These 5 Things Are Needed to Do Business Online

This article is for those who are just getting started in Internet marketing and are unclear where to begin. I will list five essential components of any online business and why they are needed.

1) Hosting Company - You will need an "address on the web" or hosting company in order to get started with your online business. You will need to select a domain name or name for your website, then host it with a provider. GoDaddy.com is a place where you can accomplish both of these tasks. Another good hosting provider is HostGator.com

2) Website - I guess I am stating the obvious here. You can design your own website through free or low cost online services you can find on the Internet. These can be as easy as drag and drop, but usually you need to choose between templates only with these services. You could also purchase software to design a site like Expression Web or Dreamweaver. The most common web design tool is through Word Press. You could hire a designer through Craigslist, Elance.com, or RentaCoder.com. What you do will depend on your time and budget.

3) Payment Gateway - This will ensure that your customer's payments are secure. A common quality provider for this is Authorize.net. This will be linked to the merchant services provider and shopping cart listed below.

4) Merchant Services Provider - This is where payments are processed in order for you to receive payment for your product or service. They usually charge a small fee for their services (maybe 2 to 3 percent of the transaction) and have a monthly minimum (maybe $30-40). A provider I like is ChargeToday.com

5) Shopping Cart and Auto-responder- The shopping cart will allow you to have a web form where buyers can enter their information to complete a purchase. The shopping cart can link pages on your site if you have a squeeze or sales page. The auto-responder is used as an email service to deliver emails to build trust or sell a product. 1ShoppingCart is a service that acts as both a shopping cart and email responder. Aweber is another popular auto-responder service.
