How Secure Is Your Job? What Would You Do If It, Along With All the Benefits, Was Gone in 30 Days?

My immediate supervisor looked across the table at me and said, "You are laid off as of today and your pay and benefits will stop on December 31st. Please deliver all company files and property to the local office in Vancouver within the next 24 hours".

This event was totally unexpected. My sales numbers were good, in fact, they were very good. I had actually set some recent sales records within the company that had not previously been achieved by anyone.

Why did this happen? Well, as you know, in the corporate world people are numbers and stats on a computer printout in some office somewhere. When corporate decides to downsize because of a stressed economy there is no human consideration given. Our country had just experienced "911" and there was a lot of panic going on at the time. The particular company I worked for depended heavily upon the manufacturing sector primarily in the States of Washington & Oregon. Many of these companies had themselves begun to downsize and, as a result, were gradually becoming less and less dependent upon the services of the company I was working for. It was a classic example of the "domino effect".

My first reaction was a total lack of feeling -- as if what had just happened was not for real. As I made the 100 mile drive toward home that evening it began to hit me that I was unemployed. It also began to hit me that I was in my late 50's and the prospects for finding another job as good as the one I had just lost were slim and probably next to none.

Thank God over the previous few years, since 1996, I had been playing around on the internet to try to learn how to make money with my computer. There were some successes, but there were also even more times in which I spent more money than I made. I went on to a couple of other sales jobs up until December, 2007, none of which compared with the job I had lost. As of December, 2007, I was laid off again and knew, this time around, I had no further desire to go back into the corporate work force.

It was at this juncture that I applied what I had learned about the internet and began making a full-time living from my own internet businesses. Currently I am earning more money than at any time in my life WITHOUT leaving home using nothing but my computer and my telephone. I am also teaching others to do the same.

Fraudulent Work at Home Offers

I urge you to be very skeptical about a few 'occupations' that promise a good salary and actually have no intention of paying you. Take the stuffing envelopes from home offer. You only have to pay for the list and then they provide the envelopes for you to stuff. Except that after you have paid for the list, they don't pay you for your services.

Another offer is to make hand crafted beaded jewelry and they promise to buy each item from you that you have pain-stakenly worked on only to have your piece of jewelry rejected for some lame reason. They will tell you the earrings don't match exactly, or the necklace is the wrong length.

Then there is the mystery shopper offer that is going to pay you to go out and report back on a specific industry. Of course, you have to pay first for the meal or the purchase or the service and you are promised to be reimbursed once you submit your mystery shopper report. You can not actually believe that somebody is going to pay you to shop. Not saying that there is no such thing as a mystery shopper, just most of the time they are employed by the company directly.

Then here is the one that blows my mind the most. Get paid to take surveys. Well, you can actually earn money this way however it isn't quick money by any stretch of the imagination. And even though you may be asked your opinion on a product, but you have to subscribe to at least three of their advertisers ads and join or order or subscribe or do something that equates to money out of your pocket. I sat down one day and probably filled out 30-35 surveys, each one paying anywhere from $6 up to $15. In that one day I earned $232, however I never received a cent. I would get paid only if I met their requirements for subscribing or joining or opting in, so up front, don't mess with this one, trust me!

A Day in the Life of a Working From Home or Office Worker

Firstly, making money online by working from home, you don't have to leave the house and get caught in the rush hour traffic as all the other people are making their way to work at about the same time as you.

Working from home, you answer to nobody, you decide when you work because the amount of work you put in determines how successful you are. It's a lot easier to work because you want to work, to make the money, as opposed to feeling like you have to.

I realized it wasn't because I had been misguided or because I had purchased a ton of junk ebooks that didn't teach mean anything. No, it was quite the opposite. Walking with the Donkey

An old man and a younger man are walking with a donkey. They get near a town and they both are strolling with their donkey. School children passed them, giggling and laughing, and they said, "Look at these fools. They've a robust donkey with them and they're walking. At the least the old man might take a seat on the donkey."

Pleasing the Crowd

Listening to those youngsters the old man and the younger man decided, "What to do? Because people are laughing and soon we will be coming into the city, it might be better to do what they say." So the old man sat on the donkey and the younger guy followed.

Then they came close to yet another group of people that said, "Look! - The old man is seated on the donkey and the poor young man is walking. This is ridiculous! That old man can easily walk, but the boy should be allowed to sit on the donkey." So they changed places. The old man started walking and the young man was allowed to sit.

Satisfying Nobody

After that yet another group came and said, "Look at these fools. And this boy seems to be too arrogant. Maybe the old man is his dad or his teacher and he is walking, and he's sitting on the donkey - this is in opposition to all rules!" So what to do? They both made the decision which now there's only one possibility. That they each should take a seat on the donkey; so they both sat on the donkey.

Then other groups came and they said,"Look at these people, so violent! The poor donkey is almost dying - 2 people on 1 donkey. It might have been better if they toted the donkey on their shoulders."

So they once again discussed, and then there was the river and the bridge. They'd now nearly reached the boundary of the town, so they thought,"It is better to behave as men and women think in this village; or else they will think we're fools." So they found a bamboo; on their shoulders they put the bamboo and hung the donkey by his legs, tied it in the bamboo and carried him. The donkey attempted to rebel, as donkeys are they cannot be forced very easily. He attempted to break free because he is not a believer in society and what other people are saying. However the 2 men were too much and they forced him, so the donkey had to yield.

Losing Everything

Just on the bridge in the middle a crowd passed and they all gathered and they said,"Look, these fools! We have never seen such dummies - a donkey is to ride upon, not to carry on your shoulders. Have you gone mad?"

Listening to them - and a great crowd gathered - the donkey became restless, so restless that he jumped and fell from the bridge down into the river and died. Both men came down but the donkey was dead. (MessageFromMasters)

The moral of the story: "If you try to please everyone sooner or later you'll end up losing your ass".
