It was a balmy Friday morning in April on delightful Miami Beach. The hotel Fountainbleau ballroom #3 was packed wall to wall with salespeople wanting to learn from one of the greatest sales trainers in our industry on this, our third and last day of a three day seminar.

As hundreds of salespeople were drinking their morning cup of Joe, chatting amongst themselves and generally having a good time, the seminar trainer approached the stage virtually unnoticed. He stood there for one full minute, by my estimate, before he said in a loud commanding voice, "Listen up. I have an important announcement."

Some people thought that the speaker would be announcing the winners of door prizes being offered. Others thought that maybe he would announce that because it was Friday our session would be let out early today. It's hard to believe but, everyone in ballroom #3 was dead wrong.

Even though there were hundreds of people in the room, after the command to "Listen Up" was given with such great authority from the speaker on the stage, it was so quiet that you could almost hear the thoughts of the person seated next to you. Cemeteries at midnight were noisier than this Fountainebleau ballroom #3 on that fateful April morning.

In a powerful voice greater than before, the sales trainer barked at the audience, "This is my last seminar in Miami because you lazy people don't deserve my time and attention!" All of a sudden there was total pandemonium in ballroom #3.

The speaker continued, "Only a handful of people have done the assignments I gave all of you. That in itself makes me want to forget about Miami and teach my seminar in some other part of the country." The audience exploded yelling, "Mike, this can't be true, we need you". The speaker persisted with his criticism, "You know what really aggravates me about you salespeople here in Miami? You don't listen."

Four people had approached the speaker this morning before he took the stage. They all had the same ridiculous comment, "But Mike, our market is different, our customers are different. Your system just won't work here". Those remarks were echoed by many in the audience for the past two days. And those same comments were what ignited the fireworks from the podium this morning. In an effort to save time, let me get to the bottom line for you on why the seminar trainer was so upset------

It doesn't matter if you are selling your home based business product or service to mom and pop at the kitchen table in Iowa or you are selling to the CEO of a multi-national corporation in his office in New York. People are people and the process is the same for both. People always buy "stuff" with their "Feelings". That's why all customers everywhere are basically the same because everyone's "Feelings" are basically the same.

There is no question that if you still believe your customers are different than mine, stop whining and move on-----because they aren't. Go out and create the home based business success that will make your dreams come true. You can do it.

Insider Tip Five - How to Prepare Your Audio-Video For a Transcriptionist

Let's say you've conducted a webinar, teleseminar, call-in program, or conference of some sort, and you're now ready to have your audio or video transcribed into a document to post on your website. There is an important step that will help your transcriptionist tremendously when s/he transcribes your document for you. This step is to figure out how many people in total are speaking on the audio or video. If there are a lot of speakers or people asking questions, this may be a bit difficult for you to figure out. However, it's definitely worth your time. It's also worth it to preserve the sanity of your transcriptionist!

Once you've figured out how many people are speaking, you'll need to clearly identify each caller, spelling their first and last names correctly on a list in the order in which they're speaking. These people will need to be mentioned by name on the transcript of your webinar/teleseminar, and they will want their names spelled correctly in the document (who doesn't?!). This is a huge help to your transcriptionist, and it will prevent them from listing people simply as "male speaker" and "female speaker" which gets very confusing, especially in a group setting where there are multiple males and females speaking.

Another thing you will need to do, especially for video conferences, once you have the number of people speaking and the list of their names is to identify the person in some way. You can mention the color of their hair, the length of their hair, their lack of hair (if it's a guy), the color and type of their clothing, or possibly even their accent ("Australian accent" for instance). This will help your transcriptionist more than you could ever know, and the person speaking or asking a question can even be picked out with their back to the video camera (which is often the case with conference videos anyway).

By following Insider Tip #5, you will make a fast friend of your transcriptionist, which leads us right into Insider Tip #6.

Exposed! Why Hotel Meetings May Actually Hurt Your Business

Almost every network marketer I know has attended and brought prospects to a hotel meeting. I could see the look of "anger" in their eyes while writing that hotel meetings could actually be destructive to their business. I'm not saying you should discontinue the practice, but there is a business issue here that you absolutely must be prepared for, or your business could suffer.

Positioning:

Positioning is the art of showing your prospect that you are the leader. Prospects don't join your business because it has the best products, it's the fast growing, or it's debt free. They will join if they see you as the leader and you have a system where they can be successful too. People want to follow leaders, and it is up to you, especially in the beginning, to make sure you are in that position of authority.

What Happens?

As soon as you walk the prospect into that hotel meeting you lose your positioning. Immediately your prospect sees the quest speaker. That person, in the front of the room, positioned as the expert. Your prospect's attention now is now focused on the speaker. For the next 60 minutes or so, they don't even look at you. When your prospect has a question, the speaker addresses it. When other people have a question, the speaker addresses it. They are there as the expert.

So why are you surprised when, at the end of the meeting, your prospect is up there talking to the speaker not you? Who do you think the prospect wants to sign up with, you or the expert in the front of the room?

What Can You Do?

The best solution is to have your own presentation. A good marketer is not a salesperson, but a disseminator of information. Their focus should be giving the prospect all the necessary information so they can make a well qualified decision that is best for them. And of course we hope it's our favor too.

Acquire a conference recording line and record this information. Let the prospect here, from you, the information they are looking for. After the call you position yourself as the expert and address their questions.

Then, if you absolutely have to, when you take this person to the meeting, personally introduce this person to the speaker. Next introduce the speaker as a team member who will be reinforcing your presentation. Let your prospect know that you want them to see and hear from others in your company who, like yourself, are successful.

In Conclusion:

You are using this meeting to reinforce your position, not give it away! Make sure the ground work is set, the foundation firmly in place, and enjoy the event with your prospect. Remember this is all about the prospect, not you. You believe in the company, make sure you are washing your prospects fears and concerns away.
