Cash Flow - How To Increase Your Cashflow

Learning how to increase your cash flow is one of the hardest but most necessary skills a new business needs to master. Not having funds on hand to pay for things like marketing or advertising can be the death knell for your business, and you may not even hear it toll! There are many ways in which we can budget more effectively to ensure that our goals can be be, but they may require some thought and adjustments on your part as the business owner. Let's look at several ways to get this done!

Pricing

One of the easiest and most overlooked ways to increase cash flow is to take a look at your current pricing structures. What do you charge? Has this increased in the last several years? Would a 3-5% increase be in order? If you sell a fixed price product, have you investigated complimentary avenues of cash flow like affiliate sales or products that your customers may want or need? If you are selling an online business opp, are you also offering Web hosting as a reseller?

Schedule Purchases

Many times you may be tempted to purchase items for your business that you may need but not necessarily right now. Resist that temptation, and purchase them when you can actually implement them. It makes far more sense to have available cash on hand than to stockpile items for future use. (Think - a stock room full of office supplies.) Do you really need that system upgrade yet? Will you have the time to devote to an expensive new project right now? These are things to think about.

Ferret Out Unnecessary Expenses

Cancel subscriptions you're not reading, associations you're not participating in, and nay other fees and expenses that are sneaking in "under the radar." It's very easy to let these things pile up and many go unnoticed, particularly when they are on automated billing. This includes membership sites that you aren't really taking advantage of, no matter how cool they are. (If they were important to you, you'd be there daily!) Be diligent with this, and you'll save a lot more than you might think.

Check Out Telecom Expenses

These days, it's quite easy to have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to telecommunications equipment. In other words, a lot of redundancy.... Take a cold, hard look at your phone plans, data plans, land lines, computer systems and Internet access. You may very well be able to realize a significant savings by trimming what you can't possibly use. After all, how many phones can one use at a time? Plus, services like Skype and GoToMeeting/GoToWebinar can drastically cut down on many telecom and travel expenses.

Learning how to how to increase your cash flow is not rocket science but rather more like detective work. Set about finding what you can trim, and you'll soon find more cash on hand than you thought you might have!

The Working At Home Blues - The Downsides Of Ghostwriting

Working online, working for yourself, working at home - it's a dream life, let me tell ya! I slurp coffee all day in my pajamas, and whenever I want to I can go for a walk, play with my daughter or call it a day!

Sure, it's a dream, but there are some downsides to it. You might want to know about these and start preparing for them before you start your ghostwriting career.

The Sitting On Your Butt Poundage

This isn't a problem really for me; I've got the metabolism of an 8-year-old. But for most folks I know, your first few months as a work at home ghostwriter means 25 or more pounds added to your frame. What a shock! I recommend breaking up your writing day with 15 minute high intensity training maybe?

The Evil Red Eyes Of Doom

When a long day of writing is done, my eyes are red and bloodshot like I've been up all night doing whiskey shots. My eyes hurt, and even worse, my hands are numb from all that typing. I still don't know what to do about this, but little breaks help. That, and maybe planning out your week better so you don't have to do everything in one day.

General Laziness And Procrastination

All of us are procrastinators. Everybody's lazy. The path of least resistance is the one most often taken. My clients think I'm a hardcore ghostwriter with a million-dollar work ethic, all because I never tell them how I'm up until dawn finishing their jobs! The only thing I can recommend here is to break up your jobs into chunks, and do a chunk of each one each day. And now I'm going to start following my own advice!

The Constant Temptation To Slack

There's nothing quite as liberating as saying to yourself, "I don't feel like working today... I think I won't!" Try saying that to your boss at the office. I guess it would be like that movie "Office Space." All I can say about this is that once a week or thereabouts, you should act completely irresponsibly and chuck your day's work just for the heck of it. This gives you the needed release, and then the next day you can buckle down.

Small Children, Friends On Skype, Phone Calls And Other Distractions

My little daughter is my favorite distraction. I can't even pretend to be mad when she comes in and distracts me. There are friends contacting me on Skype, emails coming in, phone calls... It's tough to block all of that out and just focus. And it's not fun! I reward myself with a small break every hour. I go and tickle my daughter, listen to some music, write back to emails or do anything else to break things up a little. Think of distractions as much needed breaks!

So, in the end - yes, it's wonderful to work at home. No boss, no schedule, no rules, no dress code. But your career as a ghostwriter is beset with obstacles. Becoming a writer is easy - but so is falling prey to the above pitfalls!

At What Cost?

With the steady increase the question that begs to be asked, "When is actual work getting done?" When is technology a useful tool in your business arsenal, and when is it a distraction?

Growing with Technology (Without Losing Productivity)

Technology for technology sake is a waste. Determine if the technology makes sense for your particular business and for that particular employee. Here are a few ways to evaluate and apply information technology and if it's right for your business.

Instant messaging and texting. Weigh the pros and cons. On average it takes someone four minutes to get back on track after being distracted (up to 15 minutes if working on a detailed project). For many, the distractions that instant messaging and texting create are not worth the communication value.

Social media. Consider blocking social media sites from employees who do not need to access them in the course of business. Software is available to block sites based on a user's unique login.

Policy and best practices. Inform employees about your policy for email, texting, social media, etc. If you do not know your policy, it's time to create one.

Smart phones and mobile technology. If your employees utilize mobile devices, spend the extra time and money to make sure that they have quick, easy and problem free access to all of the information they need. Consider using mobile in new ways such as accepting credit cards, obtaining customer signatures, providing proofs, etc.

Video. Consider utilizing web video for marketing, training or product instruction. A short video has a much higher comprehension rate than written text. Enlist the help of a talented employee. On the flip side, make sure your employees know your policy for watching web video on sites like YouTube.

Optimum Productivity can help develop policy and train technology best practices to your staff. When used efficiently, technology can save hours of wasted time each week allowing you to get more done with existing staff. email [mailto:info@optimumproductivity.com]info@optimumproductivity.com or visit [http://www.optimumproductivity.com]www.OptimumProductivity.com for more information and to receive a free productivity report.

Developing Your Business Presence

This may come as a surprise, having over the past two years been bombarded with negativity and talk of a recession all over the globe, to realize that there is no recession on the Net. It may be something that you did not factor in to your marketing. Think about it. Go on Skype and see how many are actually using it at the same time as you are using it. Go on again tomorrow and see a similar number, which is millions of users.

They are all consumers and only a fraction of the world's population that use the internet. They eat, drink, use motor cars, use airlines, wear clothing, look for entertainment and search for a host of other products and activities as part of their normal daily, weekly requirements. Do they know about you? Do they know about your business? Are they searching for something you have and do not know you have it?

Let us establish some basics. Are you in business? Are you in the business of making money? Are you making money? These are critical questions and need to be clearly answered by you. It does not matter to the rest of the world but it does matter to you to know what kind of business you are engaged in and for you to know if you are you doing the right things to make that business work. It may sound over-simplified but sometimes we are so busy being busy that we are not being busy enough at the simple things that ought to be commanding our attention.

It is said it is more important to work smart than to work hard. It is particularly important in the world of marketing, not matter what the product or service. Are you trying to attract the attention of would-be customers and prospects? Are you trying to sell them some of your products or services? How do you get their attention? What methods are you using? Is it working? If you, like many thousands, are endeavoring to compete with the real "big hitters" in getting attention do not feel that you are alone. Just pause and ask yourself, "What is working?" If, as we have all experienced, it is not working over a period and you are continuing to pump good money after bad, then shout, "Stop" and listen to the command.

A good definition of madness is repeating the same actions over and over again and expecting different results. Well, think of what you are doing and ask, "Am I getting the results I expect and require?" Now that we have looked at the problem, how do we go about addressing it?

Key steps in attracting an audience may be summarized as follows:

Getting Attention;
Developing Interest;
Stimulating Desire;
Call to Action.

These are simple steps and it is not necessary to cloud them with a lot of jargon or "Secrets" that one now sees peddled by gurus on the internet promising millions of dollars streaming into your PayPal or Internet Account while you sleep. Steer well away from these "Get Rich Quick" schemes. Success requires effort. If there is a "Secret" it is in establishing the processes that make good and productive use of your time as distinct from what we identified earlier, wasting your time on efforts that do not produce profits.

Getting Attention

Well you can walk naked down Wall Street; that should grab some attention but not likely to increase your profit margins or retain customer loyalty. Your aim is to attract customers. Get their attention so that they will see and notice the quality of your product. That is the first step. How do you get attention? Write about your product or service. Yes, write about it. Here are some suggestions that you can use to write and draw attention to you and your business and place it on the web in front of all of those individuals who spend so much of their time searching. Your article or content is in high demand by thousands of Search Engines and websites. They thrive and indeed exist on content. Be a supplier of good content and use the method to draw attention to you, to what you are promoting or selling, to its distinct quality and value. If you are selling soap the method of attracting their attention may have nothing whatsoever to do with soap or even like products. Getting attention is a separate and a focused exercise. It may for example show you relaxing on a beach, sitting on a pot of gold, wearing a fashionable branded garment or a host of other options. It may include you announcing an astonishing statistical fact or drawing attention to a world crisis. It is about attracting attention, nothing more, nothing less.

Developing Interest

The next step is holding that attention. You have succeeded in distracting a person from the myriad of things that compete for their attention and that is an achievement. Now what do you do with those critical moments in order to ensure you hold it so you can it. You need to stimulate their interest. Primarily the easiest and fastest way to do that is to appeal to their personal welfare. By that I mean the basic self-interest that is a core motivator in all of us. The immediate, "What is in it for me?" question that is lies subliminally in the mind and never sleeps.

Stimulating Desire

Now is your chance and opportunity to hold that primal interest so use it well. You can ask a probing question like, "Do you need extra cash?" "Do you have a health problem?" "Do feel stressed?" "Are you tired of worrying about your bills?" "Are you ready to retire?" "Are you tired of your job?" With this string placed out there in front you need to quickly reassure them that they are on the right page Signal that they can now resolve their problems. Fortune has blessed them on this lucky day that enabled them to open this door. Within is the answer to their problem. Here you place your link, which is presented as the open door to ease the problems facing them and even projecting that for the rest of their lives they need have no more worry. For example if you are offering good value, affordable Web Hosting Services, you insert the link to your website. It is important to remember here that this is not a process enabling one to dupe another. To be truly beneficial, truly lasting and sustainable it needs to be authentic. No quick fixes. They may produce short-term gain - but no loyalty, no long- term repeat customers. Here, we are talking authentic. Bona fide, honest, business. Here, at this point you appeal to an inner need and you provide a solution. Your product line and a link that takes you inside.

Call to Action

Capture that moment. Think about it well in advance. Make sure you can state in the simplest of terms what it is you are you are offering to develop their interest. Make doubly sure you are offering easy access to the solution to their problem; the satisfaction of their need; the gate-way to their dreams. You are the answer. You have the solution. You are their pathway to success, achievement, satisfaction. Get them now to act now. Provide the link to your services, your website and offer an immediate advantage to those who accept your invitation. This is the Call to Action. Be decisive...act now. Of key importance to you and your business is the fact that this process is FREE. There is a host of opportunity on the Net that provides free access to EzineArticles, Article Submission Directories and Websites inviting you to place your article. Use it and gain optimum advantage in getting your name, your product and your service in front of millions of readers. Tell them of the unique or special quality of your goods and services. Tell them about reliability and support that goes with it. Tell them of the value and the satisfaction they will experience. Tell them about you and your Company. They want to know. Make it worth their while learning about something that is to their advantage.

So you want to be noticed. Not because you are vain or want to be on the "X Factor" but because you are in business and you have products and services that you are offering to the market and you need to be turning over a return of investment. That is perfectly legitimate. Do not leave it to chance. Plan, clarify and take action. The President of the United States made a lot of play of "Yes We Can." Well, "We" is the collective. You and I make up the "We" in this world. Yes, you can. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Carpe Diem. Let not another sun set nor sun rise without you taking the decisive step to make a difference. You have that unique power, unique insight and capacity to do it your way. Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find. Knock and it shall be opened on to you.

4 Resources For Your Online Business You Shouldn't Be Without

If you are seeking extreme success as an online business owner, there are many online business applications, software, and resources for your online business that you should consider making an integral part of your toolkit. Here, I will highlight the top 4 tools every entrepreneur should have and use.

1. Digital Camera

A good quality digital camera is an essential part of any entrepreneur's toolkit. Whether you are selling products or selling yourself, it is true that a picture is worth a thousand words. Because you should be regularly blogging as well as publishing articles, you will want to have a camera handy to add photos to the copy you publish, as it enhances the impact. Your website and other online branding can also be enhanced by high quality imagery, so a decent digital camera (which can be had for under $100) can be an essential instrument to help you build your business.

2. Skype or Oovoo

In the more practical realm of business communication, Skype or Oovoo is a cost-effective and necessary business resource that makes it possible for you to be on the phone and online with your clients, team members, and prospective customers without running up a long distance phone bill or exceeding your minute allowance on your cell phone plan. Both Skype and Oovoo offer premium versions that allow for group video conferencing, but the free downloadable version of each program is typically enough to help any entrepreneur get launched without facing any high overhead costs.

3. Facebook and Twitter

Without social media marketing, you might as well not even open an online business, and with new functionality from Facebook for business pages as well as the partnership between Facebook and Bing, you need to create and maintain social media accounts. Because Twitter is not only an effective marketing application on its own but also can help you drive more fans to your Facebook page, I recommend getting started with both immediately. In fact, as soon as you secure your domain name, you should create your associated Twitter account and fan page.

4. Google Calendar

Staying organized continues to be one of the biggest challenges facing work at home entrepreneurs, and Google calendar is a free organization tool that is easy to use. You can plug in appointments, goals, daily tasks, and other events, and it will generate email reminders to you to help you stay on track and on task.

These four resources for your online business are certainly ones you should consider making an integral part of your toolkit.

Is the Distraction "Gremlin" Jeopardizing Your Business?

For all the 80's fans I'm sure you remembered the gremlins, the chaos and havoc they caused if they were not kept in check. You remembered what happens when the rules were not followed. Things got really out of hand. Well I want to mention the gremlin in your daily routine that can deter you from getting things done. A few people might say hey you work from home; you got time to get things done. You should be rocking out tons of content; you have all the time to do it and so on. This may be true to a certain extent but you could end up with no time at all if you allow for distractions aka gremlins interfere with your routine. Here are some of the pitfalls to be aware of when working at home.

1. The TV shows. It is very simple to get caught up in shows, soaps, and even the news. It is a time killing magnet. Yes you can learn a couple of things by watching but it will consume your time magically.

2. The telephone, skype, cell phone. They are great for calling your prospects but if you're spending most of your time chatting with friends then you're burning the time for valuable money making activities. Also beware how much time you spent with prospects especially if they are tire kickers.

3. Those wonderful house chores. They could be extremely distracting. I know they are for me. I get to one project then the next and so on. Next thing I know I did not do anything in building my business because I got caught up in house chores. Maybe one day I could afford a maid service. I better build my business first.

4. Emails. This is a biggy. You could literally spend a few hours looking at email and seeing what each one has to say. I look at my email account and there would be hundreds of emails. It takes time just to sort through them let alone read them all.

5. Videos. I enjoy videos and I get a lot of great ideas from them but you really don't want to get glued on watching every video. It is almost as bad as the TV when it comes to eating up your time.

So those are a few of the gremlins that can jeopardize your home base MLM business. Make sure that you are recognizing when they are happening and then take an immediate course of action to stop them. Create structure in your day with a routine that is easy to follow and can become a habit for you.

Take Actions, Follow Your Dreams and Become Your Own Boss

Have you ever wondered how you can change your current financial situation? I am sure you have, and you haven't done much about it because it required you to get out of your comfort zone and make some changes. Whatever your current situation is, whether you have a job and wish that you could change it or are looking for a way out of it so you can finally work for yourself, then you have to take some actions and act on your dreams.

Here are some of the things that you need to do to change your life for good and follow your dreams:

First, you have to set your goals and decide what you want out of your life. You have to determine what is important to you.

Do you want to have more time to enjoy your hobbies?

Do you want to travel more?

Or do you want to have more time so you can spend with your loved ones?

Whatever your reason is, you have to write it down and call it your "Vision Statement." In your "Vision Statement" write down where you want to be in five years, what are some of the things that you want to accomplish in five years? Is it money? Then, state exactly how much? Next, you have to ask yourself what it is that you are willing to give up to reach your goal. Is it time? Your favorite TV show? Time away from your friends?

Once you write your vision statement, you have to read it twice a day, every day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Soon your vision statement will become a newly created hobby. Remember that it takes 21 days to create a habit, whether it's bad or good.

The next thing you want to do is to turn off your TV. Don't lie to yourself, you know that you spend most of your evening watching a TV. Instead, read a book, educate yourself, listen to motivational and inspirational CDs and meditate on your vision.

Finally, you already know what you want out of your life. Look for a company which offers a service or a product that you love. Explore and research the company before you join. Read and watch people's testimonials about the company and look out for scams. Many companies offer free Webinars that you can watch on your computer and listen to how their top earners make their living. They provide tremendous information for one to learn.

When you are ready to join, it's time for you to look for your "leader." Who is it that you want to join? Who do you think will give you the proper feedback? Will he/she respond to your messages on time and provide valuable training? Will he/she take his time to listen to your problems and offer solutions?

Now, that you are ready to start, commit a certain period of time each day to your new business and get to work like there is no tomorrow. Do not be discouraged if the results don't come instantly. It takes time to build any type of business and if your business is on the Internet, then it takes time until you build your online presence.

Always remember that first you plant the seed, water it constantly, provide soil with a lot of nutrients, monitor it, give your love, admire it until it picks its little head out of the ground.

One day you'll remember that little seed which now became a big tree with a ton of fruit on it and its that time that you would be the proudest of all looking at your hard work and admire every fruit and the many leaves on your tree. Your business is no different from that little seed. Provide the hard work and you'll be able to pick the fruits later.

It sounds easier said than done but everything takes some type of effort, getting out of bed and eating breakfast take effort. It does not mean that we stay in bed forever. Sitting around and dreaming is not going to give you results. It is time you take some actions and follow your dreams!

Is Working Flexible Hours Right For You?

If you are experiencing job burnout, working flexible hours may be the solution. In this economy, having a job is difficult to come by. It is not unusual to stay in a job you don't love because there is no alternative. If quitting is not a valid option, perhaps a change in your daily schedule is for you. Studies show that people who have a healthy balance between work and home are more productive, less stressed, healthy and happier.

If you are a parent, striking a balance can be especially difficult as children don't clock in or out. They get sick and have needs that a 9 to 5 work schedule can't always accommodate. One suggestion is to research whether working flexible hours will help you find a better balance. Flexible working for parents can be a great way to be there for your kids and also your employer. To find out look online at the government website or talk to your employer.

It is important that you remember that your working flexible hours needs to be beneficial for your employer. Approaching your employer from the stand point of how your working flexible hours will be more productive and profitable will set you up for greater likelihood of it happening. Be patient. It may take time for your employer to be open to your working flexible hours and you may need to demonstrate an increased commitment to the company before they are willing cut you loose.

There are many type of flexible working for parents and you will need to find the best fit for both your employer and you. Here are a few types:

Working From Home: Telecommuting is a great way to have flexible working for working parents as it allows you to stay at home some days or hours per week. For this to be a success you need to have a designated work area at home and firm boundaries for when you can and cannot be interrupted while working. You will likely need a phone, fax and internet service. Sometimes your employer will pay for these. Skype is a great way to stay connected while outside of the office. Having a job in sales is well suited for this.

Compressed Hours: This is where you work the normal set hours per week but condense it into less days. For example, working ten hour shifts will get you the forty hours per week but allow you an extra day off per week.

Flex-time: If you can shift your work hours by either starting earlier or later. This allows you to be there for children after school, or if you are starting a new business it can give you time to focus on your new starter company after work but during regular work hours.

Sometimes changing your hours can be a better alternative to changing your job. If you find that you are burned out and uninspired. Look to find a better balance between work and home. Flexible working for parents can be especially beneficial.

Portability Is a Benefit Overlooked of an Internet Business - Gmail, Teamviewer, Skype, GoToMyPC

If you are establishing an Internet business be sure you keep it portable. You do not need to be tied down to your home PC. More tips about being portable.

There are a lot of benefits of an Internet business. I feel a major benefit, often overlooked, is portability. This is often not discovered by an Internet business proprietor until after they have been in business for some time. If the business is set up properly it can be accessed and operated from anywhere there is an Internet connection. The Internet has granted us to do this in a economic and efficient manner.

With the advent of technology; communications, meetings, presentations and monitoring can be done from anywhere. If you are looking to setup an Internet business keep this in mind because there will be a time when you may be on the road, for either personal or business vacation. There is no reason you are not able to just open up your shop from a hotel room or even an Internet cafe.

I will give you a rundown of what I use to make my business office portable. First, is a cell phone with a national plan. Your potential end users have to be able to make contact with you anytime. For email, I use Gmail. It has the best spam control and is up and functioning 99.99 percent of the time. You should not have to shell out for an email client as there are many free options around.

You will require a laptop in order to access the Internet. You just have to hookup to a wireless connection and you can be open for business. If you vacation anywhere in the US or even the world this should not be an issue. Some secured services you may have to pay for but in most cases you should be able to get connected for free of charge. I have at times driven to a motel parking lot, sat in my car and opened up shop. I tied into the wireless of the motel.

If some of you are uneasy about what is on your desktop at home you can also access this with various programs. Windows 7 is real convenient for a remote connection. I use GoToMyPc and am able to remotely access my desktop from wherever. On my laptop I can completely operate my desktop computer. You do not have to be left unconnected at anytime.

An added tool used for training is Teamviewer. There is a no cost version. With Teamviewer I am able to remotely access (with granted permission by remote user) anyone else's laptop. This includes transferring files between computers, via the Internet, and be able to take over the mouse of the other computer. Sometimes it is difficult to explain something over the phone and is much simpler to visually instruct my team members, on their computer, from my laptop. Teamviewer is a amazing tool and I highly recommend it.

If you are considering connecting to people by phone but want to save the minutes on your cell phone, get Skype. This tool is free and Skype to Skype calls are free. All you have to do is load the software on your computer and the person at the other end does the same. You can speak with each other, hands free, by using your microphone or headset. I must say this is so sweet and works worldwide. An extraordinary free service. Teamviewer in combination with Skype will sure to increase your productivity within your Internet business.

With the above tools I am completely portable and able to operate my Internet business from anywhere there is an Internet connection. I encourage you to get started on an Internet business, even if it is part time. As you are setting up keep in mind that you do want to be portable. This will not tie you down to your home computer or office. Both convenience and versatility are keys but do not get too wrapped up in your endeavours. Be sure you save time to enjoy your life.
