Rural High Speed Internet Options - Don't Just Stick With Dial Up

When you are living out in a rural area, typically your high speed internet options are fairly limited. You might think you are stuck with dial up connections, but today there are many more options that you can consider using so that you can have faster internet speeds.

The most popular type of high speed internet for those in rural areas is satellite internet. This has as high initial cost as you need to purchase the dish and get someone to professionally install it to get you a good signal. These tend to have a higher monthly fee and data limits that you have to be careful with. You need to look for service plans that don't charge additional money if you go over the limit. The best ones will just slow down your speed as opposed to charging you more.

Some go for long range wifi. These are very tall antennas that you get installed to your home. These will pick up a wifi signal long range and are fairly reliable. You won't get as fast speeds as with other things but there are normally no limits on your data usage.

If you have a smart phone, you might be able to tether it to your computer. If you have 3g access in the rural area you live in, this is something you could use for your internet access. Most cell phone plans will limit you to about 5 gigabytes of data, but this is great compared to a dial up connection. It's not as fast as DSL or cable, but it's better than nothing.

There are also broadband cellular connections. These have very low initial cost and the monthly fees are competitive with most broadband plans. Look for plans without caps or contracts as these are starting to come out and become more popular. If you can't find one like this, you will be dealing with 5 gigabyte caps just like when tethering a phone.

Insider Tip Six - Finding the Right Transcriptionist

You wouldn't think it would be hard to find a good transcriptionist today with the economy the way it is and so many people desperately looking for work. However, there's a lot more to finding a transcriptionist than just Google-ing for one.

First of all, there's the matter of training and experience. Not every transcriptionist has had the right kind of training to be able to do your job correctly and quickly. At the very least, your transcriptionist should have a Bachelor's degree as well as some type of special training in English grammar and spelling or medical transcription training which teaches all of the above and more. Grammar is not taught well in many schools these days, so don't naturally assume your potential transcriptionist can spell, type, or even speak English correctly. Ask for a resume or CV, and check out the person's references.

Then there's the matter of speed. Not everyone types at the same speed or has the same error free result that you would like. I personally only type 75 corrected words per minute (CWPM removes any typos before the speed is calculated). That's not as fast as many transcriptionists, but I am also keenly aware of errors and typos and try to avoid them the very first time around if possible (hence, the slightly slower speed). Just because someone can hit the keys at 100 words per minute doesn't mean you'll be able to read what they typed when they're done! Whether or not they proofread their documents is also crucial and something to ask about when looking for a good transcriptionist.

Along with the typing speed, you need to consider turn around time. It costs more to get your documents in 12-24 hours. So perhaps you could plan ahead on your audio or video files and then allow your transcriptionist a little more time to work on them (like 2-3 days, or 4-6 days). That would be significantly cheaper for you.

The last consideration when choosing a transcriptionist is, are they agreeable or disagreeable? This is very important consideration because, believe you me, there are some very disagreeable transcriptionists out there! They can be some of the most grouchy and touchy people around. Part of the reason for that is transcription is an intense job if you do it full-time. Put yourself in their shoes. Sitting at a desk in some corner typing as fast as your sore fingers and carpal tunnel syndrome can go for 10 or 12 hours a day does not a happy person make. That's why I would suggest that you conduct some correspondence with your transcriptionist before hiring them and try to ferret out their personality traits, true feelings, and work ethic. It could save you a lot of trouble in the long run. One of the reasons I only do transcription part-time is because I want to continue to be a happy transcriptionist with smiling satisfied customers.

Tumble Dryer Or Spin Dryer, The Right One For You

Many people encounter a lot of problems while drying their clothes, especially if they reside in the regions where the sun does not show up. Besides, you do not want to go through the trouble of hanging clothes out in the sun. Even if you do so, the sun does not shine for all 365 days of the year. Most of the time, you will not be able to dry your clothes properly, such as in winter. With the advent of dryers, this problem was solved forever as they provide a convenient way to dry your cloths. Plus, they are so easy to use, thus you will not need typical instruction booklets like sewing machine manuals. However, just like repair sewing machines, you can easily fix your dryer with a pro.

Being a regular appliance in your household laundry and services, a dryer in home seems to be a necessity. However, the choice is completely yours to select from either spin dryers or tumble dryers. They are both designed in a way that you can utilize them either at home or in the laundry industry.

Some professionals believe that spin dryers are better than tumble dryers. The main reason is that tumble dryers consume more electricity because they use heat to dry clothes. The mechanism of drying in case of spin dryers, however, is totally different. They operate on centrifugal force which rotates the clothes at high speed. This helps them to get dried by the removal of water during spinning.

In case you are short of time, a tumble drier is a better option for you. Tumble driers take an edge from spin driers in the aspect of speed. You can dry up your cloths within a matter of few minutes using some types of tumble dryers. They are further thought to be eco-friendly because their running time is lesser than spin dryers. Lesser duration of operation means the carbon emissions in tumble dryers will be reduced to a great extent.

Among these two options, spin dryers will be a better option. The reason is the machine's cost effectiveness. It consumes less power and thus lesser electricity. You will get a lifetime of savings on your electricity bills by using the spin dryers. You may wish to consider the rotational speed of the dryer if you have decided to buy the spin dryer. The speed of this type of dryer ranges from 2500 to 3300 rotations per minute, and in dryer terms, that would indicate that this device is quite efficient from numerous aspects.

Both tumble and the spin dryers have their own advantages and disadvantages, but you can select the dryer that suits your requirements. If you don't have a lot of laundry to dry then spin dryer is the best option. But in case of too much laundry, you would want to save time then tumble dryers are more feasible. Simply prioritize and decide which one is friendlier to your pocket, or else you may spend more than you had allocated in your budget.
