes. We try them on, walk down the aisle, view in the floor mirror from different angles. These are all trial closes which allow you to comfortably purchase the shoes and leave the store. Afterall, most people know their shoe size, but I'm willing to guess in the history of man, no one has ever walked in a store and bought a pair of shoes without going through that ritual.

D. Whether the home based business you are discussing is inexpensive ( a few hundred dollars) or high end ( thousands of dollars), it really isn't important. If your prospect is qualified and properly informed, the decision process is the same. If your presentation was interactive, and tacit consent through trial closes was given, then simply assume he/she will join.

Think of a traffic light between your presentation and the close. Once your presentation is complete, the traffic light will be red, green or yellow. It may be your prospect is not interested in your home based business. That's a "red" light, and it happens, don't beat yourself up. Occasionally the light is "green." Move quickly to the close and discuss financial arrangements. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done. Most prospects will see a "yellow" light. There's a degree of caution, and they could stop or proceed forward. Usually they see "yellow" because they need a little more information or direction. Success is made in home based businesses by people who can help those "yellow" viewers see "green."

The thing is because they trust me and have every faith in what I say and do, when they read a sales letter that makes a promise - then indeed that promise is fulfilled. In actually fact, more to the point, they will receive more than they expected - they will receive service beyond the call of duty.

So it goes without saying that the level of relationship and trust that has been built is high. They will purchase almost everything that I promote.

So many webmasters online are only interested in getting paid. They send out sales letter after sales letter, knowing that some people will buy. They have no desire to neither communicate with their subscribers nor build a relationship. However, if they did, their sales levels would increase as would their credibility.

Don't fall into that trap. If you want your subscribers to make repeat purchases from you it is important that you focus on building relationships.

When you are promoting your products and services it is vitally important that you give great value and quality. In actually fact you should create your products and sell them so that it is always worth more than you sell it for. This way your customers will continue to look out for your products and they will continue to trust you.

Because once they have faith in you and the products you offer they will continue to buy from you so long as your retain the high quality. So before you promote your next product you need to ask yourself a question, 'Is this product of high quality and value?' If the answer is yes then you will continue to create buyers.

Ecommerce and PayPal sites go hand in hand today with having an online retail website. You must accept credit or debit cards as cash cannot be transmitted and most people do not use money orders. The ability to accept credit cards by a retailer has been proven over and over to add to your total sales volume. People do not carry a lot of cash anymore and in fact will overspend if they can simply use a card. Being able to postpone the actual payment instead of paying cash gives consumers the greater incentive to purchase impulse items that they normally would not buy.

The charge card fees charged by some of the card companies can be pretty stiff for small retailers but all in all those sales would not have been made at all if it were not for the charge cards. For the first two years of our web site presence we did not have an online checkout cart and took only checks and money orders as payment. Although we did well in sales, quite often and much more than we liked, an order was canceled when the buyer could not use their credit cards. PayPal was not yet offering checkout carts outside of eBay so we were somewhat limited as to whom we could partner with in a checkout cart. We did locate a company in Connecticut who not only had a online cart feature but also offered us the ability to use a hand held scanner to make credit card sales at our craft shows. Sales more than doubled when we started accepting the major cards. We did add the PayPal checkout cart to our website when it became available which in turn added even more sales from eBay users.

Some care must be taken however before you sign on the dotted line to assure the fees that are being charged are competitive. The charge card portal fees as they are called, range greatly between different companies. Some charge by the transaction, some charge by the total monthly sales volume and so on. Even a quarter of one percent difference can add up to a substantial amount of money that you will have to pay each month for the service. Get the lowest fees you can find.

You will find that the shopper who would have bought perhaps only one item if it was a cash sale, will purchase two, three or more items when they can be placed on a credit card. The "I'll pay it later" mind set causes them to overspend and of course this works very well for the retailer. Being able to place the major card's logos on your website pages showing you accept credit cards, lends some additional credibility to your web store and shows you are here to stay and are a serious business person.

How To Get Paid For Articles Big Time

There are basically two ways to get paid for articles. One is to write for someone else on contract where they pay you per article, the other is when you write to generate a profit for yourself.

This article is about generating sales with articles. Compared to article marketing, there isn't very much money to be made selling articles to others.

Article marketing is a well established method of making money online. It is a solid, time tested way to make some serious coin...if you do it right.

Yes, despite all the courses you would have bought that tell you otherwise, it is possible to write lots of articles and not make any money.

The way to make money is to write keyword focused articles related to a product that is a proven seller. If you have a product no one wants or if you can't reach your potential buyers because you didn't choose the right keywords, you won't be making any money.

Most anyone will be able to make some money by distributing keyword focused articles through article directories. It's a cheap, easy to do method of promotion that works really well.

However, if you want to make the big money you need a bit more of a strategy.

One approach to making lots of money is to write lots of articles. That approach works, no doubt.

Another approach is to write a bunch of articles promoting several niches. This way you get multiple streams of automated income. That sounds good.

But both of the above approaches to making big money with articles involve a lot of work and the conversion rate can be quite low.

You can improve the conversion to sales with better copy in the signature box, a more needs focused article and more targeted distribution online. All of these factors contribute to how much money you make from the same article.

However, none of these methods compares to the power of a "value funnel".

What's a value funnel?

It's a technique taken from a common sales technique called "qualifying". Every good salesperson "qualifies" a prospect before they actually start the presentation. This way they know what to talk about in their presentation. When done properly, a good salesperson will rarely lose a sale.
Some sales trainers have taken the concept of qualifying a prospect another step and oriented the whole sales process into what they call a "sales funnel".

A sales funnel is the process of giving and taking information with a prospect until the prospect is able to focus in on the need that the salesperson can solve. If the prospect is clear on what they need and the salesperson has a great way to solve the problem, there is a natural sale. "Closing the sale" becomes effortless and much more rewarding for both the prospect and the salesperson.

In writing articles there is no opportunity to get feedback from the "prospect". So, instead of a "qualifying" process, a writer has to use a "value funnel".

A value funnel provides valuable information on a certain topic. At the end of the informative article there is an opportunity to "take the next step" and read the next article that relates to the need addressed in the first article.

As the reader moves from article to article they "qualify" themselves. If they are not a good candidate for the solution offered at the end of the series of articles they will click away and move on to something else. If they are really a potential customer they will click on to the next article.

When they click to read the next, related article they are in a more "committed" state of mind. They are more focused on their need and are looking for a solution.

When the reader is looking for a solution to their problem and they are presented with the opportunity to click on a link that can potentially help them, there is a real opportunity for a sale.

This is a "qualified" buyer.

The way to get paid for articles big time is to write a short series of related articles that lead to the ability to click on an affiliate link. When they click on the affiliate link, they will encounter a sales page that solves the exact problem they wanted to solve.

This is the way to get paid for articles big time. You will get a far higher "conversion to sale" or "closing rate" than any other method because you are addressing the real need of a prospect. First you provide value and help them with a more general (but still a very keyword focused) article. Second you give them more specific information with another article.
